Do you guys use sunglasses or any other form of eyeprotection when gardening?
I have a little over 100wattsHow many watts do you run?

The only thing the Dailymail ever been good for was wrapping fish n chips in the 60,s and whiping my arse with.
I have noticed sils do get my pupil to go pin point but as soon as im away from it it goes back to normal just like the equatorial sun i walk in daily.
I spent years in grow rooms full of 1000w sylvania metal arcs no uv shield, get a free tan
I got serious arc eye from welding / tacking with out a shield 45 yrs ago
That healed after a night of pain = 20/20 vision after 3 days.
Daily mail knows fuck all .A
It's a good thing the study wasn't conducted by Dailymail (https://www.anses.fr/en/content/lig...tting-diodes-leds-health-issues-be-considered). I work in LED industry and we use protective eyewear. Do what you want though.
... they sprout, turn green stretch up an inch or so and then act like they dont want to grow any more. Will being too close stunt the growth like that?
I have them at 10" maybe 11 above the seedlings. should I go further or closer? they seem to not have grown at all today, it's weird. maybe just old seeds? thanks guys, love the thread

hey all, I am reading through and have maybe 30 pages left. My biggest issue is understanding distances for different stages of growth with SILs. I see where some people start with the lights far away at the ceiling of microgrows and let the plant grow up into the lights by the end of flower, which kinda makes sense if the plants can tolerate/use the light better over time. some people talk about having 12w bulbs 6" away from seedlings. I have done micro grows with CFLs for 5 years and and happy with the .4-ish grams per watt I get. Got interested in the leds and here I am. I swapped my 1 sq foot veg box to leds and am waiting to use the 2 sq foot flower box that I swapped also. I may not have the height I need for the bulbs in veg tho. plants seem to not want to grow when sprouted. i am running 2x 9w SILs in the 1sq ft veg box. I am trying to sprout any of the old seeds I have and was able to get a couple of 5+yr old N. Lights to pop. they sprout, turn green stretch up an inch or so and then act like they dont want to grow any more. same thing happened with an old Blue Mystic that seems to be growing half as fast as plants have under the CFLs. Will being too close stunt the growth like that? I'd upload pics but my phone cam isnt working. stick with cfl for babies if you're familiar, i do. without dimming, experience, or a meter, you're gonna fry some kids.
on the very first page of this thread, blynx reveals that capped SILs produce about 7x the directional light per watt of cfl. uncappped, 9x.
not universal or exact, but generally, this should give you an idea.
That actually makes it easier to get an even spread. I build my SIL fixtures in a grid shape that is almost the same size as the tent. No more COB hotspot with all the edges getting much less light. Obviously there is still some edge effect, but it's much less, and easily fixable.
I found the 5 socket x 5 socket I built for my 3' x 3' tent didn't quite cover as well as I'd like, so I moved it to one side and whipped up a 1x6 to fill the open area. The modularity and flexibility of this platform are so cool for a DIYer.
