I've got new seeds on the way.

Feminized Autoflower Candy Cane.

This was the email I got.

"We shipped your order. You can expect it in about 10 to 15 business days.

Your order was shipped in a Bubble Envelope.

We guarantee a minimum of 80% germination success rate if you use the cup of water + paper towel method. Find the link below for the step-by-step guide:

https://www.cropkingseeds.ca/germination/

To germinate seeds always do the following and you will get 80%+.

-Place in a cup of water for 15 hours. Sink them to the bottom with your finger.
-After 15 hours (cracked or not cracked), remove and put them between folded paper towel on a plate. Add water but do not drown the seeds. They should be touching moisture, air and warmth at the same time.
-Apply water when the paper towel starts drying out. Wait 2 to 7 days and plant directly the 3/4 inch or 2cm tap root directly into soil.

DO NOT: Cover plate with another plate or anything like a zip lock bag as this traps in cold air and does not allow seeds to breathe.

DO NOT: Use peat pellets or rock wool as they do not provide enough moisture.

The germination process sounds really important so I'm going to stick with what I've been doing.

One thing I didn't do was sink the seed in water for 15 hours so I'm going to fill my shot glass with water first then dump out the excess after 15 hours.

I'm thinking it softens the shell/seed casing so the plant can break free of it easier.

Another thing I want to clarify is that I don't completely cover the shot glass.
I hang the lip of the mug over the edge of the fridge.
The fridge fan blows air past the mug.

When it's cold out I put the shot glass in the rafters near the furnace and hang the mug over the edge of the 2X4's.

I Found My Brewers Yeast !!

I've had it for 5-7 years and don't know if it's still viable ?

I'm thinking of throwing it all into my next soil mix.
I figure it might not "take" but then it's just food for my plant and micro herd ?

If anyone thinks that this is a bad idea, please let me know before I kill another plant !! Lol

That seems excessively complicated. Try this instead..

Soak seeds 12 to 24 hours in water. Fill party cup (with holes in bottom) 2/3 full with nutrient rich potting mix, and top the rest of the way with Jiffy seedling mix. Place seed 1/2 inch deep in party cup. Keep moist for a week and wait. Let seedling grow a couple weeks and transplant.

That seems excessively complicated.

Not for me... I'm used to it.
I've had a 100% success rate and it happens fast. 2-3 days. So I can watch it happen.
I feel it's worth it.

Soak seeds 12 to 24 hours in water.

That much I can do.
I have an egg timer and an alarm clock.

... and top the rest of the way with Jiffy seedling mix.

It's only $8 locally.
I will consider getting some.
It's only $8.

Place seed 1/2 inch deep in party cup.

I'm gonna put it directly in my cooler.

I'll dig a hole and fill it with the seedling mix then plant the sprouted seed.

Keep moist for a week and wait.

Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Lol 😆

I'll flood it and dig it up every day. Lol 😆

Let seedling grow a couple of weeks and transplant.

I don't like to transplant.
That's when I tend to kill stuff.
... and apparently, Autoflowers don't take as well to transplanting.
They grow their roots straight down.

I thought I'd pose my cat with my Christmas/cannabis tree.

The tree is really tiny though... Lol 😆

Don't worry, both girls survived the photo shoot.

Sounds to me like you want a Sub Irrigated Planter (SIP). There are lots of DIY instructions on the web. Check them out. :good:

I've got 10 L of clay pellets coming before New Year's...

I think I want ~4" if pellets, ?

I hate the web!! It just spins me in circles...

But I think I do want an anaerobic air gap, ...

Thanks for the help. :)

Since I had to give up my Rapid Rooters, I’ve been snake bit with my attempts at germinating seeds. When I made the transition to my Swick system, I found the Rapid Rooters were holding excessive moisture and causing stem rot. Only killed 4 plants before I came to this realization! The Jiffy mix looks like it might be a viable option. Thanx.

I was kinda hoping she'd stomp on the plant. Lol

Then I can start over with my new lights, SIP setup, and seeds.

Oh well, I guess I'll grow it out. Lol

So I got off my lazy arse and Googled some SIP setups.

I guess I was on the right track.

The second video mentions "wicking media".

I may add some rope or twine to help it wick.

I guess it was my lack of airspace that was causing my problems.

Thanks again, Reiko.

I didn't know what it was I was trying to build. Lol

My plant is 4 weeks and 2 days old but only ~2" tall.

I dunno?
It's cooler, drier, on 12/12 light cycle and I planted the seed right in the old root system.

It looks healthy enough though.

I also put 1/2 cup of my "serum" into 1/2 a gallon of water and poured a bit on the plant and the rest down the filler pipe.

I just left the "cheese" in the jar and put it in the fridge.

I actually took a few sips of the juice and it wasn't too bad.
It didn't upset my gut and it seemed to help my digestion a bit.

Apparently, the only problem with an "overdose" is bloating and gas.
It's true! I've been blowing off a lot of cheese-flavored farts. Lol 😆
