Dr Dog..Sounds like a porno movie.."Nugs In Space" ..hehe..I used a thin black polyester blanket..anyway it's velvet like on one side..
I've used black T-shirts in the past..but the weave shows up sometimes..
Second I use low lighting..no flash..if the light is at a side or cross angle to the camera..shadows get created and a 3D effect takes place..
To get a better focal range I'll increase the f-stop a bit..which means I've got to extend the shutter open time a bit with it..or the pic will be too dark..
I don't like going beyond 1/2 a second or the pic gets noisy..tripod is a must..nothing can move at all..so I use the timer to take the pic..
I usually use manual focus too..If I let the camera take the pic in total auto mode..it will choose totally different settings..
This is an old 99' Olympus 3030 Zoom..when 3.2MP was huge..hehe..

I have this spot to take pics..using sunlight bounced off a wall..this helped me figure out how to get depth into the pics..
I'll show the last two I shot there in that spot..I'm usually not home at that time of day..but when I am..that's when I try to take pics these days..

4 plants total are cleared for take off..all in cups..3 GD originals..1 Alfa..looks like the GD seed with the broken tail is going to make it..
All the GD seeds are growing..which was the most important thing..
I decided to drop 3 more alfa seeds..last night..and put them in rooters this morning..I wanna see if they can catch the other plants..I've been at least letting them crack in paper towels..this is the 1st time Ive tried um straight soak-to-rooter..I got a feeling this is a better way..the roots go right to work and a low chance of handling damage..

I'll get in a pic of the little ones sooner or later..I let them sit in the rain a little today..just a little treat..they needed water anyway..

So enjoy this intermission..The last two pics I took from the last grow..

I topped the plants once in early growth as soon as there was enough to cut and let them go from there..the object was to get balanced twin kolas..
Did this a la GMT..worked good too..

Cool tips man, I am goin to use them in my next pics, I am rocking an olympus too, but it is a 7.2 with super macro, I love some of the pics it takes, I find with me and my shaky ass hands I need to use the tripod

I had a first today that made me giggle like a schoolgirl..let me get to that in a second after the mailbag..

USAH..Thanks man..I'm just an amateur photog..anything I do with the camera is by trial and error..lighting and focus are the key..
I now see why model photogs doing an outdoor photo shoot..usually will shoot from sunrise to maybe 8AM..then that's it the rest of the day is shot..
Too much light is worse than not enough..especially with bud shots..trichs reflect too much..
so if the light is coming from the same direction as the camera..it reflects back at the camera..making stars on the trich's and washing the pic..
but if light comes from the side..they seem to glow instead..
Enough teach..me smoke now..

Check this out..I had one Alfa BD that didn't germ..so curiously I pinched it like a sunflower seed with my nails till it cracked open..
I pulled one half of the shell off and took a look under the hood..seemed viable..maybe it just couldn't crack the shell..
So leaving one half of the shell off..I put it back in the rooter last night..today I got a new plant already with true leaves begining..
I'm stoked..it got me wondering..if I could crack a fresh seed and put it in the rooter and get a seedling in one day

I'm gonna put her in a cup right now..then maybe a family photo..

Definitely get the tripod..clicking the camera..even on the tripod..is enough to screw up a slow shutter pic..
With buds it has to be a still air room..I even hold my breath..Sunnside(kokua) laughed and said he does the same thing..
I've gotten dizzy takin pics..

OK got some time today and took a pic of the green part of the family..
The tallest one and the smallest one..next to each other..are the Alfa BD..
The other 3 are GD Original BubbleDust..

The smallest one is the new one I cracked open with my nails..hehe..

Great tips on the camera work too I always take my harvest bud pics with low wattage flourescent lighting I agree less is better than too much.

Anima..I was amazed it worked..I've done all sorts of things with young ones..they are survivors..
I say the younger they are the easier it is to get them to root..I took early toppings last grow..only had about 1/8" of stem to work with..
In an upside down Rapid Rooter..I got them to root..

Awhile back I decided to try and take pics a little more clean and maybe with an artsy feel..
I like clean backgrounds that allow the plant to be displayed..not lost in the background..the pics you brought up were the beginning of that quest..

Well I was gonna post yesterday..but I didn't feel well after the morning till today..feeling good today..

I've been giving life support to the seedling that had an inch(2.5cm) of tail torn off..don't ask..
I removed the shell and the membrane..to set the cotyledons free..made a hole in an upside down RR..and stuck her in..she looked rough..
Babies root so easy..I thought what the hell..now it looks like that one is going to make it too..

The new 3 Alfa BD's germed directly in the RRs..have all germed..1 has caught up with the GDS BD runt..1 opened today..and 1 is popping out today..

So I got 100% germ..1 dead and gone..the cotyledons never opened on that one..it grew into a solid ball and died..

Here's the score..3 GDS BubbleDust..6 Alfa plant BubbleDust..now I got too many!..Oh well, maybe a male or two to be culled..
I may need that new 600W earlier than expected..

I got the new veg area set-up today..the 6 oldest are under the 175W Super MH..the youngest 3 are still in the seed chamber..sharing a 20W Cool fluoro..

Maybe I can get a new pic in after this post..I have a few things left to do..so we'll see..

Stoend..Thanks man..Like everyone else I'm still learning as well..I like to do experiments constantly..hopefully these will turn out nice..

I decided just to put them all under the 175W SMH...Prepared a mix of supplements for the soil..no fert though..
Fulvic Acid, Voo Doo Juice, Piranha, Tarantula, a wee bit of Jump Start and a dash of Wet Betty..All Adv Nutes..6.3pH

78F(25C)40% RH in the grow area..

Just took a couple pics of the new set up..I took two snaps with auto-focus..nothing artsy..just showing their new home..
Lightning 97 and part of a Sunleaves reflective curtain I had set up..kinda makeshift but functional..

Dr Dog..I think most of the drama is over for now..now it's time to grow..the GDS seeds were the only ones I really cared about..
and they are doing the best overall..Thanks for stoppin in..

I'm just an amateur photog..I try to do the best with what I've figured out so far with my old limited camera..
Once in awhile, I'll crank one out that makes me smile..

I saw the sun going down..so I grabbed the camera and GDS BD #2..I like this plant best so far..
2 others are taller and more developed..but thinner stems..from my experience..so far..those usually turn out to be males in the long run..
With that I'll predict Afla BD #1 will be male..the others I won't predict yet..too young to make a fair guess..
I number them by initial progress (first to last)..

My favorite plant right now is GDS BubbleDust #2..very uniform..short fat stem..and here's a pic..
Kinda cool..the white from the cup makes it look like I tore off the edges..for a seedling..I like this pic..
