Pure Thai Sativas

That's what I figured. I can't say that I am a legendary grower but those thais are doing just fine. They are autoflowering, but unlike ruderlis; she skips vegetation and goes straight to flower. Literally throws pistils at 2 weeks. I was caught by surprise and had to transfer from cups to the ground during flowering. That may very well have stunted them. I do not know how it will effect them to be placed in a huge pot under 18/6. Maybe then they won't autoflower.

The indicas behind are definitely underfeed and stunted. They were supposed to be pure sativas, dr. grinspoon. I only kept them because the insects seem to like them better than my thais. So I spray them with nicotine water. You can see that they are much more insect damaged than my thais. Seems to keep them off my girls without me having to bother them.

As for the fine silt, that is the natural soil from around here. It's simply camo. Its really easy to spot patches of dark soil in this red dirt. Ants and other insects tend to infest my soil if I don't cover it that way. What's underneath is very different than what's on top.

yeah, Elmer is probably right...I'd suggest working that soil, loosening it up, enriching it by adding compost, sand, gravel, aged manures and other natural ferts and soil amendments (but only light amounts) a month or two before planting there next time and you will get larger, faster growing plants.
Mulch is a good idea too as it helps retain water and encourages worms. Forming the area around where the plant will be into mounds helps with drainage and rooting too.

but having said all that sometimes security is a concern and you can restrict height by not working and improving the soil......and some of the best highs I smoked were from Thais that grew in less than idea soil conditions, I know that the science doesn't back this up, but I've noticed that plants grown in less than ideal conditions have a better high than those that are pampered. (and of course, well cared for plants yield 5 or 10 times more than those grown in dense clay)

You guys don't cover your amended soils with the natural soil from the area? I've always done this to keep people from spotting huge black circles in the otherwise red dirt of my area.

Every year I say I'm going to mulch and yet to implement it. I will do it for this winter.

I do the same too Samson.....but now days I usually don't start seedlings in pots of peat moss based soils that come in a bag and instead use soil that is similar to what you are growing in that has been amended for better drainage.

another thing that really makes plots stand out in the bush is perlite..it's light and great for carrying into the bush, but cos it's light will tend to drift up to the surface and shines like white diamonds in the sun. but several arms full of dry leaves, little branches, rocks etc scattered around the plants will help hide it

Ah I hadn`t considered the Autoing .
I remember you mentioning it now .

My point is, some more prep work and you will reap a helluva lot more erb . The risks of growing it will be the same . Just better reward for your risk .

Yes stealth is generally a factor for me too .
Nothing that can`t be over come with some super cropping .
These plants get fed regularly ...
Haze cross .

Growing pure sativas, I like to stay away from peat. One of these days I want to try one of those systems that makes use of a pond for nutrients. Have you seen those before? I would love to tie it into some sort of outdoor hydro system.

Nice, how many plants is that?
I have a few plants I tied down too. I don't put them here cause they aren't pure thais. This one is a male congo opt haze, there is a little thai in there so I'll post it. Being a male, it only got water the last month of it's life.

The group shot is nine plants .

I am commenting re the water and nutes as I have learnt the hard way ...

Ganja likes water . If its dry it goes into stasis and waits . eventually the lower fan leaves yellow . If you like smoking colitas . Water often .

No water = No transpiration . = No nute uptake .

Now you got me worried I'm not watering enough. For those nine plants, about how much water do you give them?

They are in pots of coco so it won`t give you a good reference .
I have been watering / feeding them every second day .They get about a litre of water / nute each .
They will need water every day as spring rolls on and the temps rise .

Sticking a finger in the soil and feeling the dampness is my measure when to water outdoors . Some mulch would help retain moisture longer .

Not sure the origins of your strain . It may surprise a lot of folks to know large areas of Thailand are desert like . One big wet season then very dry the rest of the year . But the rivers and streams fed from the north run year round .

Hi Samson,

If bad soil is your problem, you might consider to add a good deal of potting soil next time. This year I did this for the first time and I swear, my plants got double in size. I added as much potting soil as every pot contained. So for a 3 liter pot I digged an 8 liter hole. I added 3 liter potting soil on top of the 3 L pot. Then I partly filled the remaing hole with the original soil to keep the potting soil moist. This also gives the effect that when it rains the water flows too remaing hole; which is only 1.5 inch lower than the rest.

You lost me in that. Are you saying 8 liter hole with 1 parts potting soil, pot and topped with the original soil?

By the way guys, Im not having soil issues. My main problems were 100 degree heat in the summer, drought and grasshoppers. Lets get back to the thais.

What I mean is:

First you dig a hole of about 8 liters. Then you make a layer of 2 inches with potting soil, then you put your plant in and fill the sides again with potting soil. After that you can put some of the original soil on top, but this is not necessary. As long as you put the same volume of potting soil as the pot you want to transplant. Where I live there is löss soil which keeps water very well. That's why I put some on top of the potting soil, which has a more aerated structure. Hope this clears things out.

Haha just send me a dump truck full of that Hawaiian black gold. Does the hawaiian soil treat landrace strains well?

Siever, I think were talking about the same thing. I use that method too. Otherwise, the rich aerated soil brings about insects.

Hi Highs; Maybe someone can tell me what in the Thai stick strains gave me the matrix highs? I have heard the CBG acting as catalyst. for sure it can't be the THC. Thanks for any advise.
