I agree that the clone cutz are gonna be faster than the seed, so maybe we need to separate them into 2 categories to make it even for comparison purposes. It would be nice if we all had seed for this, but it's just not realistic.

Maybe if there is a round 2 then I can try the seed I just discovered on some old herb I had stashed. I grew it outside last summer but it was mostly a dud due to lack of sun. The little bugger did manage to hermie up 5 seeds, so I saved them and might sprout em when I have the facilities again.

yeah, well i'm not supposed to do this supposedly.

my shotglass was wet last night, now this morning my seedling looks dead and the soil is dry as bone. im getting really really pissed.

oh, and its not too late to get in. i'm still working on getting mine alive above the surface.

what are you using for soil? any perlite?

I think I read before you were using FFOF.

if so a cpl. things may help.

-FFOF may be too hot for the seedlings right away (maybe start them in some really plain seed starting soils like scotts) ...or FF light warrior might be real good for this

-If they are drying out that fast, I'm guessing that you are using perlite in your soil or you have drainage (is that the case?). I woulden't add any perlite for this type of grow. (mine are in srtaight FFOF and they are taking about 24 hrs to dry out)...when I water I'm fillin' the shot glass to the brim w/ water and I have no drainage. I've been giving them full dose flower feedings just like all my other plants in flower right now. Also I have transplanted them 2 times now...just to get them in some fresh soil as they deplete any nutrition in that tiny bit of soil exceptionally fast.


-also I think you could get them started in a larger cup, then when the roots are developed a bit transplant them to the shotglass (just a thought to get over the initial hump here)

yeah, i'm definatly finding out that OF dries out too quick.

idk what i'm gonna do now, i've used all my lowryder seeds. they all germed well, but getting them to live after that has proven quite a challenge. first spring break, now it dries out. IDK. maybe i'll throw in some chronic bag seeds and just grow it along with this. im definatly not gonna take my others out for this...lol

What i did B10 is u see the pen lid tops on my pots? those where there so i can have cling film wrap covering the pot.. a humidity dome for it as it where.. this helps keep the soil moist till the seedling breaks the surface of soil in the pot..

yeah, i had one of something like that on there. it broke surface so i took it off...i guess a little too soon.

Ahh , well i use it till the seedling breaks surface and loses its shell and opens up to show cots n leaves, then took mine off also ,then keep a good eye on it etc.. yr temps quite high ? that cld just dry the soil out too quick. I use cfl's and keep low 70's temps in my veg n flower boxes..

I made a tiny lil wick setup, 1 shot glass full of water filled my container up with perhaps 1/32nd of an inch to the rim. it appears larger than a shot glass but it is narrower. The setup is 2 Pill Bottles one for the Res and one for the medium (Soil) I also use a section of Cotton shoelace for my wick. I am hoping it will do, I may have to increse the Res size we will have to see.

Going to use a few CFL's surrounding her and use nutes accordingly. I am actually happy so far as the wick is working wonderfully, Perhaps I can get in a few points in the design dept :wink:





Oh almost forgot, it's a Shiva mix obviously started from seed.

I'll post how it goes as it goes, and it's great to be here.

To be fair to other participants and since I rarely cheat/lie/steal..

I measured another duplicate container and it comes to roughly 1.12 Oz.. BUT, I also feel those starting clones have a bit of an advantage as well. I may place a small foam disk into the end of the container to take up the extra .12 Oz's in space? Does that sound feasible? Remebering that a shot glass at it's widest point is somthing like 1.5" across and this container is somthing like 1' the whole length. the volume is almost the same like I said except for maybe a tenth of a Oz..

Reguarless I will contiue this grow as I like it and am happy with the concept. I can't wait to see how it goes

I have also had another idea today I may put into action with another seedling. It consists of a bell jar fuel filter off an old diesel truck rigged as a tiny ebb and flow system. If you have ever seen one you may know what I am getting at. My friends call me McGyver due to my usual outside of the box concepts on everything from growing to transportation (I ride a gas powered skateboard and get close to 75MPG That's 10 trips to work and back for $2.00 Oh, and it also goes Off-Road.. 9' tires

the wick idea should work pretty good.

when/if watering becomes an issue w/ mine I'm gonna rig up a version of one of these auto plant waterers.

Actually, Yea.. the Wick is working great! To the point I may be worried about rot.. I may have to decrese the diameter of the wick as to slow water uptake. And since I am using CFL's the temp is just right and it's not drying out at all rly.. Damn, I love a good challenge

well guys, idk maybe my seedling will make it.
it was gross looking and shit but its opened a bit, and i can see the 1st small leaf set. it looks nasty, but i didnt give up on it when i lost it in 2liters of soil on teh floor..maybe if i keep at it..it wont give up on me...

BTW the shot glass is a clone and the plastic cups are from seed.
