do you apply yer perlite as needed?..what benefit would you get from perlite in the mix unless there was a plant in it?...i'm puttin together about 50 gal of mix and plan on it cookin for as long as possible.vonforne,i've read a lot of yer stuff and it's helped me considerably.thanks

I always add perlite or clay gravel. The answer I gave was in reference on how to add the lime. I will re-phrase it.

I add my Dolomite lime @ 2 TBS per gallon of soil with out the perlite and THEN add the perlite. Why would you add lime to perlite? If you add it before it increases the mix volume and thus increases the amount of lime in the mix.

thats what i thought you said and thats how i just mixed up 42 gallons....how long do you let yers cook?

Minimum of 2 weeks but my current soil sat for months.....like 5.

4 - 120 liter containers.

I am using 2 now and will transplant clones of my current strain in the other two soon.

1. I am on page 50, ARE THERE ANY PICS OF ANY PLANTS USING THESE MIXES? WTF?
So far only Toodles and 1 other person have posted any pictures of plants, and the other guy had some obvious problems. Someone just please fucking tell me that somewhere in this thread folks have actually put up some pics of their success using these mixes.

2. This is a long ass thread, but I love it. Kudos to the guy that posted the link for Peaceful Valley Organic Gardening Supply!

I use a modified Von version of LC mix of peat, coco, clay pellets, guanos, compost, EWC, humic acids, Mycorrhizal fungi with Seaweed extract. Just add water and watch them grow.

And of course 2 count them 2 TBS powdered dolomite lime per gallon of soil without the perlite.

In this grow I am using a combination of pelleted and powdered lime.......I re-use my soil.

Well, got to the end here. This w/ the re-use thread is some good book learnin'. Now I am gonna go re-read that re-use thread again. I can't wait to get a batch of LC #1 going w/ the first recipe. I am also strongly leaning to the 3LB method to recycle about a ton of FFOF that I have, but I will re-read that recycle thread first. I do wonder about just using the LC 1 mix w/ the used soil also instead of the 3lb method, but I will get it figured out one way or the other. Now I just have to start hunting down these ingredients, that should be the fun part. Thanks again everyone.

Yes it makes a huge difference! The longer it sits the more time the BB and other micro-organisms will have to break down the organic matter with in the soil substrate. Also, it will allow the lime to begin to buffer the ph level of the soil. The ph level of the soil also affects the BB in the substrate. But that´s another story.

Once you have mixed your soil make a simple Compost tea and water in to inoculate the substrate with BB. EWC, Compost, Blackstrap Molasses and tepid water will work just fine. For a more complete description of how to make a Compost tea visit one of the fllowing sites;

I was thinking about trying an organic scrog. The only problem I see with doing a soil scrog is that since you're vegging to fill the screen, it seems like it's impossible to do transplants. So I would basically have to go from a 16 oz beer cup straight to a 5 gallon pot right?

Well anyway if I do that will Recipe #1 carry me through 5 weeks of veg and 9 weeks flower in the same pot on water only or am I going to need to have some nutes on hand.

Please advise. Thanks!

Many scroggers top their plants, which buys you time. Keep the lights close to limit stress, transplant deeply to an intermediate pot, then just before it is screen height transplant again.

Did it with lc mix and it took me through flower with only the wee bit of purpling that indicates a well stressed plant.

sorry I meant to type "stretch" not "stress" but my stupid phone corrected me.

Edit: If asked why I want to limit stretch- I am used to outdoor, and I want the plant to grow normally as much as possible. Stretched plants are weak and don't have the root system to support the height. I want the stembto be as fat as possible and the roots as full as possible. So by transplanting deeply I mean almost all the way to the first node, and some even pull off the low branches and plant up to the remaining ones. That's stuff I might do outside anyway.
