I concur, but I think you have to with Krome, his results speak for themselves

I wait till I could take a bunch of clones from a plant ( not saying I would) just that I wait for it to be that old, normally at least 4 weeks, allows the plant to build a good root system

Pirate, in all honesty mate, I reckon that light is too much for that space, you will have heat and light burn issues no matter what you do, save your money on the dehumidifier and buy a smaller light, I reckon a 250 HPS might even be pushing it but would yield better results with temp and light burn being a factor. How high is that cabinet? doesnt look anymore than about a metre.
Even if you lived in the north pole no amount of cooling will stop the light burn from a 400 watt light in that at that height, alot of times you need to raise the light well above the plants in order to facilitate things such as new seedlings and clones.

Hope the plants recover anyway, and you can prove me wrong.

the cab is 2.5 ft, which is too short, but my new cab wont be ready for months. i am planning on keeping the plants about 8 inches or so away from the light with a fan blowing right across the top of the plants, plus im scrogging. so im hoping i never have another heat burn again, but next grow wont be ghetto. i will have a cooltube, 3 foot cab, and a CMH bulb. just gotta make this cab work for one grow then its retired.

hey Pirate, nice thread!

heat issues, huh? bet you can't guess what i'm gonna suggest - put a 200 watt compact floro in there! heat won't be an issue. won't be as fat as with HPS for sure, but they can get you what you need if you can't get around the heat problems. below was my harvest, first grow ever and done with all floros.

either way, i'll be pluggin' for you! grow on brother!

update: my cal-mag came in so in a couple days they will get some needed cal-mag plus, only 2ml per gallon of course.

Lookin good pirate,
I also wanted to get two ounces off of each of my big buddha cheese plants...and I'm not so sure I'm going to be able to pull it off. I'm planning on vegging mine super extra long... so I would recommend you veg as long as possible. This isn't exactly a big yielding strain.

You might end up being disappointed in the end if you don't get two ounces... so I think it would be better to not think of a number you're shooting for, and just try to grow them as big as possible. I'm using a 400 watt aircooled light, my temps never go above 80, and I think the most I'll get per plant is 2 ounces.

I think if you veg your plants a little longer, definitely LST them, and get your temps to stay under 85, your 2 ounce goal will be more realistic... but I'd say as a best case scenario.

hey pirate, i found this info on LST. it explains the hormonal "steroid boost" low stress training provides... should be helpful.

Bushes are ideal plants to grow for anyone who has a small HID flower light (under 400 watts) or uses fluoros. Smaller lights and fluoros emit the most intense light for only a short distance, so keeping as much vegetative growth in the lights sweet spot is a must to make your lights most efficient. SCROGgers take maximum advantage of this by weaving tops through a screen so only tops are exposed to the light. Well, training attempts to achieve the same goals only with a less work intensive method that will make more use of your small lights limited effectiveness

peace and a bounteous grow, brother.

Even a 3 foot ( I assumed you meant height here) Cab is WAY TOO SMALL for a 400 watter, like I mentioned before HEAT/ HUMIDITY ISSUES and LIGHT BURN will see you yield much less than what a 250 watt would do in the same space.

I would however like to see you prove me wrong, but if shit is going downhill fast then these would be your main issues.

ok update. the BB cheese is 3 days into flowering. i know alot of you wanted me to grow em bigger first but i just dont have the vertical room in my ghetto cab. im hoping that they show their sex in about a week(please all females!). they have all now been watered for about 2 weeks with some cal-mag plus so hopefully they will get greener soon. im not gona give em my PBP bloom until about 2 weeks into flower. here's a couple pix of em.

Hey Pirate. Hope you're doing well. To be honest, I didn't want to see them necessarily bigger, just more lush if you will. If it were me, I would start feeding them now. The cal-mag is a good supplement, but only if used in conjunction with another nute line, ie. pbp. They're not going to green up much by just watering with the cal-mag. They need a complete nute and you already have one sitting there waiting. And back to the other stuff, I don't think that Joe Hawkins means any harm, he's just trying to help out as well. I have to agree with him that I think it may just be too much light for the space. What are your temps running at now? Hope that you get a couple of females at least. Good luck with everything. I'll be checking in to see how things turn out. Take care.

krome: my temps are 78, i am feeding them budswell tea grow formula, i do have PBP bloom and budswell bloom formula waiting in my closet. so you think i should switch over to my bloom nutes now? thought i had to give them time. next grow wont be ghetto, i will have a cooltube for my 400w hps and a taller cab, 36-40" tall. thanx for stopping by krome.

Hey dude, since your going to be staying in that cab I would remove the end of your reflector. I mean the big flat piece by the tip of the bulb. It will really help with air movement around the bulb and keep the temp in the box more uniform. If you dont, once the plants get bigger and reduce the airflow, the hood will act like a broiler and cook your girls. If you could punch another intake hole in the bottom of your cab....it would increase your airflow through the cab a lot. Even with the same exhaust fan it will make a big difference.

That box is actually really nice, great stealth grow. If your scrogging then you can trim some of that lower stuff now to make it easier LST your tops down closer to the pot. I'd try and get those tops down as low as possible and trim back a little. Then throw them into flower and get ready to put a screen in. Keep your screen as low as possible and once the start stretching weave the hell out of them

Its going to be rough, but I bet you can pull something decent once they start perking up! I'll be checkin in to see how its comin along :lurk:

alright meow: thanx for stoppin by, thats a good idea about the reflector, i may try that if i have a heat prob, i do have intake holes on the floors, the scrog screen will go on in a couple weeks ive got it all ready. :smoke:

Looking good Pirate.

Good info from everyone, especially on heat and height.
I am sure you will work it out with that cooltube.

Good luck
