I had too much light :-(

I had too much light :-(

I've been burning up my plants and now I know why. Most of the internet chides that you need a minimum of 50 watts led per square foot, or even more the better. So I've been running 200 watts (4x 50watt COBs) in a 2x2 until I read this thread. Yeah my buds were toasted. Thanks to Blinxs and Turpene I now run at 100watts in the same tent and things are looking very green. By the way, I have an HLG 65 panel and 5x 15watt SILs ping the same intensity On my light meter, at an eighth of the cost of the board. I retired the COBs with their heat sinks and fans, I'm sold on sils, they are in all 3 of my boxes now and I am a happy grower. Best thread on IC?

I've recently shelved my amazon LEDs for SILs in my 3'x3' that I use for flowering. I've got a Peak NB about to come down and the size and density of the buds is impressive under 375w of SILs, far better than under the 2 x 400w(200w each actual)COBs that it replaced.

After seeing the results, I built a 2 x 5 fixture for my 18"x 30" veg tent and will be putting together a 4 row x 4 socket fixture for the 2' x 2' tent. Since I've discovered lighter, better material for the frame, I may rebuild the frame in the 3'x3' as well.

It's nice to have the old lights in the closet for emergency back-up, but they'll never be a primary light again.

Another advantage of the SIL fixtures is they have a bit of future proofing built in. As newer, more efficient SILs are developed, the old ones can just be screwed out.

Good point about future screw ins becoming brighter and more efficient, I hadn't thought of that. Plus economies of scale will always favor SILs over grow fixtures in bang for the buck. With my DIY line voltage cobs I worried about fire should a soldered connection fail. They didnt, but they are hot and noisy due to fans, and additional fan 12 volt wiring made for a lot of plug strips as well. Sils are so much cleaner and worry free, especially in a 5 or 7 lamp fixture.

Was in Costco the other day, and they have Feit dimmable 100w equivalents @ 4/$15.

I didn’t check to see the actual wattage on these, but last time they were 17.5w per.

I can't post full pics , idk why I tried and it's not working so thumbnails should suffice I'm hoping. The smells coming out of this closet have me really excited, and I have a garden or two under my belt! These should be fun to see go to senescence. I'm wondering if these are enough light!? 17 watt feit 100 watt replacement LEDs wi the 90 CRI ......top diffusers cut off ...............about 4 days of 14/10

That closet is approx 2 X 3 X 7 so I put a solar emergency survival blanket at the backside of the entrance to refract the light. How does this look?

HLG65 vs 63w SILs

HLG65 vs 63w SILs

Here's a quick comparison. Using a meter the same as Turpene uses, I measured to 1000 On the meter. This is achieved at canopy 16" below the HLG . A 5 cluster array of SILs @63watts needs to be 12" above canopy to get 1000. A 23watt array needs to be 6" above canopy.
This shows that the HLG is about 40% more efficient, but at a cost of 500% more than the SILs. Add a few more SILs and we might reach equivalency.
I'll take a measurement of a 7 array @ 15watts each= 105w and see how that compares.

I messed up that first test as I forgot to turn off the other lights in the HLG tent. I must be high...the correct height above the canopy for the 65watt board to read 1000 is 13"!
This means it's only slightly more efficient than the screw ins Of equal wattage. That's great news! It proves the concept in my mind. We're dealing with micro quantum boards here.

Hi!

Got it free. So easy to assembly/disassembly, only 4 socked needed a screwdriver, the rest nothing. I have some low watage 4500k led bulbs (also free) 4W-8W for a 2x2 tent.

Hey Lakayo I'd love to use that self built string light concept in my next build. Do you mind sharing where you got the sockets that are used with the flextel feria cable? Thanks man
