So it seems we have some varied opinions as of distance from canopy with these lights. Some saying 10 inches is fine with picture of great looking plants others sayin 20-30 inches. I guess I will take the plunge and try t in between and hope for the best. Thanks for all who have contributed to this thread.

I take it the 630 while not as efficient in terms of light pattern to the 315, the 630 would still be better choice for taller plants due to better penetration? Let me know what you guys think I plan on ordering enough units to cover a 12x12 area next month. It sucks though I just bought gavita pros but they fuckin get hot and I was going for less heat. Figure I will give these a shot.

The box of my D-Papillon lights says there has to be 75cm (29.5") between the light and the plants, but I've had the light way closer than that. It's all about the temperature IMO. In veg the plants don't stretch too much even if the lights aren't close. I just measured the current distance from bulb to closest tops and it was 28cm (11").

I mix these with hps and keep them at 36". Penatration is a misnomer. A 1000 watt light does not produce more energetic photons than a 600 nor does it "throw" them farther. It just makes "more" photons per bulb. It's up to the grower to use these photons properly.

Anyone tried sun system's Growbeast?
It's a 1000W DE hps with two 315 cdm's in one fixture. This should put out some serious light.

If the foot print was good I'd possibly consider them, but the addition of the DE ruins the whole idea of needing less cooling...I changed from 1000k watt hps air cooled to 600 pros to save on air conditioning and they are fuckin hot no way around it had to buy a portable air conditioner to even finish the run which screwed the whole power saving idea. Also with people saying you can put the LEC's 10-15 inches away It makes me think you would waste a lot having to have them 3 foot away cuz of the DE.

These were also my concerns, it's obvious the canopy distances won't match and the heat would be a killer in such a fixture. How come the fixture designers didn't consider these things?

It's like fishing lures- some are designed to catch fish, some are designed to catch fishermen at the bait shop.

Dammit I knew the one with flashing lights, motorized dorsal fins, and disco-ball eyes that shoots out multi colored neon eggs was a fuckin rip off! Never caught a damn thing with it.

Wondering what 220 volt timer to use with the with advance's ballast getting one but need a timer that can handle 4 lights . Im using the converter to 220volt . I believe Thomas said to plug a timer into the converter.

I think you want the timer between the wall receptacle & the voltage converter. Otherwise there's idle current going through the converter even when the lights are off. It's just a transformer.

An Intermatic T101 timer would do nicely.

thanks for the input jhhnn.
Is the ballast pic what you used to fire both of those bulbs in that modded reflector?
I still haven't decided what to purchase yet. They all seem to have their own separate pros and cons. I'm still digging

I just talked to those guys yesterday
Their ballast prices were decent. Have you had any issues with that ballast? How long has it been in operation?
Thanks

I found them used on ebay. They've been in operation less than a month. Couldn't get the dimming feature to work but I really don't care about that. A dozen 3 week old seedlings are thriving. So far, so good.

Starting to wonder if it was a big mistake ordering from Thomas at advance
. He tells me we shipping on time !! usually one to two days. I ordered lMonday. I told him on Sat oir Sun I would order monday. I didnr see an email he shot me back sayin I should order on the weekend and he would shop monday because it gets a bit hecktic after that. So I shoot him an email on Wed. telling him sorry I could not order til Monday that I had to put money in my account. He says no worry we actually started boxing all single orders in order to get them out of the way then will get the multi orders out. And he said we are actually a head of the game. Just waiting to print labels. Unless he does not send tracking he still has not shipped. Im wondering if he has a chip on his shoulder because i didnt order when he said I should. its a shame it should have been here by now. I ordered the fricken converter two days later and its already hear. That's a shame I told him I would order the first and I need asap because I had a balklast go down and am thinking on converting to four of his lights and would order then from him over the next few months. But Im NOT one to play games my money means alot to me when Im a poor son of a bitch. probably going to just take a hit and purchase the rest from cycloptics ballast. I figured I would feel a bit sorry for him and his health issues , as I have been through and beat cancer and am struggling with a lot of physical issues. But the buck stops here when you tell me your shipping in a day or two. What do I have to do wait til next Monday for it to ship? I always thought you send the shit out in the order you get the orders. At least thats how I would roll . I used to sell on the bay and that was a priorty of mine keep the customer happy and get the shit out the door!!! Just a heads up to let you how my deal is going down with Mr Thomas from Advanced. And if he sent it and he failed to notify me well thats his own damn fault. glad i use paypal.

Hi lads.

I currently have one of the UK's maxibright 315w CMH kits with the Philips MASTERColour CDM-TMW Elite. The ballast is phillips just re-housed I'm not sure if you've seen them?

On my last crop, I had one between 2 600w Gavitas - the buds under the CMH were a lot denser, more resin laden and best of all the high was a lot more complex - the HPS buds were very downy and boring, where as the CMH buds had a bit more up about them that got my gums flapping a bit.

I've read this thread back to back a few times now, and I'm still umming and arring about whether to drop the money on 3 more of these units to make that up to 4, total 1260w so not far off a normal 1200w set up.

The space I have is 120 x 240 x 200 cm, I suppose my questions are is four lamps adeqeute, and can I expect to atleast hit the same as I would from 2 600? Or more?

Cheers.
