Got my hands on some Chiang Mai Thai and will crack them soon. Not sure if I should use sup lighting or just put in GH. They have some herm's in them and not sure how light senative they are. If I don't use lights they will only get 2 ft tall. any thoughts on this.

I was recently in Chiang Mai .
Let me tell you any herb there was most likely grown over the border in Laos . Herb is hard to obtain in Chiang Mai . Ya bah or Speed pills dominate the local market .
Though I did see an Irish lad bust in the local paper yest . Kid was sellin weed on the Face Book ! Cops organised a sting for 1kg for 200 000 baht . About 5.5 K US WTF ??

I find it's best when growing out Thais to plant 4 or 5 times more seeds than you want harvested female plants . Some won't germinate, some will turn hermy, some will be male, a few might be runty and if you're lucky you will get to harvest 2 or 3 or 7 non-hermy females out of 20 or 30 seeds.
By halfway through flowering be prepared to cull hermies..it's heart breaking to chop down some or most of your remaining big plants you hoped were females.
I grow in the sub tropics and have plants outside in various stages of flowering all year round. I haven't grown Thais for ages, but these were all I grew for many years, my first grows were Thai. While you might get a few finish at two foot tall, many should be 5 ~ 14 feet tall if given the right conditions. Even when started in the late Fall ~ early Spring, many Thais will still get tall if the soil is right and they get direct sun most of the day.
You can start these seeds under natural light or you can add night lights for the first few months of growth.
If probably a good idea to grow these untested Thais and also some good local strains or from bought seeds if you can, that way you will have some variety and a better chance of getting a worthwhile harvest...cos who knows, these seeds could be anything from barely ok to fantastic. Let's hope you get one really outstanding female.

200,000 baht for a kg!? Must be on yah baa..i get it for 20,000
A guy I know was buying it in the 80's for US$100 for a kilo (Edit : My memory is vague on the price and I've added a few more details). this was for best quality commercial Thai ganja that was lightly compressed and not dried out, better than average potency with a smaller than average number of seeds that were small, brown/black in color and had good germination rates for bricked bud, the kilos were similar in size to a telephone book, the sides were straight cut.
To prepare for swallowing (to take it to another country where the wholesale price is 10, 15 or 20 times more) they used to break up the herb and then remove every single seed, stem, even the very tiny stems and leaves. Doing this would lose about 40% or 50% of the kg, this took hours per kilo for two people to do correctly but the smoke was stronger and tasted better, it also made compressing it back into "bullets" much better too, a little spray of alcohol before pressing helped the ganja stay in the shape of the mold without expanding later.
When smoking any tropical sativas, I still take the time to remove every little stick, stem and leaf before smoking..it definitely smokes smoother that way as the stems smoke hot and harsh.
