Everybody is familiar with the romanticized tales of bagseed glory pops or the hermaphroditicly inclined divine intervention which brought us the likes of Chem, OG, Bubba, Glue, and Cookies… But what about intentionally crafted pairings?

Of the countless packs of beans sold over the past two decades, where are all the decidedly great cuts?

Should be interesting to compile a list…

How about…

Seed Junky: Wedding Cake (Triangle Mints 23) and Kushmints (Rabid Hippie Cut)

Mamiko: Chem Cookies (GMO)

You described 'unstabilized poly-hybrid' x 'unstabilized poly-hybrid'.
That's pollen-chucking, not breeding.
50 plants each, of 2 in-breed lines, cross them, grow out all those beans, label them, take cuts, then grow out the off-spring (progeny testing).
If 'they' aren't progeny testing, they aren't breeding, they are chucking :tiphat:

It may be 20/seed but the amount of freebies drastically reduces that number. Also I have not heard of too many people getting intersex traits in Caleb's releases.
My last order from CSI, they 'doubled' my order AND threw in some extras. I have plenty of their beans.
It's the IBL's that interest me...

Ripper Seeds: Zombie Kush
"Sideral" cut (Amnesia Haze X Lavender Kush) X Bubba Kush

From the selection of one of our first genetic search works, an ancient lavender kush clone was pollinated by our brilliant Amnesia. From there, a clone we named “Sideral” was selected and later we decided to pollinate again with our bubba kush.

I’m not trying to define intentional breeding… More so attempting to quantify how many top tier cuts have come from commercially available seed packs.

Most of those are poly-hybrid pollen chucks.

The 1st question that comes to mind is which bubba.
So Ripper Seeds 'selected' 1 clone and named it 'Sideral', then hit it with a 'bubba'(that had to be reversed-bubba was/is a female without chemical enhancement). Picking 'Sideral' seems to be the only 'selection' they did.
From that cross came 'Zomie Kush'. I wonder how much progeny testing they did before they started selling seeds.
I'm not saying they are pollen-chuckers, but they 'sound' like pollen-chuckers.

Plenty of great plants come out of 'commercially available seed packs.'
I put 5 into circulation that were well-received. It's a numbers game. Unless I'm 'breeding'(that'll be an open pollination of at least 10 beans), I pull males as soon as they show and cull females ruthlessly. Almost anything will make me cull, poor structure, pest anti-resistance, etc... Then you evaluate.

I was up to #78 when I stop keeping notes. I found a keeper in a 10-pack of Island Sweet Skunk, lost her and went through 50 seeds and didn't find anything like her. There are cuts people still talk about: Calio by A77, Ray Davies C99, Old Sog's SSH, that 'cherry' AK47, Ghost and Katsu passing around those Kush cuts. Then all the chems and cookies...

Dan, pop some beans, preferably 'regular' and start looking for mothers...

I think a really interesting thing to do is to trace the lineages of the cuts we come up with and see if there is a genepool that seems to be pumping out more of these "keepers" than others. That data can definitely be useful in future breeding projects for some.
