Im about ready to get a couple of these lights. I have a 5x5 now but am flip flopping on getting 2 3x3 tents and stagger them for 4-5 weeks or a single 6x4 with two 315s. Each side has its benefits.

Would anyone know of a good tutorial where I can learn how to wire the eVision ballasts? Id much rather do this than go out and buy prism or phantom ballasts (ive heard they arent very reliable)

Any reviews on the prisms?

Growers Choice 630W DE Double Ended CMH Ceramic MH Lamp 3100K

True DE 630W Double Ended Ceramic Metal Halide Grow Lamp. This lamp had precision gasses for enhanced spectral output, and generates less heat than HPS and MH. This lamp also matches sunlight very closely compared to many other lighting solutions available. Also available in 4200K, and Single Ended 315W versions, see related products below. Use with a 1000w high frequency digital ballast dimmed down to 600w. These bulbs are not compatible with Gavita 6/750w DE Complete Fixtures.

I'll be upgrading to the 315w CMH for my new cabinet and was considering reflector options the space will be 100cm X 70cm X 170cm high. I grow pure sativas straight from rooted clones at 25cm spacings, six in the box, SOG style. I want as much head room as possible. What sort of distance would I need to keep an air cooled Phantom reflector from the tops in order to get a good spread? Would you get a better spread at a shorter distance with a conventional horizontal cool tube?

prism ballast are solid. I have 2 no issues. Phantom has quality issues. had 2 arrive defective. Had to send back. Philips Advance e-Vision ballasts are the best quality ballast on the market for 315 right now. Only runs off 200-277V input.. You cant use 120v without a transformer.

i've been vegging out in two tents while i get ready for the first flip in this new garden.

one tent has the philips 4200K (veg) and the other has the 3100k (flower) bulb.

the plants under the 4200k are outpacing the others (no surprise), but in addition, the ones under the 3100k are showing weird deficiencies.

compounding factors are lower humidity in the flower tent.

the contrast is drastic enough that i'm wondering if i should swap out the 3100s and flower under the 4100k's?

anyone else experiencing anything similar?

I remember someone mentioning 31's spectrum was not very good for growing, at least on the 630s.

Anybody else have foxtailing issues with CMH lights?
I find that if I let the plant go too long under the CMH lights, foxtailing becomes an issue.

I saw a little. I cant attribute it to CMH yet. Only 1 plant did it she had other issues that could have done it.

I was using both 932/942 to flower the 1st few runs. I saw no issues. I now have 1 DE 4200 in there. Will see what happens. No deficiency's at all at this point. 2-3 weeks flower. The DE 3100 have a weird spectrum. DE 4200 are good. I don't think the Phillips Bulbs have any spectrum issues.

yeah, I believe that other factors are in play, but for some reason the CMH seems to make them more noticible. Maybe its just because its a better spectrum, they grow in the foxtail direction faster.

I replaced a 400w hps in a little veg closet with a 315 cmh & 4200 bulb. After 1 hour all the plants are praying to the light singing Holy shit, Holy shit. I'm impressed to say the least:biggrin:

Yes and no.

If a strain is more likely to foxtail, then CMH can cause it to do that. Just my opinion. But I have run roughly 8 strains under the light (so far) and some have foxtails and some dont in perpetual.

For example, black lime reserve, no foxtails. Easy 10 weeks. GG4 hybrid, (Loctite) Yes, some tiny ones at 10. Sherbert, no foxtails, just rock hard nuggets with no pk booster.

315 CMH 3100K.

I might switch to 4K..

Hiya Heady - My MH7 and MH8 were both vegged under my 315 4200 fixture in a 3x3. I'm getting ready for my next run so i don't have much experience but i had a lot of growth and stretch with the 4200. I don't know that it produces "stretch" as much as it produces "growth" that can be stretch if you don't manage the plants. in my current case i had vacation etc.. and i raised the light while i was away which of course doesn't stop stretch but the opposite...

Sooo tad early for me to say but the 4200 can certainly veg well. I'm going to add 2x fixtures to my gavita 1000e in flower but haven't decided on 3100 or 4200. it would seem to me that 4200 with 1000e DE would make more sense though.

If i were to put 2 315's in a 5x5 tent, is either the 3100 or 4200 a good all around bulb as far as veg and flower? Would 1 of each be better or not recommended?

I have no experience w/ the 4200 but two 3100's do a great job in a 4x4 space. I only went that way because the 3100's were cheaper at the time. I doubt there's much difference.
