You're welcome. One thing for sure is that there is not a shortage of supply shops for the home brewer in Oregon. It's somewhat of a religion the best I can figure.

I've made a couple of batches (with limited success) and while I can buy better micro-brews than what I ended up with, the process was fun and educational if nothing else.

In the now-defunct magazine from the late 1980's, Sinsimellia Tips circa 1989 or so, there was an article on making 'high-tech brew' using cannabis buds vs. hops.

It definitely was an acquired taste much like the God-awful berry-flavored beers favored by some of the micro-brews in the Pacific Northwest. There's just something wrong about blueberry beer but that may just be me.

YMMV

My bad man, but those damn chronic candys fucken blow! i grew up in LA and every damn liquor store carries those things. Now when i finally turned 18 and got a Med Card and started buying bud pops from the clubs, and weed'scream, and all kinda of edible stoney treats, now thats where its at, but i get what you mean with the flavor and all... haha

BTW - Sinsimellia Tips morphed into Growing Edge magazine out of Corvallis, Oregon. Still published by Tom Alexander who had the best 'grow store' around before the D.E.A. shut him down after "Operation Green Merchant" way back when.

Clackamas Coot, perhaps a youngin' wanted to separate from hydro for a minute to thoroughly study organic growing from the microbe colony and mycorrhizae all the way up to neem oil, who might have such an understanding and ability to answer some questions along the way? ;)

Dead serious about a career in botany, figure this humble weed is a good stepping stone. UPS will drop off an aerobic bacteria test kit today. Still chewing over which phase contrast/bright field microscope to go with... Nikon makes some good ones for $2,500+, well worth the price of admission if you want to obsess over what exactly the life in the tea looks like.

Sorry if I slipped on the Dirty Ol' Hippy, just realized the call wasn't made. :smoke: <--- you understand.

On the 'Organic Soil' thread(s), Microbeman has a microscope that he'll be selling for around $200.00 that is more than adequate.

The price is definitely right. Here's his web site.........

He and CT Guy definitely know their stuff. CT Guy has one of the best aerated compost brewers out there and they're only $140.00 - here

He also caries pure humic acid ($12.95 per lb. - cheap!), seaweed extract and other items.

Well worth your time & effort to check out their sites, IMHO

Started reading that last night and got a huge boner. Thanks for the brewer link, might find its way over to this neck of the woods in a hurry.

What's Concentrates in PDX like? Are the people there good for a talk about microbes and tea brewing?

I need some help understanding organic nutes, how to pre-mix some dirt and how composting works. Want to join the elite few who enjoy the relaxing comforts of simply adding de-chlorinated water and the occasional tea. :)

Also buying the book Teaming With Microbes will give you a good solid basis on soil biology and what takes place in an organic growing environment.

Organic growing is definitely the least expensive method of growing any plant even buying premium earthworm castings, organic coir or organic peat. You have one of the best suppliers on the West Coast over at Concentrates in SE Portland.

Where else are you going to find high-phosphorus bat guano @ $1.53 per lb or Canadian Glacial Rock Dust for $.52 per lb?

They're a farm supply store. There is one individual there, Naomi, who is very knowledgeable and helpful.

It's nothing fancy - just an old, old building with an office where you place and pay for your order and they load your products for you. Nice folks with an extensive line of products and animal feeds. Most of the products are organic - even the coconut coir as well as the specific peat moss that they carry.

Their Sunshine Organic Soil Mix (2.8 cf for $18.00 is a good place to start) - it's packed down in Woodburn, Oregon. Mix 2 parts of this mix with 1 part medium pumice (my personal preference over Perlite), and 1 part compost or earthworm castings.

The organic compost that they sell is made by and for Teufel Nursery out in Forest Grove. This is the same product that is packaged for Down-To-Earth. The price at Concentrates for 3 cf. bales of their compost is only $6.60 or $2.20 per cf. It's made from dairy and poultry manure, earthworm castings, bat guano and is PH adjusted with crushed oyster shells.

They sell a few brands of earthworm castings but the only one that I can recommend is the product from Yelms Wormfarms up in Yelm, Washington. They're one of the very few companies which has had their castings tested by the Soil Food Web and have the results of that testing available for you to review.

Wow, that's easy enough isn't it? I don't need a degree in watery chemistry and sub-atomic particle chelation for nutrient uptake? Haha. :D

I'll have to take you to lunch sometime and pick your brain for some more helpful tips. If you recall explaining to me the simplicity of your top secret cloning technique, thanks for that! Perfectly green and stout from cutting to transplant. :)

Speaking of cloning, I found a method on another cannabis grow site and the individual has a long thread about his growing method.

Basically it's this - let your rooted clone/plant grow up to the 8th or 9th internode. Then cut the plant above the 2nd internode which will force the plant to develop 4 equal 'main stems' and you end up with a beautiful clone from the original main shaft.

I've been trying it out with a couple of strains (Jack Herer and DOH) and I'm in Week 6 and I'm very impressed. The cuttings of the main shaft created some of the most beautiful clones that I've seen.

The best part is the even canopy that is created using this process. Bud sites are full and lush and I'm looking forward to see what the final yield will be.

Interesting if nothing else.
