My current project

I mostly am on the GC forums, but when I saw this thread, I had to post this. I am a fellow micro grower with a 50 watt led setup in a full tower case. I've got pics of the setup, last season's flowering pics, and this season's clones of that plant. The clones shot was just taken today.

Rest of my grow show can be seen here.

How do you guys hook up the fans w/out a motherboard? I'm assuming u used an old cpu fan, yea? I got an old case, a power supply, a case exhaust fan and a cpu fan that i wanna turn into a drying box, does anyone have any ideas as to how to hook up the two fans to the power supply? Also, If I'n not worried about the smell, is there anything else i need to include in my design? (If this works out i might create a pc grow case for my clones.. like an intensive care unit :p.)

I'm using a 12volt cell phone charger.

Hiya guys. Bringing pictures of my latest attempt. this is directly from my grow thread located Here.

Ok I upgraded to 87W of CFL and just put them on 12/12 lastnight. Hope I get at least 2 females this time.

I had some issues with heat when I put in the extra 42W. its much hotter than my 45W and noticeable brighter. I'm guessing this is due to the 45W bulb's age. But anyway here are the pics, I got them about 4" from the lights. They are short due to LST.

But how do you hook them up to each other? Sorry, I'm a lil bit of a tard when it comes to this sorta stuff. My fans have one of those four pin things that you just plug into a motherboard.

Cut the 4 pin connector off, get 2 VERY small wire nuts and some electrical tape. After cutting off the 4 pin connector you should have 2 wires 1red 1black then cut the connector off of the cell phone charger and separate the 2 wires. these are normally not color coded so you will have to do a trial and error test run to figure out which connection will power the fan. When you do your your test run it is a good idea to wire nut the connections. Even though it's only 12 volt it still has a sharp tickle to it.

Thank you wallfisher and AcroPhobic for great info, I successfully hooked up the fans inside and hid the wires in the sides to make it all nice and neat when i hang my buds in there. Now i just gotta figure a way to close the pc up from the back cos there's lots of holes where the old VGA card, ethernet card, etc used to be.

Those are some nice plants , Sinxar. Best thing i've seen come out of a coffee bucket :D.
Good Luck!

Nice lst keepin em low sinxar. You can get lights almost right on top of plants.

Menthakush : no prob, those links helped me also. Take some carboard and duct-tape holes in back of pc.

Here's those rooted clones from before vegged out n fillin out pc lovely. I just took 12 clones from plants and will leave plants in pc for few more days then transplant into 2gallon pots outside to root n start flowering :)

Here's my PC veg case, witch will hold two bonsai mothers soon.

This is the case the first time I set it up, as you can see I was in a hurry and it was not fully gutted. The plants were 4 malana's and 2 mazar-i-sharif. They were under a 23 watt 6400k CFL.

Here's the case when I gutted it finally. I removed the foil a couple of weeks ago as it's garbage.

This pic was from a few weeks ago right after re-pot. I had them in small 2 inch pots and forgot to water them for 5 days, they didn't look so good. Two of these were going to be my bonsai moms, but 2 out of three ended up being male so I only got one female. I also have another 3 seedlings growing in there now hopefully so I can get one more female for a mom. No pics of that yet (this pic is one month old). The bulb was changed to a 42 watt cfl also.

I'll get some better recent pics up tomorrow sometime :)

whats up everyone? thought id share my pc box, its still a work in progress. im havin a few problems, mostly with freakin heat. any input or ideas would be great. the box is 15" H x 16" L x 8" W. i have four 26 watt cfls (2 6500k & 2 2700k). for ventilation i have 2 80mm fans and a smaller 60mm or 70mm??? not sure of the cfm of each fan. for intake i started with a 3.5x3 covered with scrubninjas light vent. the temp of the room that the case is in is 77* and my box with lights on runs between 86* to 90*. do my fans suck?? should i remove a cfl??

i still need to secure the devider that holds the fans with foil tape and do sum light proofing but i wanna try n get the temps down before i put everything in its final place...

The pics dont show up mate, will be good to see them.
Is your termometer on shaded place or in direct light, couse readings get crazy on direct light? I would try to remove the intake fan couse with passive intake is a bit easyer.

P.S would be great to see the pics

I'd ditch the intake fan and go with a passive intake.

My pc has two 32watt cfls in it with 2 standard pc fans for exhaust with passive intake which is twice the area as exhaust and temp stays 74-78 depending on ambient room temp (72-76)

I'm looking at fans/exhaust and intake, and your intake should be at least 2x larger than exhaust fan area. 3x is better.
What's dimensions of all exhaust fans together?
