Yep the 3rd cut was kinda gold buds in appearance pissy incense is a good description...definitely chunkier buds... probably the most intense instant high....Stoney I'm 100% certain it survived the bust, as I very much remember picking up bags of stringy piff in 2006/7, I can't speak to whether its alive today I'd have to reach out to some old friends. I was unaware there we're multiple cuts, always tacked it up to different grower/nutes/evironment.... now that you mention it, the stringy hazy or 1st cut as you say was more bandaid/basement and i can only assume the other cut I liked was the 3rd which was much more pissy/incense and a bit denser. Does that sound right to you?

It was grown at many locations up and down east coast n even in PA... mostly large residential grows few buildings were blown up... the longevity and success were do to the right ppl getting paid by the right ppl .. even the corners operated openly... traffic on 178 n autobon at 3 am car lined up around the corner .. was nice when it lasted and lasted for hella long ..So, do you guys believe that the PIFF was grown commercially indoors or outdoors ?
I find it hard to believe that such a large commercial operation chose to grow low yielding long flowering in an indoor setup, let alone that a setup of the size required could run for so long undetected... It would be a unique situation in the story of clandestine cannabis production during prohibition. So I suspect the PIFF is imported, outdoor grown and that the famous inscense smell comes from the cure
Yup thats the one, tastes sweet & pissy without so much twang, the incense always mellowed it out, end of the joint is almost the best part, instant alert high. Without givin too much away, any chance you could describe the 2nd cut a little? I smoked a lot of piff growin up so i'm curious to see if I can remember.
OK the 2ND cut is bright green soft nugs with a silver sheen n red hairs... can be hairy when grown poorly ... it can be remembered as some of the best when grown right has a super strong incense smell mixed with basement followed by tropical floral soap .... probably the stinkiest in the bag piff and best looking.. super strong can get races intense high... also could be the worst piff that hit extra soapy but tasted suspect/sprayed alot of blacks in Jersey Newark/Irvington/jc had this one...except the school off of began n Springfield area they had the flame ... towards the end of the great piff era poorly grown samples of this flooded those the samples were so shitty imo that they resemble the stringy original in appearance but lacked the special qualities the first one had n tasted like shit... the later version basically just got taken over with sour...

Thankyou stoney, interesting and has a ring of truth about it
You are alluding to LEO playing a part in the distribution ?
My question really was, why did they grow a (long flowering, low yielding by comparison) Sativa when they could have earned more $$ growing a hybrid/indica. Yes, sure people clearly loved the PIFF, but I cannot recall another time or place during this prohibition where connoisseur headstash was grown and sold commercially, in the face of massive financial incentives to maximise the rewards for a life threatening criminality.
Are members of the NYDP and assosciates so into their smoke that they happily run a 100s of million $$$$ operation at 30% of possible return, risking life without parole in the Penitentiary, for great weed ?
This is the anomaly that has never added up for me. I always guessed it was some tight as fuck crew of old heads with a laaarge farm on the islands, central america or S america who had a solid route in.. it was the only answer that made any sense to me.
