Oldtimer's Haze

Hi,

i wanted (i felt the urge...)to share my experience with the Oltimers Haze variety from ACE Seeds.
Haze was always on my list to grow and try but i never did because of people saying its to difficult, grows to high, flowers to long etc.

Along with Northern Lights Sensi Seeds (actual Version) and Kali Mist Serious Seeds (actual version), i popped 6 Ot-Haze Seeds. In comparison to NL and KM, the Oltimers haze was just a primal beast, straight out of an ancient jungle. No leaf-yellowing or strange leafspots, quickest rooting, just growth without a feeding shedule made by NASA. Just a joy to experience for me...

I switched to 12/12 1.April. Ot-Haze cuts along with the other varieties, but just in 9x9cm pots (0.5-0-75 Litre i guess...) just to give it a try. Nothing to lose. The Hazes stayed for three months in the tiny pots, then up to 2 litre pots and finaly in month 5, they got 7 litre pots. After uppoting they pushed little flowertowers and expanded hughely in mass.

They shurely suffered, got through heat and very high humidity. Kali Mist got mold, Ot-Haze nothing... finaly in September after almost six months they where ready to harvest. I think the uppotting stretched the flowering time, but i dont know +dont care.
Maltreated, rural, shaggy girls but o boy what a big number of good times were waiting for me, i didnt know at that time...

I think tree months of age is neccessary before the first try, atleast i was doing it so. I got two effect-phenotypes.
One is truly messing with your perception, thinking about (thinking about thinking)-type Stuff, but not very social compatible. You are just to engaged with your mind waving. It also has a very soaring wabbering tunnel like effekt in feeling and also with your vision. Happening in waves of high/very present intensity and moments when you think „oh its time to hit it again“ but better wait. It is in deed a psychedelic experience if you are open to it and give it the space and pay attention. Cool stuff.
But the second effect-phenotype is my very favorite. After three month of ageing i just got a very good, friendly social chatty silly effect, very pleasant. But the effect got better and deeper with every quartal of the year. It is almost nine month old by now, the other varietys lost their good effects months ago already, but it is now so good and strong.
I got an imagination that describes it very good. Like a childhood memory driving with your bike through a suburb on a quiet peacefull summerevening. Golden light, no people, just you rolling with no direction feeling infinit good. For me it hast such an calming element to it but also delivers an euphoric rush from time to time. But in every moment its just kind, friendly, strong. Present but never overwhelming or scary. It pushes the maximum within this effectframe. It keeps you functional and clear, never takes your dignity and the experience always feels vivid in some kind for me. It is in deed very special in comparison to what i experienced in Weed and Hash over the years.

It is no sledgehammer, but for me it is the goldstandard of Weed atleast by now. It almost always surprises me and never leaves me unsatisfied. True wizards Weed.

Maybe there is someone out there looking for Infos about Oltimers Haze, like i was.

I also wanted to thank ACE Seeds with this post or at least give a feedback somebody in your company feels appreciated from. Your work beared very nice fruits in my cannabisuniverse.

Thx

Welcome Chills to ICMag 🥰 and thanks for sharing your positive experience with Oldtimer's Haze with all of us. I cannot describe Oldtimer's Green Haze better in words than you did with your second female! Glad they are still shining after a long curing ☀️ enjoy!

Thx Dubi for your response.

As it goes sometimes, my little adventure got some illegitimate offspring. The Northern Lights and the Kali Mist got also pollinated along with the Ot-Haze girls. I wanted to share that with you all quick.

The NLxOtH has not much indica appearance. They flowered for 90 days, have smells from raspberry icecream to german bread/gravy sauce (strange) to citrus. Effect is strong, has much from the Oldtimer Haze with a little body-buzz added and an nice narcotic ending. Sadly hermaphroditic tendencies in every specimen.

KMxOtH has just started to flower six weeks ago, all i can say by now is that they have lots of variation in this first Generation. From little squatty to large lanky. Im very excited about this one. Hopefully Oldtimers Haze High with Kali Mist satisfaction/pleasure High, Oh man yes...

Thanks a lot also for sharing the outcome of your home breeding @Chills :)

NL x Oldtimer's Haze looks great despite the nanners, squat, columnar, yet good yielding. Not easy to bring down Oldtimer's Haze flowering time under 90 days in straight OTH hybrids.

I also found Kali Mist very unstable when I bred with her more than 20 years ago. I don't know how it is today, but I had the same instability in the Kali Mist outcross (even when outcrossed with OTH, which is very inbred and quite homozygous). The plants' sizes and flowering times in the KM outcross were all over the place—short, tall, fast, and long-flowering.

