hi dubi, and friends :tiphat:
i´m very late in the schedule but trying again the Ace Purple Haze´s this year.
I´m still running the same scheme, going all natural and trying to keep it short, i´ve some implications here so i do my best with what i have
3 plants 11L pot, showing the first pistils

i was curious about one very compact and beatifull pheno, and finally this week it showed male flowers. No worried about, i´ll spread this polen in all my hibrids to see some more nature magic

my those are very compact plants compared to what I expected to see on this one may pop these eventually. Definitely want to get them in there for testing out....

Hint: Use small pots for vegging at least if you want to create small plants. :)

I'm sure you've seen lots of people use one gallon or bigger pots from the start that end
up with plants that stretch big time. Control the root mass and you won't get trees.

The rootzone for that plant was roughly 8 liter, over two gallon, dwc. Under 72watt T8 together with 5 (more stretched, topped and smaller) siblings and 6 clones/cuttings. Growing plants in small pots keeps them small but not necessarily less stretched relatively. It keeps them small, not necessarily short.

The plant is in half a gallon bottle with perlite now and over 2 feet tall. That's not from the smaller pot but primarily from the light and the light schedule, now on 12/12 under hps and stuck in a corner of my flower space.

Ime the trick to keep stretchy varieties short, and mature fast, is 24hrs light of medium intensity (that is plenty of light but not max) and plenty of root space so they don't get rootbound and grow wide. Vegging immature (pre-preflower) plants to maturity on 12/12 is what ime causes stretch and actually makes them take longer to show sex than on 24hrs veg schedule. Ymmv...

Closing in on 5 feet tall. Stem is hard as steel. Apart from having to bend it down a little more every day it's growing itself nicely so far.

What day 12/12 are you at in these pics? Cannot wait to see this go!

I am sitting on 1 pack of the purple OTH....

I don't know exactly but about 21-23 days before those pics.

I popped a bunch of them and took cuttings but so short yet vigorous during veg I just couldn't kill this one (after taking cutting) and added it to a flower space that was already half way the cycle. I just put it under 400w mh instead of 600watt hps but honestly I'm not sure how far I will take it her, going to need the space for veg soon.

Thats what I would call great blooming only at 3 weeks 12/12 for the OTH I am getting eager to pop my pack of the purple!!!!

My Kerala and Northern Light/Oldtimer Haze hybrids starting flowering right away too.
But I just read today that it's probably because I grew the plants for almost 2 months
before I flipped the switch. Something about them being mature before going 12/12.
If you flip before they are ready you end up waiting longer before any flowers form.
I've never vegetated Sativas as long as I have this time either. But that's because
I was training them to get bushy. Either way I'm happy with what I see.

Yes, that is why I normally veg till it shows preflowers, usually after 4-6 weeks widely varying per plants and variety. That also appears to happen faster if I veg on 24hrs light instead of 18/6. It's not the chronological age that matters, nor the physiological age alone, but the ontogenetic age. If you switch to 12/12 early, it will still have to go through the same ontogenetic stages but with less hours of light per day, and will usually stretch only more during transition. As dubi mentioned earlier, ideally you veg to maturity and take a clone and flower that one. That's partly because it doesn't reset all types of age to zero.

That's sounds like what I read today.

The cool thing about causing my plants to get bushy like I did and in small pots.
Is that I didn't end up creating trees while vegetating them for 2 months. I know
next time my results will be even better. Now that I created a blueprint of sorts
on controlling these Sativa beasts. I'll also document it better as well for others
to follow.
