thank god it didnt pass, the law made no sense, keep it medical. no benefit of fullout legal, for us anyways.

Im just wanting to know whats the benefit of state legal cannabis still illegal under federal law vs medical cannabis still illegal under federal law.
All of you yes voters dont make sense me, you are all ignorant. I dont believe in goverment even being used in the same sentence as cannabis, they have been hateful and disrespectful of our loved plant. The plant is better off not being exploited by the goverment. its far to sacred. they will make anything legal as long as thier share is in it.Thanks god this law didnt pass.

Recount Florida style!!!!!

Recount Florida style!!!!!

No you lost and you will realize it when you start losing your med rights. you assholes gave the federal government full jurisdiction over califonia.

THE WHOLE PLANET LOSES, but I guess for you your pride is more valuable than your freedom. enjoy your future cage, although I hope you avoid it!

Your fear mongering all summer just did not work. Now you tell me I am going to lose my med rights. You kinda act like a wonna be bully.
Use that energy to get behind a decent law for the People.2012 will be here so quick everyone will wonder how they wasted the time because they still will not have the mo to get the bill passed. You have 700 days to get the bill passed. JK

I am starting to wonder if people are just using this topic to troll with.

No benefit to it being legal? You have got to be kidding me. Just think about what impact it would have had on other states moving forward.

State government profiting from pot, or a cartel profiting and ruining your ecology?

The only states that prop 19 would possible effect are those that are already close to cali on that issue. Prop 19 would do nothing for Texas, Luisiana, Florida, and all the other criminalized states. If you think it would, where is thier medical marijuana and their decriminalized weed? I'd rather see outlaws profit from pot than state/fed government myself...lol

The way I see it:

1. The State really could have used the money. I don't like paying more taxes than "necessary" either, but fuck, we NEED the money! Our schools, parks, roads and shit are FUCKED. If they don't get our money through a cannabis tax, they'll get it some other way. Might as well make weed legal in the process.

2. This was an opportunity for TRUE entrepreneurs to make legitimate businesses out of cannabis cultivation. It's not even just about legalizing growing/smoking. It's about having hookah lounges, coffee shops, liquor stores and other small businesses. Wal-Mart isn't going to just start monopolizing weed. Large corporations are beholden to middle-America and stock holders. This was a chance for some smart growers on the hustle to do what the Phillip-Morris and Anheuser-Busch founders did back in the day. All that opportunity for marijuana entrepreneurship just went out the window.

3. To the growers who voted no: You are so selfish, it is amazing. You run a business and you don't want to pay taxes for it? No shit. Neither does anyone else who owns a small business. Fact of the matter is, our economy NEEDS it. Stop thinking about yourself. You're not noble for providing "medicine" because any benefit it may provide is severely outweighed by the fact that it is you non-taxpayers who are making life shitty for the rest of us. None of you better complain about illegal immigrants in our country, because you don't contribute any more than them.

4. Marijuana prohibition is stupid and it doesn't work. It has never worked and it wastes our money on enforcement. However, the most important part of this bill wasn't the legalization. It was saying to the rest of the WORLD: "Marijuana is not the devil. It is a useful, profitable, harmless plant that many smart, successful and happy people enjoy." All you "No" voters say fuck the government controlling us, but you JUST voted for them to REMAIN controlling us. The point is, it was a STEP in the right direction as opposed to staying put. This time, it was a 5 x 5 plot of land. Had it voted through and made our state money, maybe we could have upped the square footage and made tweaks to it on the next ballot. This result was incredibly short sighted.

I didn't read the whole thread, and these are just my opinions (not pointed at anyone in particular). If you get all butt hurt over what I said, that's on you. We're in shitty times and selfishness is/was NOT the answer.

Out of all the posts on this site and others as well, this one hits the nail right on head at least from my way of thinking.
It wasn't just Cali that dropped the ball either. Weed just got shot down in other states as well. We couldn't come together as one and Uncle Sam is on the phone now I bet with various House and Senate Committee's getting the funds to up the war on a plant. The DEA are polishing their boots and foaming at the mouth waiting for the signal to start kicking in doors.
I wonder if the so called dispensaries/collectives fall under the RICO act for the Fed's. If not, I wonder how long till the Act is amended so they can pursue it.
And I sure as hell hope they don't resort to the measure of the '70's of just flying over outdoor fields and spraying them with paraquat, which they say won't harm you if smoked (sure......cough cough) or worse yet some other poison. No need to get on the ground and pursue you. They could just very well do it from the air hurting you where it will hurt the most....in your wallet, by spraying your crops.

