Thanks BeaverIslander for the nice comparison between the feminized vs regular version of Orient Express. As you have experienced, the feminized version has stronger china yunnan indica influence, while the regular version usually leans more towards the vietnamese sativa phenos.

Did you flower the feminized indica pheno with an increasing photoperiod ?
This could be the reason she produced so much leaf in flowering stage.

All the best!

Nifty comparison, beaverislander;) Here's my OE fem, just showed first pistils! My indoor fem was a fatter leaved version with very nice, orange taste, good pistil/leaf ratio.

Hi friend,

Despite coming from the feminized version your new Orient Express seem to lean slightly more to the sativa side of the hybrid.

Wish you are having a great summer time! :tiphat:

Both of these plants have been outside in natural daylight (which is still almost 15 hours) although I did notice some pre-flowers on the feminized one a couple of days ago.

Hi mexcurandero420,

Our lab has just recently got the standard to detect THCV so we will learn more about the THCV content of our strains in future analysis.

Am curious what the results will be, especially the Orient Express.Saw from a Chinese strain an analyse of 5.48% THCV, but very low in THC.

The terpene profile was interesting too, because of the detection of Eugenol.Main terpene is a-Bisabolol and no Myrcene in it.

Nice, sativa leaning OE ready for flower

Nice, sativa leaning OE ready for flower

This girl's a beaut, hope she can flower decently for at least a couple of months.
Last pic is from July 3, amazing all we're looking at is 6 weeks' growth.

In my observance of the regular/sativa leaning OE, yes, it's kind of a slow start, but then it kicks in and wants to turn into a monster. Same with the flowering--not exactly the most impressive start, but it will make all the arm-sized colas you want. Couple months isn't enough. In the sense of outdoor, I tend to count flowering time from when it starts proliferating pistils, and I gave mine around ten weeks of that--it was good but I would suggest twelve.

Ace's advice to keep Nitrogen supplements going on it for around two months of flowering is also probably worth it. I don't know what happens if you don't; although the buds are fluffy, I'm guessing this is the difference between massive fluffy ones and wispy lower yield.

Hi deepwaterdude,

Indeed she is a beauty :) Really nice growth in just 6 weeks.
She obviously more on the sativa side of Orient Express hybrid, but looks more like leaning towards the China Yunnan sativa phenos rather than Vietnam Black sativa. Let's she how she evolves now in flowering :)

Hi Satyros,

Orient Express is a hungry plant, and requires high levels of NPK during growing stage and until at least mid flowering, otherwise she tends to yellowish.

Both Orient Express' regular and feminized versions contain the same Vietnam Black mother, main difference is that for producing the regular version i used a sativa leaning China Yunnan male, while for the feminized version the pollen donor was a very hashplant indica reversed China Yunnan female. So the regular version contains lesser indica genetics, both versions are very high yielding with the right feeding, producing huge colas, but the regular version produces a more spongy flowering structure, while the feminized one tends to produce denser flowers due to containing more indica genetics.

When is Thai chi gonna be back in stock, and... I'm curious which of the recommendations is the most soaring, and potent but quantifiable for us non-anxiety seekers? Is congo the most potent one you'd say?

Hi Dr Young,

This is the Orient Express thread, there's one for Thai Chi, so we can keep conversations on topic for each strain.

Anyway, if everything goes well Thai Chi will be back in stock early next year, we want to include her permanently in our catalog, along with Haze x Kali China.

Regarding your second question, it has also been put on the table several time over the years .... Bangi Haze x Ethiopian, Congo, Congo x Kali China, Ethiopian, Green Haze x Malawi, Purple Haze x Malawi, Orient Express regular, Thai Chi, Tikal .... and a few more from our R+D section which have been tested recently but they are not officially released yet. Hope it helps.

I noticed pistols a little over a week ago on the Orient Express, and a few days later the Bangi Haze. In the pictures below you can see the slightly dark green Bangi Haze (which reached about 13 feet, and the smaller Bangi Haze next to it.)

Overall the grow has been good so far. I lost one plant when the limbs started falling off every day on the biggest Bangi Haze (and it wouldn't stop). Some of the larger plants had broken limbs on the lower levels as well, but that could have been due to too much rain, or simply rapid growth of large limbs without any support. I have some concern some branches will break as the buds get heavy and branches need support (you can see the orient express has some support from the greenhouse frame embedded inside of it now.)

Considering the timing, I am hoping a early - mid October harvest at the latest.

Hey Dubi what do you think about crossing Orient express (sativa pheno) with others sativas like Panama Tikal and Congo ? Would love to give them a more friendly effect and easiest grow overall from the Orient Express.

Thank you and have a nice day

Really nice Hellgrammite00!

What a pleasure to the eye, we are talking here about trees, and not plants :)

You are right, Bangi Haze nowadays doesn't produce very strong secondary stems, her branching has become thinner after so many generations of inbreeding, and therefore more susceptible to broke down with heavy weight and strong rains.
Try to provide external support if that's the case.

On the other hand, Orient Express has a much more stronger structure and branching, holding much better the weight during strong storms and rains.

Looking forward to see your trees producing a bountiful flowering! :tiphat:

Thanks to you So Jung and Tovaritx for the nice ideas :)
I really appreciate when growers use their imagination to think of new combinations between our strains. :huggg:

Tikal and Congo have already very friendly effects and their easyness of growing and flowering times are similar to Orient Express sativa pheno.

Most of our classic strains are already very highly worked, through many breeding generations, so since 2015 i started to explore more seriously to produce new F1 hybrids between the best (or elite) parental plants of our different classic strains, although with so many strains and so many pure parental plants the permutations (all the possible mathematical combinations) produce sooooo many possibilities that is impossible to produce and explore them all in short term, but sooner or later may happen ;)

Or you can also doing them by yourself, i always encourage growers to explore combinations of our genetics which are suitable for their goals and that we haven't produced yet.
