I found a great yucca extract product that doesn't have any preservatives! Great price @ $28/Gallon! 1 - 1 1/2 TBSP per gallon... this will last a long time. Damn did my water foam like crazy after shaking it up.. oh yeah! It's called Natural Wet by JH Biotech Inc. The PH has been lowered with organic acids and it has some sugar preservatives in it according to their sales rep whom I spoke to on the phone. Therm X70 by Desert King has preservatives and seems to be the most widely stocked besides AN's Wet Betty (also has preservatives). I still can't figure out if Earth Juice's Wetting Agent has preservatives or not.

Not at all necessary but very cool man! I will probably eventually change my name to something more serious...haha... the dirty fake hippie disease got everybody scratching their heads (security through obscurity).

SBZ - where did you find it for $28/Gal?

Thanks,

I just thought that I would comment on the ominipresent EWCs. This round I have switched castings to a source that feeds their worms manure and some grass/hay/straw. The manure comes from some of the most finely fed organic beef and dairy cows anywhere. The company claims that they are very high in protein. What ever it is there is something kicking my grow into high gear with little effort. The CMH lamps I use are critical, but ya'll know when there is this extra going on? I do think it is in large part due to the castings. They just feel good. Probably loaded with micro herd!!

So if I just use straight Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil, there is no point to add nutes during the early veg/vegetation stages? Or is that overkill?

What if it were:
seedlings-75%promix/25%perlite
vegetation-40%promix/40%FoxFarm/20%perlite
flowering-75%Fox Farm/25%promix/perlite

Would that be better? I hear so many things that people will use FFOF and feedings nutes in the beginning/veg stages is overkill? true?

IMO pre made soil is ready for plants veg cycle, and doesn't need 'nutrition' till flower.

The addition of bacterial teas with bacteria and fungi innoculant could certainly help though, they will increase the plants ability to cope with all sorts of stress and assist it in feeding and any excess nutrient storage.

How long they (beneficial bacteria and m&s fungi) take to establish in soil I don't know. To get the bio-community mature in Aquaponics takes 6 months. Apparently this is fast for an ecosystem to 'come right'. Having diluted 'mature' water greatly accelerates this process....

Having diluted 'mature' soil in your soil mix should do the same.

I would change it to

seedlings-50% promix-25 perlite and 25 worm castings with 1 TBS lime
veg-looks good-with tea supplements
25% FF and 75% promix with N and P tea for the first 2 weeks then P tea in the middle and K and molasses to finish.

thank you so mch for your assistance v! I will be using for help for my next grow since i bought quality seedlings. Good thing i tested my first grow with just bagseeds. (jack herror/maui wawi)

I might skip the dolomite lime until the vegetation. I hear dolomite burns seedlings in the beginning stages. Well 1tbsp is not that much.

When using 1tbsp of lime, how much of perlite and promix should be added? Cups?

Hey 2JZ, Dolomite does not burn seedlings.......not to my knowledge. I have a good seedling soil mix in my grow threads. Just look in my profile and get the thread address.

Pro mix already has dolomite in it. I just feel that 1 TBS more provides the needed Mg. and Ca. the plants require and also that it buffers the soil to the 6.8 to 7.0 range. Some agree some do not, it is just my way.

Your amounts of peat to perlite will not change. I add my lime according to gallon volume of substrate.

It takes time for the lime to become active in a substrate so it is better to prepare early......as with all amendments that you may add to the substrate.

Just thought that I would pass along the above link. The company it takes you to has some of the highest quality organic worm castings. High protein and very rich. One of my first grows ever I used their potting soil and found it to be amazing. Drains well, no PH worries, no lock outs. Great structure and feel. I just added guano and kelp meal.

I don't use the soil as I enjoy mixing my own and like coco because of the peat bog destruction/environmental aspects of peat harvest. The worm castings are awesome and can be found at

ecogrow - A very high quality shop in North Seattle that has been at it since the early 1970s I think. Knowledgeable, professional and naturally discreet.

You have to call for soils and castings.

Have a great day all!

I've been using this product "Amino-Tech" by NTS........
Amino acids chelate, promote and activate but, most importantly, they simplify the protein building process for the plant and the energy saved can be utilised elsewhere.
Ocean fish is slowly decomposed, using a proprietary microbial blend, until the protein content is reduced to amino acids. The active components of the fish remain and the microorganisms used in the process also remain in the end product. In fact, these organisms, which include valuable fungi species, serve to stabilise and protect the completed product during storage. Amino-Tech™ is an ideal base for D.I.Y fertilisers, due to the potential for amino acid chelation.

great link thaiphoon, one more step to making our own with the ingredients that can be bought just about anywhere. i like that compost in 3 weeks and how it demonstrates the bamboo culture method. i have some small bamboo plants from clones i took this year, hopefully by this sumer they will be big enough to take cultures from.

too bad my tumbler produces compost in 2 weeks with the activator though :p
