Unless you're running the t-9's open(stupid), what's the real difference between another layer of glass around the bulb or a pane of glass on the bottom of the reflector? The outer jacket on a t-12 is certainly thinner than the pane of glass that comes with the air-cooling kit I bought for the phantom.

Allegedly the phantom hood itself will be here by mid week, so hopefully I'll have some PAR measurements up by the end of the week.

looks like they are bringing some DE technology into the cmh market … these guys have just started selling in Canada:

Not a lot of info at the moment, but if a couple are doing it … I'm guessing there will be many more.:)

Thats interesting for sure, but still a 315w lamp.

A local hydro shop is pushing a 630 DE ceramic metal halide that fits gavita and acde hoods. The bulb is from Growers Choice.

You have a link for this 630 DE fixture/lamp? I can't find it anywhere.

"Contains precision gasses..."

Let me guess on the origin of these lamps.....

Should be interesting to see how they work out. It's interesting that they will apparently work on high frequency ballasts.

Do you guys think it would be superior to anything on the market currently in regards to growroom lighting? It seems that they would have to be used in enclosed fixtures, and the longevity of such bulbs (20k hours) is suspect...

Just wondering.

As far as I know DE bulbs dont need an enclosed fixture. They should not be cooled directly. 20k hrs is very good. The only thing that was on the market was those Solistek MH DE bulbs. Those had a horrible life span..

Thanks for that:tiphat:. First thing that jumped out at me was the #'s. This bulb offers far less ppf/w than a 930agro. This de bulb is rated @1010umol & 630w, this gives 1.6umol/w compared to 1.9 for the 930. thats's significant. Also looks to have a lot more green than the 930 too. Just my:2cents:

So would you guys say this bulb is bad or?

I have to replace 4k in DE lamps for the summer and it will be these bulbs or LED's...

LED's will just cost too much for me, so these sound really good to my wallet...

It would appear that watt for watt, the 930 is a better bulb. I suspect this bulb is made in china, and I'd want any performance claims verified by independent testing before I spent my $$. Does it run on a standard gavita 600/750w de fixture/ballast? If so, how do you set it to 630w? What if you set the ballast at 750 or 825w? What about 400w? Same questions if it runs on a 1000w. Looks a little sketchy without more info. There will be a lot of snake oil salesmen jumping on the cmh bandwagon unfortunately. I'm sticking with my greenbeams till something demonstrably superior, and equally practical comes along. Besides, for what they cost, it will be awhile before I could do anything else, even if I wanted to.

No idea as to whether they are good or bad, Krunch.

Just from the numbers and the write-up, they sound like a Chinese knock-off to me. There have been numerous offshore copies of the Philips lamps, but as far as I know, they haven't worked out well. The ability to use ballasts that aren't low frequency is a new development - supposedly the 315's will rattle apart at high frequencies. They might be great, but.....