One day weed will be legal, but at the age of 48 I'm pretty certain I'll never see it in this lifetime.

They never actually said anything at all about it. Holders letter was addressed to former DEA agents not to the people of California. The feds put up absolutely nothing. No position whatsoever. either they were willing to let the cards fall as they may and finally see if we were right about MJ being a solution. Or they were sure it wasn't going to pass. Or you are right and they never worried because they had it handled. Based on the poll results a few weeks before the vote it probably isn't a conspiracy.

This year was a loss in the political spotlight for the proposition, but not forever. What we have seen is that 45% of Californians are at least open to the idea of legalization. That is similar to what the polls have been saying about the attitude of the state for the last 6 months.

I can't say I am surprised by Prop 19 losing. It has been in the writing on the wall since I first heard about it going into the petition process. All this tells me is that less than half the people in my state value freedom of choice.

FUCKIN A! I'm amazed there were that many yes votes when I think about it realistically. My YEA vote and many others have not even been counted yet, but are still sitting in post-office collection boxes waiting to be opened and processed to present the final tally on December 3.

Where do we go from here? Onward and upward, or are we going to cry about the result we already knew would happen?

We still have work to do. This ain't the end of the world yet folks.

Hmmmm.... Marijuana is decriminalized...
.... Jerry brown is in office...
.... Gavin is in office...
.... Cooley looks like he will be loosing...
.... and a poorly written prop 19 did not pass.

Things look greater than ever for the movement! We should all be celebrating! There WILL be another prop on the ballot next election, along with some other states... The feds were bout to crack down hard if we were to pass the prop it would a been a whole new battle, things are looking good the way they are now. What happened to all the optomistic people? Yall need to smoke a blunt and go get a script. By the way, prices are as low as 1600 us dollars a pound in cali right now for some good humbolt outdoor, 2500 for some top grade indoor. 100-150 an ounce, 200 tops for top shelf and thats if you dont know anybody cuz you can get top shelf indo right now for 150.
... the prices are going down anyways, yall should not be complaining so much and be thankful for what it is.
Peace!

If the bill was written better, those percentages would be the other way around. IMO.

I can't say which way I would have voted. I do like the whole legal thing, but there were a couple of things that I really didn't like. I don't think it was the bill for cali, maybe for ny or maine or something but cali already has a good scene.

The worst part about the loss in terms of what people think will be the media spin...

Yah Colorado is crazy for medical
with 1000 patients a DAY paying the state $90.
for a permit;
$90K a day for CO.

Too bad Cali aint smart enough to go 4 that......

EDIT: Only 8% of the public are committed smokers.
The other 92% don't see it as a priority in society
because they
don't understand the dynamic of prohibition like us.
we must educate them better if we are to win next time.

WOW...I guess Cali is no longer the leader in this fight! Since 1996, Cali has lead the way & been very progressive. Thank you Cali for your service through the years, but it's time to move on!

Can everyone say Colorado!!

^you have to live in America to understand this one. I really really wish this would have passed, but it really was a poorly written bill as far as American Ideals go. The Important part now is that we all stick together and keep pushing for a better bill. It doesnt matter what state you live in, just keep pushing for a better bill and keep overgrowing.

It's done, it's over, lets all refocus on the next step so the new cali Government and the feds dont kill all the med rights!!!

Not passing was understandable to me as many patients I know were voting against it as their growing space would be greatly reduced. Many peeps, including I, didn't like the way the bill was written though I still voted for it. It needed some tweeking for sure, but I worried I'd never see this again, I still do. There are a lot of people pushing for this, the wave is still intact, and I'll do what I can the rest of my life to get this on another ballot. We're strong, this was a good example of just how strong...DD

I'm against Richard Lee and I was against prop 19, the feds were just going to come in and kick our asses for trying to make it legal. If your in cali and you really want to smoke legally, get off your ass go to the doctor and get your med card. Its just not the right time yet and we had the wrong people backing prop 19 for the wrong reasons. We need someone that truly loves and cares about cannabis, not someone who wants publicity and to make more money.

I will agree that everybody in cali should go get their med card, just like i think everyone in Texas should have there concealed carry license. when 90% plus of the population has something, it is pretty much impossible for the government to take it away. If over 90% of the population in cali has that card the market would be 3 times as big, and qualifies as a perfect example of overgrowing government control peacefully. well at least peacefully on our part. cops are violent.
