Portable Soil Bed - SOG

About Advanced Nutrients, and this IS true, many other Arcatans can attest to this, as I parked next to the thing yesterday, and it has been there for awhile. What I am talking about is AN's piranha and tarantula mobile. It's all decked out with their logos and yadda yadda yadda, but that's not what I'm talking about. Now I know why their prices are so damn ridiculous. ITS A FUCKING HUMMER. Og style, H1. Best part is that as far as I know, it's been in the same spot, unmoved for at least a month.

I've never bought any of their stuff out of price issue, but talk about overhead.

BTW, your shit's looking awesome.

Everything I said was true. If you disagree, back it up with some facts or proof, otherwise you're just trolling.

Btw, nice grow, if I offended you with my advice previously, I apologize.

UPDATE- DAY 29 OF FLOWERING

UPDATE- DAY 29 OF FLOWERING

so i went to So Cal and Vegas for a couple weeks, and when i got back the girls were in full bloom. The tangerine smell hits you right when you walk in the room, putting a smile on everyone's face. after working in there for a while you too will start smelling like a tangerine :rasta: props to my boy for taking care of the girls while i was on vacation

everything is blooming very fast.... orange hairs are starting to develop on some of the tops. hopefully we can achieve the same 42-day flowering time that my boy has dialed in with his tangerine farm ;)

the bins are totally overgrown, nugs overflow the bins and end up filling up the walkways. trimming all the undergrowth is a never-ending task. some of the bins are more jungley than others, but day-by-day we are getting closer to a completely lollipopped crop.

no problems yet except for a SHITLOAD OF GNATS... these have been around since day 1 but got really bad recently... i tried the Gnatrol already, maybe i should just get some more traps?

temps are running betw. 79-84F with lights on, a little high but the girls are loving it.. i will get a CO2 tank in the next day or two

anyway heres some pictures, they're not the best but neither is my camera :(
:joint:

the walkways are getting narrower...

Original Tangerine Mommy

Original Tangerine Mommy

this is the Tangerine bagseed mom from last summer (2007) which started it all. Little 5 gallon pot and she grew as big as me  crazy mendo genetics...

...

here's another picture, the two little plants in the foreground are clones of the big plant :) we're tight like that

FUCK

FUCK

one of my ballasts broke apparently. the bulb started strobing and then went out, and the ballast started making a weird high pitched clicking sound? kind of like a computer..

so i went and bought at new ballast ($200) at the hydro store, they gave me a switchable 120/240 MH/HPS xtrasun ballast. too bad the cord has this kind of plug

which won't fit in here

aint life a bitch.. now it's back to the hydro shop..

Hi Shcrews!
First I have to say, your set-up looks great, man. :nono: Very good technique.

You could simply cut off the wrong plug and put on a right one.
I'm sure it would cost less than € 1,- and it's very easy to handle.
I'll also start a *portable soil bed grow* in a few days, but only on 0.5m² with 8 plants :D
Anyway, nice report. I'll stay tuned for sure!

Day 34

Day 34

well I got the ballast issue sorted out... all 4 lights are up and running again. :jump:

the plants are doing great, all the buds are starting to fill out and smell like tangerines

we are feeding them Budswell, Botanicare ProBloom, Botanicare Sweet Citrus, and some FF Tiger Bloom just for the hell of it.

So Far no problems at all with this run... hopefully we will pull everything within 2 weeks... this is a 45 day strain supposedly. i will update again soon now that flowering is going quickly

day 36

so I went and bought a 20lb co2 tank, but i dont have a proper regulator, so after 6 hours or so the tank was empty.... figures. now i gotta get that regulator

also, does anyone know the ideal humidity? my room is usually around 50%, but when i water it gets up to 60% sometimes. my AC does a decent job dehumidifying but not that great

besides that everyhthing is looking great

:joint: :joint:

nugs are getting fatter and more frosty

Day 41 (last week before harvest at 7 weeks)

Day 41 (last week before harvest at 7 weeks)

everything is finishing on schedule... the Tangerine was a 6-week finisher last time, but i like to give her some extra time for the lower tops to finish. i might chop the top colas soon and then wait a few days on the bottoms, but ideally i can chop everything at once

I rearranged the room because my partner took his share early (4 bins out of 12) so i put the remaining 8 bins in the center of the room with 4k over them, so they are soaking up the extra light :rasta:

no problems with the yield as far as i can tell, though we obviously wont have a dry weight for a week or two.. the buds swole up and the branches are starting to bend over under the weight. reminds me again why i grow Tangerine.... 6 week finisher that produces a lot and looks like this....

here is a shot of the whole room, as much as i can fit on camera.

the blue bic lighter (normal size) is resting on a cola to show the garden's proportions

Looking great, man. Those soil beds are nice. I might put something like that into play in the near future. Though maybe with less FFOF per bin. (Stretch with coco?)

Anyways, keep up the good work.

50% humidity while in Bloom is a great number and 60 isn't bad when you water.

I'm a bit skeptical about so many plants, but if it works, more power to ya! I thought of doing the same thing but with less plants to simulate growing in beds. Way to go and great job pulling it off. I'm really interested in hearing your yield number when you get to it.
I was also quite impressed with the last pics you posted as the tops look pretty damn big to be jammed in those totes.

As far the gnat thing... I suggest adding diatomaceous earth to your soil. I've had gnat problems in the past, and tried many things to get rid of them and none worked... but this stuff is the bees knees. Just add it to your soil mix and your good to go. It was described to me as being like crushed glass for insects and the stuff is organic.. or naturally occurs in nature.

I also have the gray little box... but I use the plugs like the one you sent back.... the gray box is great though!

are there any benefits from adding CO2 for the last 5-7 days of flowering? LOL just got a controller so i thought i would ask

thought for my next op:

-perpetual harvest

-two sealed 10x10 flowering rooms running 4Kwatts each on a flip-flop system.. with co2 and a 12,000 BTU window AC in each room

using Issack's idea, i will build two 4x8 soil beds in each room... each bed will have 2 1000's over it, on movers.. each bed will have approx 200 plants in it, and i will plant one bed per room every 3 weeks, so i will basically be pulling 400 plants every 3 weeks after the first 6 week flowering period.

I will use 4x 100-site homemade EZ cloners to supply my clones.. , i can make each one for less than $100 using the DIY method on this site. I will keep 5-10 Tangerine mothers on hand.

I expect each bed to yield 2-4 LBs, giving me 4-8 LBs every 3 weeks

hopefully this will have commenced by january

Day 43 of 12/12

Day 43 of 12/12

all the colas are starting to bend over under their own weight....shit is ridiculous. i think i'm going to have to chop soon just to keep them from falling over..

in retrospect, the portable soil bed method is probably one of the easiest ways to grow.. unlimited root space, and you can move them around like pots if you want. I just saw some 55 Gallon Rubbermaid bins at Home Depot, those would be even better than the 45Gal Sterilite bins i'm using now.

I was skeptical at first too, my friend who uses the portable bed method swore by it though.. he said he's getting 2+ LBs per light with this strain. we shall see... this is my VERY FIRST INDOOR GROW, i've only done outdoor, so i am extremely pleased. The original Tangerine mother yielded 8 ounces in a 5 Gallon pot outdoors, so it is definitely a producer.

as long as you give them enough light they have no problems, but walking around in the room is a bitch cause its so crowded. and like i said now the top colas are bending over from their own weight
