thanks

this is the better advice

I only ran these once and a few colas were around 2.5" from bulbs with no noticeable ill effect

-cheers

I think genetics have to do also, not 100% sure, but my observations lead me to think that.

Some strains may not be stressed at all (Kali China for example didn't brown a single pistil under the same SIL rig), but in my case Kalichakra, Beyond the Brain and the "anemone like" Nepal Jam exhibited this, and kind of "stalled" shooting pistils, resuming after it was raised.

For those in the hunt: not all SILs are equal
One thing is for sure: my 11-15W SILs (all >10 LED chip count) doesn't seem to bleach or "cook" the plants at close distance, whereas my HML (10W and 5W watt discrete Cree chips) does unless you leave a minimum distance of 30cm/12".

That's why I prefer high-count LED chip SILs: A 15 watter with say 20 chips won't bleach or cook plants at close distance ever while a 15 watter with say 3 LED chips will, and any vertical space gains is always welcome!

Before: SILs at 3-4" from tops, it kind of stalled one week like this, with noticeable pistil decay:

Three days after raising SILs to 6" (horrible picture sorry):

This lady didn't micro-foxtail like this on previous run, let alone it grew like a inch+ more on week 7th???

Finding out to get the best pheno expression with sativas can be tricky... Would love your input guys!

Hey all first timer here, finally had the time space and a little start-up money after years of wanting to try and doing a good deal of reading up on growing. Was inspired a ton by this thread and the great results you guys were getting without spending 200-300$ for pre-built lighting. Went ahead and built a little setup with 12x16watt bulbs for 192 watts in my 2x3ft closet. Started with 4 plants all from bagseed but all were amazing bud with very few seeds i found over 2 years figured its a good way to learn. 2 males idk the strain, 1 hermie and 1 female both GSCxChemdawg, i remember that was the bud that i had 2 seeds from. Chopped the bad ones, starting 4th week of flower now and had no balls at all on my female luckily. Originally had 2 plants filling my screen so forgive the empty wasted spaces but I plan on grabbing good seeds from Attitude and making up for it next run. Just want to see how I'm doing for my first plant under the circumstances and let you know you guys rock for getting all this info in one place :)

Welcome Acoustic!

imgur doesn't allow hot linking the images, that's the reason, you should upload them to icmag (links to guides in my sig).

Really clean and slick setup! Nice and tidy... :tiphat:

What temp color are the bulbs? Do you have pictures of the chips?

I would let the girl veg a little more prior to switch next time, but better undergrowing than overgrowing your space the first time.

u using 10hours or less on the sativas?

No, 11/13 so far.

Pics aren't from the same top, proper term would be is stacking, not stretching, sorry.

Filling up the internodes like mad currently :)...

other way around, you can always cut material off, but you cant add anything once its done vegging

i would remove the rock (will act as heatsink) and cover the carpet

and add some soil around the stem, you rather want to stem soil level to be higher than the rest of teh soil so it keeps the inside/middle dryer

Thanks guys and yeah I’m aware of my canopy not being filled like I said I had 2 females that size I veged for 5 weeks from seed. Next time I won’t be growing bagseed so hopefully have 2 good plants to fill the 2x3ft space nicely.
Out of 12 bulbs I ran 8x 5000k and 4x 2700k in veg and the opposite for flower, 8x 2700k and 4x 5000k. All 16watts 192 total want to add more tho lol for flower at least.
Plants are getting super frosty I’ll put up a newer pic tomorrow

Hey guys, I got a question!

from what i can tell most if not all you guys are using mainly/only screw in LEDs.

Are there any experiences with using screw in bulbs as supplemental lighting for a single CMH 315w?

only really looking to round out the par ratings around the edges.

how do screw in bulbs compare to T5 fluorescent or t5 bloom LEDs?(apologies if this is slightly outside the purview of this thread, in my head its 'close')

are there specific makes/types/brands/designs that are more ideal for bloom than veg other than rated kelvin? (been years since i dabbled with LED and blurple was the fad then)

Thanks

Natural colors (under SILs).

I planned to make good pictures today but found electricity went out (burnt wall socket due to poor install), girls had condensation droplets on fan leaves :wallbash: and lost almost 6 light hours.

I opened the side tent window to check how moist this girl was and was greeted with these gorgeous colors, so had to snap a pic! (phone)

Maple_Flail CFLs useable lighting for flowering is an sphere the size of a basket ball. SILs have more penetration.

I also considered once to "supplement" an HPS with SILs but saw little point on it... too cumbersome (wiring), more power draw... diminishing returns.

What I have found worth trying is vegging/flowering 100% with SILs, specially on space, or temp restricted grows.

For flowering the good 'ol rule of 60% =<3000K and 40% >=4000K (for more frost) is all required... going with a known brand will possibly mean longer life and more homogeneous performance throughout the life of the SIL, but nothing specific to flowering.

i think it would be worth investing in a quad of sub 3000k, just to do a comparison.

60w extra at most and will have blue covered by the cmh.

once things are tuned in, it should be easy to extrapolate GPM with cmh alone and compared to GPM with the quad , if it yield the same but last longer it is a win to me. if the yield is greater and last longer. Double win.