Some drop seedlings of oldtimers hazes from last year. I'm trying to keep them short with podas and lst and cammouflag for security reasons and hopping native corn hide them a little but it's just jun and last year they finished until feb from this year. This time i believed they are sturdy enough for put straight the ground (well, a hole in my clay ground with some worked soil) lets see what happens, rain season just show up after a realy crazy unatural hot season (up to 40° C in area where normal temp in the season is 24°C)

From last season, what was your favorite smoke/strain ?
I'm asking out of curiosity and only my Mexican friend.
Dificult to say since at the end of the harvest season there was some problems, I had to travel some weeks, some of My plantas ended badly by mold, or where harvested to late so not on point. Bigest yielder was super malawi haze with something like half a k x plant (but from that half was discarded for mold), the oldtimer hz was a good yielder. The Zenith has a nice effect. This year i am trying Súper Panamá Haze, the repro of Tom Hill Haze from pandoras box, Zomia Camboya Kirivong, cannabiogen destroyer, khalifa Highland Thai, the Lennon selection of Jack herer from pyramid, and some "gringadas"from the controversial white label bank of blimburn just to check whats new (blackberry moonrocks and suposed to be "mimosa", but with these copy banks you never know). Oldtimer Haze is a good strain, no súper strong (for me half a joint kind of weed, which i like) fut Nice feel good weed, if you over indulge kind of shroomy, good to make stuff, but most important it's perfect for my climate, since their long flowering make her start when the rain season is over. You know? A Big problem is that most breeders try to make ecuatorian and tropical sativas better adaptes to northern climates but with that just ruin the strain to tropical and subtropical growers. Sativa landraces are long flowering and fluffy for good reasons

Happy to see you growing Oldtimer's Haze again this season @OntologicalTurn ☀️
How many new females are you growing this year?

If you are experiencing problems with mold every season, then stick to tropical sativa genetics with fluffy foxtailed structured flowers like Oldtimer's Haze, and avoid anything described in our catalog as having 'dense flowers'.

Genetics with dense flowers perform best if the dry season in the location coincides with the flowering period and not the opposite.

What I'm saying is phyllotaxy has nothing to do with how many pairs of chromosomes the plant has, and you can't predict potency or yield by how many buds per node a plant has. Even if off topic this needs to be addressed otherwise people reading this will keep repeating it which is what always happens on forums.

@dubi can you please give us your take on this?
Yes, I'm aware of the confusion of terms. However, despite what it is called, if the trait produces more buds per node something is going on that most would see as a positive. Answer when you can or want, don't mess with your job regulations.
This is a bit off topic already and I considered starting a thread but I am just at the beginning of dealing with this observation.

Check out https://www.icmag.com/threads/whorled-phyllotaxy-info-please.3704/ if you guys still want more info. Trifoliated is not related indeed.

In short, yes, doesn't mean it's a triploid. It means there's something off with the hormone balance. They generally do produce more (ime with many). More plant tops with per top more bud. Effectively needs less veg time to fill a space too depending on nr of plants.

Wow thanks for your grow and smoke Report, i find this extremly useful.
How was the ratio of plants for the 2nd phenotype, your favorite.
Did you find more than one plant of this type in one pack ?

I'm pleased to hear that thx.

I popped 6 seeds, 3 females 3 males.
Out of the three females, two where the second pheno i described (green haze as dubi mentioned). One was the "thinker"-pheno.
Every plant delivered a special experience, so i think you can't go wrong with this variety.

I guess more modern varietys set the "rotary controler" more to the bang side of things at an expense of unfolding your mind. Thats why it's some kind of gold standard for me. It is what weed should be like for me. (But in spite of this i also like to reach for the more "bang" side of things 🤣)

Hola Dubi, all showed are females, unsexed ones are still in pots. I have always grown foxtailed tropical sativas, from ACE and other sources, although losses due to fungi are always to be expected. I don't know how it is in Spain but I think that there being resistant to mold is not the same as here because I understand that with the exception of some regions like Galicia, their rainy season lasts about 4 months, right? Here they start in June with torrential rains due to hurricane seasons and sometimes end until mid-January and early February, at least in my region. It seems to me that even in the strongest parts of the rainy season it is better for them to flower outdoors than in a greenhouse because in the rainy season the constant ambient humidity and heat of the greenhouse and the fact that it is a closed semi-closed environment make the fungus is transmitted more, while outside, even if they get wet, the plants have more opportunity to dry out through evaporation and less condensation. I have read that other people have recommended the use of sulfur, right? In diluted powder I imagine, or in liquid solution? I'm a little worried that it will leave traces of smell on the plants.
