Ah, thanks to both of you, Avenger and Jhhnn. I'd read the max temps in the pdf for my lamp, but hadn't come across those pdfs.

I guess i'm a little antsy/paranoid, hehe... Smooth sailing so far, i don't want to overlook anything. "CDM lamps have no special requirements regarding ambient temperature" is good to read.

Kit got here about an hour ago. Haven't busted it out, still setting up the rest of the tent/hardware which arrived this morning as well.

Thanks again !

Hey there, Scrappy. What distance from bulb to leaves are you seeing this?

Happened twice for me. Cycloptics hood. First time was in a 3x3x7 tent with the light mounted at the top, plants on the floor. Anything over 20 inches tall got burned, so I'd say maybe 3 1/2 - 4 feet. I think having the walls so close to the unit was a factor because everything along the walls had more damage.

Second time the plants were on a table about 2 feet below the unit but off to the side about 3 feet away.

I took them off the table and had them about 3 1/2 feet below the hood in a 5x5 space and they all recovered but I lost some of my stretch. This was during flower.

This is a pic a couple weeks later. It's a 5x5 space. The plants were elevated against the right wall before I put them underneath.

Shortly after this pic I lowered the light down tp about 2 ft above the canopy.

If they're coming from low powered lights they just need to be hardened off. If they were under these from the start I doubt there would have been an issue.

It really says something about the light intensity when plants need to be hardened off like they're going outdoors, huh?

I can hardly wait. This batch is scheduled to complete Aug 1, give or take so the 315's will go into operation shortly thereafter.

Combined with the soil mix & blumats that Eighths-n-aces turned me on to, I may finally get this dialed in.

Thanks, Scrappy. Good to know.

My plan will be to eventually veg all plants to be flowered under 315s, so this is key information. A dimming feature on the ballast could be really helpful for this sort of thing. Nice looking garden btw. :tiphat:

Yeah these lights are no joke. There was a noticeable difference going from my 1k hps to 3 cdm lights. The lights are more intense but with less heat. I usually work in the garden with the lights on and it took some getting used to with these because you can feel the intensity on your skin. I had to take breaks after working for a little while because I could feel the beginnings of a sunburn coming on.

And with the cycloptics hoods you get a ton of coverage. Like I said that was a 5x5 space. Right next to it is another 5x5 space where I had 2 of them and at 2' away it was a bit too much for the plants. Now I have one over each 5x5 and one in the middle, so at under 1k I am now covering twice as much space as with the hps.

Also I am using 2 942's and 1 930 in the middle. The 930 is noticeably brighter than the 942's.

Yeah I'm using the welthink ballasts which don't have a dimming feature. I wish they did.

I had some pics of what the lights did to my plants when I first brought them in but I erased all the pics from my computer when I had a security scare.

There was another member who posted in this thread a while ago wondering if his lights were too close, and he posted up some pics. They look exactly like what happened to mine the first time in the 3x3 tent.

I got into an argument in my thread about this because one guy said it looks like overwatering. I know in my case it wasn't overwatering but it's possible this person overwatered, but my plants looked just like that after putting them under these after starting off under cfl's.

This is the post from this thread I'm referring to.

I'd be interested to find out what became of that guys plants. I ended up taking the light out of the tent and putting the cfl's and T5 back in, and it took over a month for some of them to recover. I had to cut a lot of the tops off because they were crispy and wouldn't grow.

Just wanted to post this up in case anyone else new to these has this happen to them.

Strange, but it looks like over watering to me as well. Hard to believe a low wattage light source would do any damage, especially when mine have never been healthier under the Agro. Maybe the CFLs were too low intensity and the plants just couldn't handle the change. Then again I've also moved plants from under CFLs and PL-Ls, even sensitive chili pepper strains and they always exploded into growth.

It sounds like the CFL's are the culprit - I use either PL-L's or LEDs for vegging and have never had a problem with the transition.

Well from that drooping picture it can be a number of things over watering , root bound , over heating room just to hot like my room exhaust failure and what 18 hrs of 90 degree heat looks like :) also a plant just watered and drooped cold temps also droop plants so its lots of things that can cause droop and 99 percent of the time its cause of root zone temps :dance013:

I paid 760$ that's with tax.

To add this is the 120v system witch is more expensive. 240v is prob 700$?... This is the cheapest I have found anywhere even online witch is normally the cheapest route. Online these are 850$+

Yeah well it could have been any of those hopefully if that member reads that post he can chime in with what became of those plants in the pics. I am gonna do an experiment after I finish putting my outdoor plants in the ground. I'll probably have a couple extras which are under t5's and I'll put them under the 315's and see if it happens again.

I was going to grab some spare bulbs but not sure why some are so much more in price.
Both of these are 315w 1 is 3k the other is 3100k..Does anyone know why such a big price jump. Is the 1 for 50$ junk?Witch is the correct 3100k bulb to use. The 1 for170$ I'm assuming that's just a huge price markup. I found the same bulb at HD for 66$.

You would want the $85 lamp, however, that looks like the normal 930, while you would want the "Agro" version, now called "Greenpower."

However, rives or Jhhnn may correct what I wrote above, if for example, that $85 lamp is indeed the Agro but just not listed as such by that seller, or if the single envelope lamp ($50) is okay for your SunSystem fixture (due to its glass shield).
