Hey that plant was in a small cab under a 400 hps so it was getting quite alot of light....Peace

What were temps like in a tight space with 400 watts? Do you have the plans and the build of the cab on IC? In the journals or something?

You think the grow was expensive? 90gms is mass for a small grow but the lighting would have smashed the hip pocket eh?

I just started my First grow and first DWC thanks to this thread...

Can anyone touch on how to use the Nutrients?

Do I just add directly to the water... and stir it with my hand? Or will it dissolve easily...

Also, I was looking online for a PH meter and an EC meter... any good CHEAP reccomendations?

Also, here is my journal... any input is always HUGELY appreciated.

Hey Dr D! Im a big fan of the thread and all the info you guys have provided here. I am a complete noob when it comes to growing and was hoping for some advice. I have seen the light and have decided to go with your homemade DWC system. I plan on vegging with the LED UFO Gen3 light from HTG and plan on flowering with a 400w HPS that my buddy is lending me. I plan on growing in a grow tent from HTG that measures L 39" x W 39" x H 79" and was hoping to get 4 or 5 plants in that space using 5 gallon buckets for each plant.
My questions are: Do you think the LED UFO Gen 3 will be adequate for vegging 4 or 5 plants in that space?
Will I have enough room during the flowering period? I have 79" inches of height
6" is a water proof floor
15" is the height per bucket
6" - 7" is my HPS light and reflector
So that leaves 51 - 52 inches... is that enough to grow my plants big enough to get a similar yield to Mr Nice Shit which yielded 90 grams? I am hoping to get atleast 2oz per plant.. is that reasonable?
Also how close can my plants get to the 400w HPS light?
Any advice and help for a spaced out noob is greatly appreciated! bless

Air Stone Thoughts?

Air Stone Thoughts?

Hey love the root photo. I use 5gal black buckets, but I don't use air stones. Do you think there is an advantage to having an air stone in each bucket?

Years ago I had them in the buckets maybe the plants were bigger but I can't remember.

I love the yield from the system and it is so easy just to set it and forget it for a week or even longer.

It looks great but where do you get plants or seeds? The cannabis I got at the dispensary in CA had no seeds in it.

Hey Dr.D

I want to run some buckets like yours, but want to alter two things.

1) Could I have one pump running ten buckets?

2) Could I have a seperate reservoir that would fill all the buckets once emptied?

I want to keep the rez water cold and assume it would be much easier to keep cool in one giant rez rather than 10 little reservoirs.

Hey guys..Dr.d

i have soo many projects going at the moment so im waiting for a few to finish then hitting DWC.

i have a couple of Qs

1. is there any way of making the bubbles quiet ?lol, i ask as the stone seems to make a noise which will in my situation be heard by neighbours .

2. i have a tent 5ft high 3ftwide x3ftdeep 1x 250watt hps and 1x 250 blue cfl, would it be ok to use both bulbs giving both the blue and red?
Also how many plants would you flower in this tent with given equipment? loads of ventilation, freshh air 1 intake 6" and 1 exhaust 6" to get fat colas? well as fat as possible with given lights.

The ladies im choosing are bigbuddha cheese and gbomb which will have 2x 120ltr per hour adjustable air pumps, hydroton,, vitalink nutes, vitalink buddy along with the biggest/sugested size bucket i can get in the tent

Any input/thoughts/advice greatly appreciated

Hey

Hey

Sorry i dont have time to answer all you questions, if you read through the first part of the thread you should get most of your q's answered.
Akabud wrap rubber bands around your airstones to stop them vibrating on the bottom of the bucket, hang tyour pumps from a bungie if they are noisy as this eliminates vibration. id grow one to two plants in there in the same container...storage containers are awesome come in all shapes and sizes to suit(make sure its got a sturdy lid your plant will weigh alot). Plants will grow big and fast in bubblers i have to two about to go into flower with ten other plants in coco in a 120 x 120 tent, now there is room for the bubbler and nothing else il post some pics up.
Il answer some more of your Q's soon...Peace

Thanks doc, my pumps are actualy silent, its just the air coming through the stone thats a problem, thanks for the tip with the rubber bands, can see this working.
Would 2 plants in a 10 gallon container be ok? im not short of choice for containers or plastic pipe work as i make these for a living .
Thanks for replying buddy

I purchased it from my local hydro shop, all the info on it is in chinese, i have just setup my dwc (without the presence of a plant) and got the whole system almost silent by puting my container on a piece of carpet, i asked the doc of how to keep noise down from my stone and he sugested rubber bands on my stone. works perfect. thanks doc

Do 1 plant under the hps and 1 under the CFLs. I personally would do separate containers but the way Dr._D said to do it just as good. It's just a preference of mine. If you do it in cheap department store storage bins then get 2 of each one you get. I say this because the plastic is thin and can break a lot easier. By getting 2 of them you can put one inside the other and make the structure stronger so it will hold up better. As far as what size containers to get that all depends on how much space you have. The more space you give your plants to grow the better. Is 5' the overall height or the growing height? Is 3' by 3' overall width or growing width? For 2 plants to produce anything you are going to need to give them as much room as possible. Make up some plans to see how much growing room you have and then decide what would be the best approach(SOG, SCROG, 1 or 2 big plants, etc.).

I feel your pain about the airstones. Get airstones with suction cups so you can suction cup them to the inside of the container as a quick fix to your airstone problem. These can fail over time so what a technique I have found that works is make the hole in the lid a little smaller than the diameter of the air tube and kinda force the tube through the hole. After that pull it through and attach the airstone. Now move the tube back and forth in the hole until the stone is suspended in the water and makes no noise. What I usually do at this point is get some aquarium sealant(silicone) and smear it around the tube at the hole on the inside and outside of the lid so that the stone doesn't move. If you have more than one airstone then make multiple holes. This technique also allows your airstones to stay in the same spot. This is useful when changing the water out of the containers. When you put the lid back on the stone(s) are in the exact same spot as before. As far as making the bubbles quieter...yes there is a way. A 2" thick rubber mat on the floor under the bins will dampen any vibrations coming through the floor. As far as actually making the sounds of bubbles breaking the surface, other than covering the container with a lid...I got nothing.

If you have any questions feel free to ask away. If Dr._D can't get to them I will try and answer what I can for you. :joint:

Excellent advice there my friend, thanks, i used a piece of old carpet which took most of the noise away from the stone. i haveto go and purchase more air stones today..
thanks

Finally found a simple, fool proof, method! THANX so much Dr.D. I had been contemplating this Hydro thing for a while now and this seems to be the best way to start. Waiting for my little sprouts and on we go....I'll post pics as I go. Thanks again! PS- I'm a country boy and have been growing my own for awile now, but early helicoptor runs this harvest is turning me towards the hydro-method, not too mention the TWO WEEK YIELD?!?

Peace Be With U
