Project EDEN - the COCO-COOP

B

hehe :D its not easy to find this quality hash....

tested the ebb and flow system and it works. only got to make sure the water level is allways going to be over the level of the intake of the pump - if not the reflow thing will not work...

i managed to program a digital timer WITHOUT a manual... :joint: :headbange :jump:

now i just got to fine tune the timing of the watering. i dont think i will water more than once a day since thats what these plants are used to anyway.

i really do hope the change to the ebb and flow table is not going to create any problems.

to make sure there isnt any initial high salt levels - due to any possible build up in the coco - i will flush the pots well before putting them in the system. tomorow i will sawp the plants to the tray to see how it works.

peace man :D

how much water does the res keep? how much of the water does the plants use per time? can you hold enough water to compensate for loss from plant use? tell us all about it after the first run!

good luck!

the rez is huge :) more than 100 liters - it should be able to hold enough for a week or more.. ?! lets see, :D

it will get set up in the living room - where the light shines in from outside - its difused and a lot more mellow for the plants than the fluoros that are basicly touching them :D

im going to keep polishing the design today - im not enirelly happy with the fact the 2 trays dont fill equally, since if air comes in the tubes when the water is sucked backback into the rez - the air bubble makes the water to go easier for the hose that doesnt have a bubble - so i have to make some kind of device to ballance the water level between the two. easiest thing i can think of is to put a hose/tube between the trays to connect them :D

lets see ... ;)

B

bonecarver_OG

some facts about measures of the ebb and flow setup :D

the 2 trays are together 70 x 110 cm. the edges are 13 cm high. that fits about 90 liters full. not that i plan to fill it complettelly with water.

i have been experimenting with 5 minute intervalls of watering - that almost fills up the tray too much.

the pump i use is a super small, very silent pond water pump. it doesnt have a lot of power - but if the "lift" is not too high - it can deliver 1000 liters in one hour. the size of the pump is about 3-4 cigg-packs in comparison.

the rez is 50 x 36 x 75 cm = 135 liters full - more or less.

i know the plants i have in veg uses a bit less than 6 liters a day.

im a bit scetchy about the fact the rez will most likelly be going up in PH when the water from the plants go back into the rez - but i wont have ANY way of trying to fix that - so i just hope not too much troubles will occure during my stays outside the flat.

now im going to start sorting out the "ballancing" of the water level of the 2 trays. just really a controller tube or what ever to call it.

im basicly going to drill a hole in each tray, and glue a bit of flexible tube in between. depending on the flow/size of the tubes - i might need to add several. im going to have a look to see what all i got here at home i CAN use.

i dont want spend too much on this temporary solution.

peace all!

i suddenly feel scetchy about the drilling holes and tubes things for the trays - dont want to risk that i get leaks when im not here...

morocco make the best hash of the world ..there's no story with indians..
and i can't imagine if they start to grow and cure the buds like us what they could do with theyr stuff!!! :headbange

in the past i had a pump per table, it seemed to work well, avoid drilling holes in the sides of your tray unless you have a fitting that will fit tightly and seal the hole perfectly with silicone, everything else turns into trouble...

i had my pump hose always attached to the lowest point of the table to allow it to drain through the same line, slow and nice, i had a bit of plastic mesh around the well head on the table so as to not to suck back and clog it with leaves that fell of

i would suggest a bigger water res than that, about atleast twice, but dont listen to me, i just found it to be nice not to have to change water too often, and having a larger amount of water seemed to help with the ph, keeping it more steady

i hope it all works out!

( i wouldnt leave until you knew for sure it works 100percent)

even when i left for a day or two i would come back to having half the plants fallen over from the fan wind, clogging the drain, overflowing onto the floor........

it could get really messy fast!

best of luck bro!

i need some pakimarocc

no good hash in bc, except for ice etc, very few people make good hash

i think i make better hash than what i usually find here, the best was a marocc shavings and purged butane oil mixed together.

that looked like your pakimarocc, but couldnt taste as good!

B

bonecarver_OG

bro :D im sure it tasted as good :D

im going to have only one short watering cycle a day.

i decided not to drill holes.

if the split thing on the pump makes too much trouble... i will just fill the trays up - with airstones, and forget about the pump for watering. coco is really sphongy so it works ok sucking up the water :D only problem is the eventual salt build up.

im not going to go away for more than one week max at a time.

dam it - if i cant get a mate to come and water my plants in flowering.. i will be fu*ked anyway...

no friends around here knows what a PH meter is so it wouldnt be fun.

later on im definetly going to experiment more with ebb and flow tables.

it seems very expensive to buy bigger containers of plastic for the water, so i would go for many small tables :D im thinking about a few test setups i want to do :D well.. in a bunch of months im in my new house with almost unlimited space for messing around with the grow.. so i just try to keep things cheap now :D

peace man!

hi buddy bro!

yeah tanks can be expensive, but if you go to a used farm/agricultural equipment store they would have tons of stuf like that

my buddies found me a 40 cm by 150 times 150 cm icm thick plastic water tank thing that they cut into a open top tank with a circular saw, i think they paid around 20 bucks for it.
worked great, was heavy duty like nothing else

im sure that it will work out fine with your get up

hey try making a drainage point on the tray so that you can recollect it into the container even when filling, the overflow on one side would drain back into the tank while the other side got its water

oh yeah, sometimes small pots will float and fall over before they absorb enough water, you could avoid that in any way that would hold them in their spot, weights or what ever method you shoose.

