I am pretty sure an aquaponics system would qualify as almost no waste, and I don't think better than that can be achieved. But it's so hard and costly to set it up for small scale, it only makes sense when you have a big system.

I can get a used aquarium for just a few dollars.

I can put a platform in the aquarium to keep my plant submerged about 2 inches, with fish that I catch from the river swimming about below.

I could place the aquarium on my window sill with the 🪴 perched in the aquarium just below the water line.

Total cost $$??

Maybe $25,,

Total cost of damages when the aquarium falls off the window sill and smashes on the floor??

Priceless!!
lol 😁

I could buy all three.

One for the fish.
One for the plant.
And one for the new Dragon in his den,..

All for $70,..

Or, I could sober up and not buy any stupid shit. Lol 😁

I will wait till morning.
Maybe until spring.
Maybe I'll wait forever. Lol

So my question is,.. did they actually lose the damn fish, or did it die??,,.

If they actually lost the fish, then I have no sympathy for them.

If it's in a damn aquarium, then where the hell is it going to go??
lol 😁

Btw, I met with a buddy of mine that has a lot of aquariums and he told me almost nothing will be happy under ph 6.5, some don't even like ph 7, so your aquaponics dream is not going so well. Also, fish get sick fast or die as soon as conditions are not good, he says. So you would have a very slow start, you would have to cicle the media and system with no fish at first for a while, then add fish and they would only be able to sustain only a small number of small plants at first, till proper bacteria grows and system gets in some kind of equilibrium. Not an easy job, even for a pro.

I've decided that I don't want to mess with my closet because everything in there is working well for me, and I don't think that I want to put an aquarium on my window sill because that's just asking for trouble, but I could buy an aquarium and just put some goldfish 🐠 and a plant in it.

I have a bunch of LED strips and another power supply to use to light things up.

I'm not looking to have a self sustaining environment, I just want to see if a plant and some goldfish can live together in an aquarium.

Goldfish (carp) are really tough fish that can put up with a lot of crap.
They can live in 5% salt water (50,000 PPM) so I'm sure that I can nute the water to around 800 PPM with my fertilizer.
I'm pretty sure that I can feed the fish their fish food without it disturbing the plant.

I'm not trying to find a new and better way to grow a plant or fish, I just want to see what happens if I put the two together in an aquarium.

I am pretty sure salt there means actual salt. And not.. salts. Your mileage may vary! Maybe try more fish and a small plant.. and dont add any nutes, just try to feed the fish right and see if with time you have nutes in there.
Another simple way to use an aquarium is to take the water from the regular water changes and water plants with it. I would do half and half with feed just to make sure i got some balanced nutrition in there. But this is a nice way to use the fish waste without risking to harm the fish. I would say its more humane and logical than adding ferts to aquariums and hoping fish can take it. This is what that aquarium guy recomended.. if you gotta do something with that aquarium and plants, use the water from it to water your plants. But you still gotta make sure you have a proper aquarium and not overfeeding and all that. So be sure for extra work if you get new hobby.

I'm going to think about it for a while.

I don't know how much I want a new hobby. It will surely end up taking more time, effort, and money than I'm expecting.
Perhaps just a small aquarium with no fish to use as a container for the plant and the water ?

The closet plant looks great.
She has greened right up and doesn't show any signs of deficiency any more.

I did bleach a couple of leaves with the foliar, but that's not a big deal.
