IR is heat based, not light. The screen is designed to show objects of even slightly diff temps as diff colors or shades of brightness.

FLIR can be used in either day time or night time. Depending on the department and what unit they are using and the model. The FLIR unit can see in the day time. If the unit has the White Hot setting. This is the setting they will use to see the grow. This in my opion, is the best setting for looking for a grow in the day time. I've been trained by some of the best people in the business and know tons about FLIR. It's funny how people just won't goto google and do a search on FLIR. There is tons of data about the units and some about by passing them. Verite has said something very good. "IR is base on heat, not light", so you need to mask the heat in a manner that the FLIR won't see it. Lowering the room temp, placing sheilding material up, and proper venting. I'll do a thread on a brand new FLIR unit and members will see how they work and how to avoid detection from them. It won't be for sometime, but worth the wait for sure.
Take care and be safe

thanks GDW that was my suspision. I know from my part of the world that the cop'ters are doing both speed chase work and in between scouting for other goings on.....but that action happens at nite ...............

had em circling above about a week ago in the early evening which gave me the heads up. I'm not doing a grow now but I think the extra precautions are going to be necessary when I do

although I was thinking a 12/12 cycle timed to run through the day might help since they do most their flying in the nite. Start early early morning and finish before or just on sundown. would need to put more energy into cooling but I think its a good way to go.

take advantage of their habits where you can.

also I got no probs with googling, but a quick summary from someone who knows helps out plenty so thx to ya 4 dat.

GOOGLE BABY, Jokin

Start early in the morning and get those light off asap. That's how i would do mine. Well, what some people do, like in Hawaii. You give the lawyer a call and have him call and mail them a letter to the local boys to stop doing flyy over's in local area's. It might sound funny, but i know for a fact. That a nasty letter from a good lawyer with stop that shit. If your not growing and they are circling your house and they won't stop. Call the local boys up and tell them if they don't stop spying on you and your WOMEN. Your going to start throwing rocks up in the blades and see how fast they will get the idea. I hate those fuckin assholes. Wish they would just stick to eating donuts.
Take care

if you wanna go crazy, i have a buddy who surrounded his grow in some sort of Lead curtain... he says it blocks everything

I think you may be confusing this with Superman's inability to see through lead.

Here is a little something I dug up while looking for materials to build a cab. I know I've seen it for sale in hardware stores too so supply is easy without any safe address issues. Easy to make resuable, and easy to clean, its a nice tough material.

I was thinking small and using velcro but it would work nicely in scale too imo. Cover story for your troubles... you work for a guy that owns a walk up apartment building with 18 or so suites and you have to insulate the water tanks.

Peace

I use that stuff for the two walls of my room that arent foundation. Works good. Its like bubblewrap sandwiched between two sheets of tinfoil. I wonder if it would hold a large capacitive charge?

thats what im using curretly(in my build of the new grow), a doubel skin of this on e PVC opipe frame with and air gap inbetween and panda poly on the inside... Lights will be aircooled, I thought this stuff would be great in conjunction with good venting..... now here comes the wiered bit...its cheaper for me to get this at the GROWSHOP than to buiy it from a B&Q or wickes type place....crazy huh....

Line your roof in keplar. A shit load of bullet proof vest would work. Just j/k. Isn't FLIR the same imaging as an MRI. I bet a lot of lead lined walls wood work. I know a friend who puts rebar in the walls inbetween studs so that know one can come through the wall with a chain saw.

Um because people do that often in your neck of the woods? No one does the simple knock and enter with a gun anymore? Or was there a killer sale on chainsaws?

Hi Somoz,

Yeah it's pretty much the same thing. The metal use in this type of sheet is LEAD.

Peace :joint:

from HighTimes April 2006 gear guide:
HEAT SHIELD
Infared technology has been improving by leaps and bounds latley, and invasion of privacy has become a sport for cops in choppers. The good news is that there's a new way to hide the heat output of your clandestine indoor garden. POLY SHIELD blocks the telltale glow, creating a thermal barrier that protects your plants from prying eyes on "routine patrol" . Simply surround your grow space w/ poly shield to provide peace of mind blah blah...
price 6 by 100 foot roll 299.99
contact hydro wholesale 8668032100 hydrowholesale.com
Hope that helps, but damm is it expensive.

I'm into security issues and ......

If someone gets into my stash or room I'll see them. I''ve got a webcam running, free DNS, which in turn gives you the same IP address. So, even if they steal the webcam as well, their pictures are out on the web. You can go away from home and check your room anytime you log into your account. Neat,eh? I'm all for steel and locks too! But, if you get visitors, you'll know not to go home. Better still, check your site before going home just to be on the safe side. :bat:
