Yesterday, before sunset and taking advantage of the pleasant drop in temperatures, another little walk up my hill, from its base on the plain of the valley, dominated by the dehesa-savannah of cultivated olive trees (Olea europaea)
(I don't know what the wild flower is called...)
As soon as we ascend a bit up the hill, the cultivated olive trees will be replaced by olive trees born wild by seeds transported by animals, and by its ancestor/wild relative, the acebuche or wild olive (Olea oleaster), but above all by the main tree of these ecosystems. , both in the meadow/savannah and in the forest, the holm oak (Quercus ilex). After the last flower's pic, young oak shoots:

Plants did well with the heat. Some disease activity for sure, but its all older leaves mainly. There was a little yellowing on older leaves so went ahead and applied 1/2 rate cottonseed meal before watering. Most of the plants weren't getting yellowing leaves though.

Flowers are right on schedule, getting filled well on most of them by Sept.1.

The smell on the Cheese x Hindu Kush is getting stronger. That plant will be ripe in 2-3 weeks I think. Tried a little bit of the recently culled Cheese x Leb with root rot. It was pretty strong. still not yet dried. Still hanging in the tree drying, sweetening up!

Got plenty more, havent checked some others in few days. Battling PM, spraying 3 percent peroxide every 3 or 4 days.

A nice little break area, firepit in middle of creek.

Sweet little break spot with the fire pit. Rugged terrain out there!

Garden is looking great, everything looks lush and growing. Its hard to get them tall growing out in the woods, especially mountain areas. I start seedlings in good sunlight and I think thats the trick. If you can get the seedlings started in a really sunny spot or move them around so they are in the light for longer, they get good energy momentum going compared to partial shade started seedlings. Container grown plants are kind of like that, you can move them around for better light.

Not sure if its worth the effort at some of the plots, but I used a pole chainsaw and rope pruner to prune branches at my plot and get more light in.

Love that white widow. There are other varieties that may do better in the shade. More indica dominant phenos do best I think. Deep Chunk is known to perform in the shade and my DC hybrids do very well!

Only growing about 15% of what I did last year, not too pleased about losing some of the plants but cant fight nature. This year really dont have the time or energy to do things right sadly but I know the weathers not cooperating anyway so no loss...

Worked on giving everything a final top dressing and liquid feed before I check back up on them in about a month. The 10 day finally looks dry and sunny, would be great if the season finishes nicely but not betting the farm
Twin Turbo Diesel left and SuperBoof(Blockberry)x Life Hack x MAC right-

Tied down the real bushy cross- It was so dense and bushy and i hate pruning and defoliating. Hoping to fill in the middle and sides with the lowers, plus i'd rather the rootzone be exposed to feed better and water in the amendments-

Might have fared better on the hill... My veg is uphill of these and is struggling but no plant deaths... my soil nutrition is still working with the tomatoes because they havent spent 2 months under water... probably the last real harvest of the summer for me- wont be around for the next month.

Major hurricane Idalia set to make landfall in Florida late tonight into tomorrow morning. Storm reminants are going to be running up the east part of the US. Going to miss us thankfully. Going to be high and dry here flowering along well.

Going to put a damper on some gardens out there. Anyone having to deal with Idalia?

Hey everyone, looking good,
here’s a bit of an update on the winter breeding trials.
I got a bit of a surprise yesterday from the (Blackdogx Golden Tiger) bx3’s, when I went to have a look at the plants, some of the males are starting to show. I’ve never seen this before in the line, that I can remember and they haven’t even finished the under watering trials, in fact they haven’t been watered since the seed was planted and not one, out of about 80, has gone to point of wilt yet. There is water crystals in the mix but the available moisture in the pot would of ran out a week or two ago. The cotyledons and first leaflets are starting to dry off, on some of these but others are still completely green…..this line is getting really tough. In fact, last year when I culled off the final males, they started to shoot new growth out of the little stump that was left…..it was pretty impressive.
I’m thinking that the early flowering is probably a response to the stress stimulus, so to cull these plants out because of early flowering is probably a knee jerk reaction to the phenos. However, it could also be the morphology passd on by the particular male that produced the seed, there was three so; it might be a common trait that could be passed on down a line……only proper testing will show.
As for the two in the picture, the one next to my pinky has been a stand out from the off and has the intense stem rub and obviously under watering, I’m looking for but it hasn’t got any laterals, to check for structure or if it will survive over watering, so l guess we’ll see what happens.

As for the (Blackdog x AOG f5)bx1’s they’ve picked up with a bit of extra light and I’m glad I never culled them out a couple of weeks ago. I’ve managed to find one with the leaf morphology and stem rub I’m looking for. It’ll be interesting to see just how it grows from here on and how far l can push them through the over and under watering trials.
There’s a lot l could cull out now but I’ve decided to leave them to see what happens.
I hope the weather’s kind for you all, over the next couple of months. It’s nearly spring here so thankfully I’ve made it through another winter.
Cheers,
40.

Pine Tar Kush-- making a comeback now that its getting good sunlight! Its flowering along well now!

Deep Chunk x Blueberry--These plants in the front I was pretty sure are DC x BB but they aren't looking like the others. These don't have red petioles and the leaves are a little different. I am wondering if these are DC x LVPK x HK. The are DC hybrids of some sort it looks like with their leaf shape and plant structure.

Cheese x Hindu Kush--flowering along well, getting some royal terpenes. This one may be a keeper! :smoke:

Idalia is churning and burning, about to make landfall . Hope everyone makes it through alright and the gardens survive! Dangerous situation down there. Was talking to a neighbor's brother from Florida who came up to visit this week, and he said he had some close calls on one of the last ones. That wind tears stuff up! All his trees are gone he said.

Here the weather is below average high of 75F today with temps tonight getting down to 52F! Next week back to 90+ F Sunday and every day after that! Churning and burning. :smoke:

A friend of a friend has a wife who refuses to allow him to have an indoor grow. So he built an automated outdoor grow . . .

View attachment 18883855
It takes the inventive mind of a deep-thinking stoner to construct an elaborate setup like this. I see two timers, an automated water pump, copious wiring, relays, and autonomous nutrient dispensers. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this setup is capable of freezing passing UFOs mid-flight.
