Statements from Dale Hunt Phylos Attorney Resigns last Friday

“What’s crazy about all of this is that someone convinced the cannabis community that they would get some type of protection from sharing this DNA information, and what they got was increased vulnerability,” he said. “Then they got the idea that patents are bad but sharing their DNA information is good, when it’s exactly the opposite."

“NONE: That’s How Much DNA Sequence You Need to Submit A Plant Patent Application.”

Dale Hunt Phylos Attorney finally viewed Mowglis presentation

“When I watched it, I was literally sickened,” he said. “I don’t exaggerate, and I don’t use the word ‘literal’ when I don’t mean it. I hear people talk about Monsanto like it’s Big Ag and an evil corporation, but Monsanto is what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything else. But when I saw a different Mowgli from the person I had ever seen, when I heard him talk about the fact that Phylos was going to basically make obsolete every cultivar, every strain, of cannabis that had been submitted to the Galaxy, I was literally sickened to my stomach. He can backtrack that all he wants, but that’s what he said.”

"I made the mistake of giving Mowgli the benefit of the doubt, and so it’s clear that as of Thursday night I hadn’t done my diligence and had just assumed the best about the people involved. I assumed there was no way it could be this sinister until I watched that video for myself, and it remains with me…I remain in shock, because here’s where I’m still stuck. I wonder if [Phylos] was this duplicitous right from the start."

“But there have been breeders who have been surviving in the hills for generations, hiding from the feds and scraping out a living. These men and women who have survived all kinds of things have a passion and a talent, a gift that is truly magical, and they’re going to survive this, too.”

And to that end, I think it's cool. They've submitted for protection for their variety and no one else is any the poorer for it.

Hi Sam,
When someone gets rights to a genetic code, how far does the code have to alter, for those rights to no longer apply?
Ie. Would a sibling plant, an offspring, even an S1 be covered? They can't for instance (once drug strains get included) get rights to existing strains, but could file for existing clone onlys.
GW did their guenevire (sp?) Clone in the UK.

But in theory, once the code alters at all, that has to be rights over, unless there is some stated tolerance of deviation.

This is a very good question, I would like to learn more on this subject.

Wow, you really hit every branch on the fall down the dumbass tree. National Socialist workers party, shortened due to slang: Nazi, yes they were socialist. You are the type to argue, you have no real stand, you just antagonize, thinking you are witty. I explained what was going on, you failed to grasp it. This was about whether or not Phylos was principled, I obviously expressed an opinion that hit a nerve, good.

Yes they had socialist in their party name.

But if we really want to see who did what where on the dumbass tree we should probably see which of us is correct.

Isn't abolishing trade unions a little far away from socialists??

That's just for starters.

Crack a book, as anyone who knows anything about political history in Germany could tell you: the Nazis weren't socialists by the the end of the 1920's.

But please just understand that you shouldn't be spouting "facts" so willy-nilly.

Learning shouldn't hurt your pride.

Science creates knowledge, politics creates laws, laws create patents. Companies use patents to protect profits for shareholders.
We know this.
People donated for the sake of science, now the shareholders in companies who can make use of that science, will benefit
This is how it is.
Where exactly is the surprise?

I was not surprised myself!
A certain member who was a huge fan boy running round recruiting folks, is the one who was suprised apparently.
Ok, I said I would stop...LOL

I question how worthwhile PVP is, considering it is mired in outdated AOSCA rules relating to plant morphology rather than chemotype. The true power behind what Phylos was doing relates to wide-ranging utility patents--the verything (like their incessant references to Monsanto) they consistently spoke out against. Their corporate counsel (now resigned) said as much when describing his sickness watching Mowgli pitching to investors.

What type of rights? In which country?

you could cover the bases and show the differences......

Sam is a real person. He was the epicenter of the most important breeding project in cannabis history to date. If he were to transfer his knowledge to 99/100 people here, collective brains would literally explode. Let's not get caught up in the minutia. If questions can't be framed with enough explicit detail to demonstrate even a passing understanding of the issues at play, it's important to self-regulate your questions. No sense in wasting people's time.

Sam: I have no personal connection to RC Clarke. I appreciate his published work very much. As I understand it, he is still on the Phylos board. Are you aware of any plan that will publicly distance himself from the company? I'm asking this publicly purposefully, not out of ignorance.
