Seed-?

Seed-?

Got a seed question-how can ya tell when the plants been in flower long enough for the seed to be viable? Goin for a WW X BB just for seed and need to know when to harvest.

Seed production is directly related to bud maturity. You may even have to go a little longer than the breeders recommended finish times.

Some growers have been known to pollonate the preflowers but bean production is limited.

good luck

Seed maturity takes 4 weeks.

If you allow the male and female to flower together, the male will begin releasing pollen long before the female is ready, typical males...

The pollen stays viable for 3 weeks. That means you have to remove the males 7 weeks before harvest to get near 100% viable seeds.

I did some testing at 4 weeks, only a couple seeds were mature. 5 and 6 weeks I took more samples and decided I could accept the 10% immature seeds with the majority of mature seeds.

If in doubt, leave the plant until you see brown appearing at the base of the bud. You will also see seeds preparing to drop from the bud.

Sorry-dont understand why to remove males 7 weeks prior
If I collected pollen and fertilized smaller buds what kind of seed return could you expect from an average size bud?

You don't have to remove the Male. I think he is saying if you don't remove the male not all the seeds will be mature. Because they didn't have enough time to mature. So basically for example if you take the male out 7 weeks to maturity you will get 100 seeds which 90% will be viable, if you leave the male in the room the whole tim you will get 200 seeds which 45 % will be viable.

Hi ND hope you get back in here soon. everything is looking great I think you might have to rent a backhoe to dig all them holes.

If you can isolate the pollen to a single bud, all the available flowers will produce seeds and all the flowers that develop for the next 3 weeks will also produce seeds.

The pollen sticks to the tricomes on the flowers and leaves. After 3 weeks, it fails to pollinate, the newly fertilized seeds need another 4 weeks to mature for a total of 7 weeks after the first application.

At 7 weeks you should see near 100% viable seeds and lots of them. :D

I think the best thing we can do, is keep ND's thread alive with our own pictures and information.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind seeing some of our green shots in his thread

Maybe we can turn this into a little photo Journal....anyone have some unique pics?

Yeah I remember seeing two little critters riding around in that thing before!

My LUI's are sprouting tails. They took a little longer than Dudes, I suspect it may be something in the city water....or those seeds are thick skinned from growing that far North!:biglaugh:

Excellent. My LUI f2 test germinated later then the Derailed Blues too.

I have heard that seeds need some drying time before they will germinate. A couple weeks in my low humidity climate seems to have done the trick.
