art.spliff, I would love a description of your food and ingredients.
I start most days with a green smoothie. Ingredients vary depending on what I have in the fridge but generally goes something like this.
1/2 a banana (skin left ON, nutrients and fiber)
Cruciferous veges such as broccoli and cauliflower (as much as will fit)
Chia or flax seed
Hemp protein or nuts (walnuts or almonds)
Occasionally I will add some fresh beetroot if I don't have enough greens. This makes it a purple smoothie. Sometimes I might add parsley.
If blueberries are in season I will add some.
Add water and blitz in a nutribullet or similar. I try and drink it over half an hour or so.
We were put off diets in the Hippie days by people obsessed with food who only talked about what they ate ..
These days (in our seventies) we eat what I 've seen described as a Mediterranean Diet. Lots of veg, pasta and a little meat to flavour. Stir fries made up of what's in the garden or pantry.
Despite this my Partner had excessive Cholestorol. Turned out her love of cheese was the culprit. She stopped eating cheese and her cholesterol dropped into the normal range.
Here's a quick side dish I made today. Brown rice, peas, mushrooms, red bell pepper, scallion and thai basil. Served it with a potato (regular and sweet), baby bok choy and tempah. Tempah is something people either love or hate. I for one love the nutty flavor!