i found a pump that was really small, it sucked through the bottom which all the better ones for that purpose do, it was timed for 50 seconds or something close to it, the seventy plants i had did allright like that, except for as i previously said that they kept falling over later in budding, several times per 24 hours, i didnt want to use ropes or anything like that at the time, so oh well, stones on the rock wool cubes helped in the end.

after that ive thought about just having trays of leca balls and perlite etc, with hydro ponic feryilising and watering, but less frequently, just an idea for the future
ebb and flow is great

i had a friend who didnt trust them, he watered around 450 plants by hand every twodays, three gallon pots with soil, two and a half hours or so at the time,

if he wasnt cleaning his tanks for mixing ferts, he would be hand watering, the dude barely made it to work most days.

it all ended with a fast take down at midnight hours after harvest, relocated and restarted within weeks. it was a lot of work.( i dont mind, ive put up a lot and taken down many without having had more than two set ups my self for hydroponicss) it pays well to be a handy carpenter that keeps his mouth shut...

take care!

B

bonecarver_OG

hehe i know u are a hell of a carpenter ;) :D

for the moment the rez will do - later for my future experiments i would look for a bigger rez :D

the plants im going to have on the ebb-trays are all in veg - and actually for the moment it seems enough to just fill the trays by hand an wwait untill the plants have sucked it all up :D lazy aproach - but im first of all checking how many days they can go without getting dry.

keep in mind im not trying to make a perfect veg environment for them - merelly to keep them alive during my trips outside the flat :D

its a pain in the ass to be hand watering plants. in coco i got to pretty much water every day, i water about 25-30 liters a day, the problem is not the weight, rather the fact the growroom is close to 40degrees celsius, and the high humidity makes every move to an ordeal. it truly is like a sauna - and working in a sauna is just not nice :D

i thought about the floating pots thing - but the fact the coco does keep more water than rockwool or leca balls - the pot dont get all that dry or light.

im going to keep an eye on them untill i feel safe about it all :D

i usually allways tie up my plants in later flowering - many phenos get branches that arent strong enough to keep the weight of the buds :D it looks like a huge spider web at times, with all the strings and wires going all over the place. its a PIA to get in there when its like that .. :D

hehe my coco blog :D its nice there is visiters :D a BIG hug to you all, and thanks for the visit.

i respect all of you and it obviously wouldnt be the same to post - if there wasnt any visitors.

only thing is.. sometimes id like ppl to get involved a bit more :D but if there isnt any questions :D what can i do :D peace and i pass the spliff to ya all :D

gee bone.... here I thought working in a sauna was IT..... :D
seems to me if you had a heat wave and no moving air, that might be your worst problem..... when you get your greenhouse up you will be able to do a winter crop like no one else.......... you may need a misting system for summer, for veg and early flower, or the heat there will also be an issue.

:D :D :D

mrs m

PS I think the alibeep f2s are going to out produce the deep wreck maybe three to one, but then, that's just how it looks right now.... I wish you the best vacation and that you do not need to worry too much.

hi folks!
hi medjool, nevermind and the rest
you too brother bone

i love that i can post in your thread and not have that much to do with coco( which would be my indoor choice)

regarding my out door project, worries and melancholy is kicking in, im sure i chose a bad strain for this climate and it will all botrytis(budrot) away during its finishing stages in late december

after ive spent six months carrying water im sure ill only get root balls to make cookies out of.........

pessimism sucks, so im going to om mani padme hum my way through this cloudy end of summer(as it feels like)

im sure im over reacting, but darn, mid august and no real budding going on and the season is ending, ill have another six weeks of ok weather with rain everynow and then, and i beg, no pray to the gods of the forest to grant me a good harvest

as long as rippers dont get to it

next year less involvement in the plants, detachment is better, if i feel ownership over all my plants even a single missing cola due to deer would be negative but if i could just plant where i dont have to water, i could let them be....

but deer feed in areas that are closer to water and lusher with more growth

cliffs they might sleep on or walk through, not usual gracing ground for them, thats why im lucky with only two lost tips so far, and those plants turned into bushes so thats ok

all in all i shouldnt worry, and probably smoke some more herb, that would be good for me.

i hope you all dont have to worry too much.!

much love fellas!

stoneshaper, I feel very badly for you. Next year make sure you have some genetics that can finish... some of the guys in Denmark or Switzerland maybe would have a good recommendation. I've also forced a plant using a box that had housed some kind of large appliance in it, but you can hardly be hauling such a thing to your guerilla spot...... but forcing is useful, and all you really need to do is cover the plant from like five in the evening until ten maybe. It depends on when you get some shade, which you may take advantage of.....

hi all ! :D

mr-nevermind - go for it :D

medjool - hehe im looking soo much forward to the green house! :D im sure my life will change complettelly :D hehe

bro - im sure some of esbens genetics from denmark should go very well indeed at ur latitude.. u seen the threads of esben and paddi u know :D maybe if u are lucky u can get hold of some beans later on :D

B

bonecarver_OG

hehe :D

the heat is fu**ing the plants up BIG time :D hehe

still there is a few that are doing pretty well - the cross made by Marijuanaut looks very good even though the heat is relentless... - its Super Haze x Belladonna - ill post some pics later on...

peace !

i put a clone of the sleepy cascadia pheno on a friends balkony :D we are going to be 3 persons sharing it.. so i really hope its going to grow quick!

its going to get transplanted very soon to a much muhc bigger pot - and its going to recieve BIO-MAGNO nutes! :D its a pleasure and an honour to test these nutes!! big thanx BIO MAGNO!!

i can see now the nutes are going to a LONG way - the small dosage seems SUPER-ECONOMIC.. 0,5 ml/ liter - thats 5 ml/10 liters.. lets see how it works!!
