What's new

orient express

:blowbubbles:

I thought I'd give a personal anecdote of this most interesting strain:

So far, I'm about 4-5 weeks into flower, and growing in rich organic soil (no additional nutes). My past grows have been the more common dutch genetics, so that's all I have to compare with. I have to say, I am really impressed. The leaf structure and columnar growth reveal the sativa side, but the internodes are incredibly tight. In fact, I've found this plant has virtually zero stretch (even less than any indica I've tried). In addition, ACE is not lying about yield. I'm growing it horizontally to make ample use of my lighting setup, and there are tons of branches coming up, each one shooting out multitudes of hairs at an absolutely furious pace. It's as if each branch is its own top. I've never seen such abundance and tightness on any previous strain. She's taken all sorts of training and pruning in stride. On growth characteristics alone, I highly recommend this strain, especially to indoor growers.

I'm extremely excited to see the end results and try the medicine. :tiphat:

Welcome Undomesticated :)

Thanks for the feedback, i'm glad to know Orient Express is doing well in mid flowering, she is indeed a vigorous sativa/indica hybrid that combines the high yielding vigorous traits and strong branching of the Vietnam Black with the short flowering time and denser structure of the chinese yunnan indica.

From your description, I think you probably got the 'small' sativa pheno. A very sativa expression with very tight nodes and very strong branching, this is usually the higher yielding / m2 pheno, provide her good quantity of nutrients and she will fatten up like in the Super Size Me documentary :D Please, share pics if you want or have the chance.

Kind regards! dubi

Thanks, dubi! Your description sounds very similar to what I have. It is fattening up quite nicely. I'm watching the plant, trying to determine the best time to take it down. I don't usually let mine go for very long, but I've never grown a plant quite like this. I'm thinking about 8 or so weeks. I just recently got my hands on a decent camera, so I'll try to grab some pics.

I took some pics, but I'm not able to post them at the moment for technical reasons. I will post them when I can. When I get my next order in from you (Orient Express and Violeta), I plan on keeping a picture log here on the ACE forum. I am especially looking forward to the Violeta! You guys deserve all the praise you can get, in my opinion. Great strains, and very patient customer service. Thanks, again!

I've set up a grow journal in this forum, but wanted to ask here, how long is suggested to veg these plants. It looks like they like to stretch a great deal. I remember one of the ACE strains being suggested to veg for quite a while, but I think that was NepJam? These threads are so long it is difficult to remember what was where! thanks

Those are some of the most inviting buds I've ever seen.
Are you using only fluorescent lamps?

Most of the pistils are browning, and I'm starting to see amber trichs. I think this one is about to get chopped. That would put it at about 7 weeks. This seems to be a very fast-aging one.

Any updates Undomesticated?
7 weeks is seriously fast. I have 5 fems to try, what do you reckon my chances are of getting your pheno?.

7 weeks does seem fast! That's around when I usually take down most of my heavier indicas. I was expecting it to be a little slower. Like I said before, I'm not terribly experienced with sativa-influenced plants. That's the only OE I've grown, so I'm not sure what your chances are of getting that pheno.

As far as the smoke goes, it wasn't quite what I was looking for, but I know several people who love it. The smell is very pine-y with a funky edge. The high is definitely mostly in the head, but it's very clean. I think many would consider it a decent daytime smoke. There's no couchlock going on, but the tail end is relaxing. I was hoping for a more positive (mentally) high, but it was fairly neutral for me. That's a very personal thing, obviously. It's not particularly helpful with physical issues, but I wasn't expecting it to be. All in all, I decided to let others enjoy it. I'm gonna pop some more and see what kind of differences I get with the next round!

:tiphat:

Sounds like a killer pheno you have there mate.

just popped 2 fem seeds, was yours reg or fem?.
The high sounds like what I've been searching for!. sick of the dutch genetics.

Mine was fem. I hope yours do well! It's definitely interesting to start dipping into the sativa side. I'm thinking about grabbing some Panama, Nepalese Jam, and Bangi Haze next time I get a chance.

Awesome, do you have any pics of when it was finished?.
You have to at least get Panama! my favourite strain.

Was the OE quite a yielder?

Here's a nice Orient Express individual i selected lately from the standard line.

It's the massive yielding compact sativa pheno, it takes a bit more to mature (60-65 days) than other more indica chinese dominant phenos but final yield is real huge. The other taller very dominant Vietnam Black phenos also yield a lot but they grow quite tall and can easily go to 12 weeks of flowering.

This compact sativa pheno has a great balance of sativa and indica traits, stays short and has a moderate flowering time. I also love her organic hashy vietnam black taste and motivating effect

Of couse, always organics :)

Is this outdoors? and if so would I find this pheno in standard or fem?

Hi browntrout,

You can find the small sized, high yielding sativa pheno in both versions: standard and fem. Indeed i have used a mother of this pheno for the latests standard and fem OE reproductions, but it's just one of the mothers i have used to breed Orient Express, i like to reproduce as many phenos as possible to make sure i don't lose any interesting expression on the way. Just contact me if you want seeds from this concrete pheno or any other.

I need some help with an Orient Express Fem. I purchased some Standard GT and Standard ZD and grabbed a single OE Fem as an after thought because it was available in a "Pic n Mix". So you can purchase a single seed.

Fast forward about two - three weeks and the GT's and ZD's are all about 8 inches high. Topped on their 4th node. Some of the larger fan leaves are as big as my hand. The stems are probably Pinky finger sized.

The OE is about 4 inches high. On it's second node. And looks like a 5 day old seedling. This is what happened.

The OE pops late and has very yellow Cotyledon. The first real leaves are very white. They eventually turn a light green. The next set are deformed. They look like two leaves combined into one and they are solid white. They never turned green so I cut them off. The now topped OE starts to grow like a normal topped plant but so slow. The two branches coming up are white with purple tips. They're about a quarter inch long. It's stem is still as thick as a 2 day old seedling that's stretching for the light. It's first real leaves are about an inch long and still a very light green.

The seeds were popped in Miracle Grow seed starter that I've used many times. I transferred them to 2 gallon smart pots filled with a homemade high brix type organic soil. There's no NKP in the soil. I fertilize when I water. I use Fish, Insect Frass, Molasses, Raw Milk, and occasionally Urine.

Maybe a more experienced grower would of given up and tossed the OE but I'm unsure. I'm not the type to throw ladies away. Everyone deserves a chance. I don't think it's the soil/feed/environment. I've never had a plant do this. Is it just a mutant? What do I do?
