Anyone have a Philips 942 t9 bulb burn out on them yet? Had 1 shit the bed on me 3 days ago. It ONLY be used for 9 months at 18/6, with at least 2 weeks shut off at various times in that 9 months.

I tested this bulb on 6 ballasts, and it never fired up.

My box says 20k for the t12 Philips 942, and 30k for the t9 942. I have 14 t9s and 2x t12 942s. 8x 930 t12 Philips bulbs on hand.

Hey Hammerhead! I'm not sure what kind of reflector your using but if your running the bulb in a horizontal position it has limitations on how the bulb can be moved around. I wanted to post this a while back but never got around to it. From the Phillips web site below and also inside the packaging of a new bulb i got in very small writing.

If a lamp is burned in a horizontal position, a rotation of the lamp over more than 90 degrees around the lamp axis in sockets can increase the risk that the arc tube will rupture. This holds during operation as well as after a cooling period after switching off the lamp. If one wishes to rotate the lamp over more than 90° around the lamp axis, one should do so in steps of less than 90° and let the lamp burn for at least 2 hours between steps.

I've completely disregarded this and have used and moved my bulb several times. I wouldn't be using the bulb if it didn't have that extra protection on it. I say who cares the bulbs have a built in failure rate; it can't be that bad haven't really heard much about them failing regularly. This could be your problem though.

630w test room. Around day 25. Right side is within 6" of the reflector. Left side is 12 to 18" from reflector. Surprisingly low stress from the 6" side so far.

Looking great so far. GG#4?

Am I seeing three lights or is that a mirror? How big is the tent?

8x8, 4 630w phillips 3100's. Its mirror reflector, supposed to be 98%...

Strain of close up is likely Chem berry D from dark horse. It could also be Golden Pearl 4, my cross of silver pearl/g13 x sour d ibl. Ive also got a large purple kush, and my crosses of sour lady, n sp/g13 x whitaker blues in there.

Heres a better shot of the overall tent. Also a few posts back I show some pics of the tent after the first screen.

4 x 630w (40w/square foot) seems to be a perfect amount of light for that space.

Not following this at all.

All PGZ or mogul base bulbs should be removed by the base. I have 12 of these hoods not all are the same. Growers choice, Phantom, Sun Systems.

All my open 315w bulb hoods are keyed for pgzx18. They will only go in 1 way. I can remove any of these bulbs by the base. Horizontal or vertical. I don't remove my bulbs when hot.

I havn't had any issues with failing 315w bulbs?

I like the DE. It was just easier to have all the same bulb types in flower and all the same bulb types in veg. I don't expect to see any difference

I just found out that Sun Systems is now making a 315 CMH magnetic ballast. (link below) I'm sure all of you have known this for some time, I may be a little late to the ball game! I'm wondering if any of you have used or have an opinion on them?

I just checked those out cheap enough. I'm not an electrical engineer but I don't think analog ballasts can do square wave
Link?

@rives...

I got a new 8 light controller.. I'm using 6 630w cmh lights on it. It has 8 timed outlets @240v. 2 120v outlets 1 is constant 1 is trimmed.. The trimmed 120v is for my air intake.

Question can I use that constant 120v outlet for a 630w light 6amps? I want to plug in my veg light which is on 24/7 to it. I think its fine but wanted to get ur input.

Hammerhead your 6 630's are using ~17 amps the veg light will use the line neutral and one of the hots at ~6 amps

As long as your breaker is 40a+ you should be fine

Max wattage it can handle
240v = 8000w
120v=4000w

It's on its own 50a breaker. I can only use 80% of its capacity. I'm using about 18a for the 6 240v lights. Air intake is a 10" inline fan 2a?. I should have more than enough for another 10a. It will be about 30 amps used.
