Northern Dudes Quest for Excellence "06"

Hey there PT and thanks for dropping in..my bunkie is a small building 10 x 15..it has room for 4 beds that hang off the walls..there's a little table in there for cards, eating or mixing soil and ferts..there's lots of heat and it's a great spot to get things going..actually many people used to build a bunkie to live in when they built their own homes...thanks for asking..
So here's a few shots from today..hey Cap't the first one is an AK-47 X MT..just coming up

Next few are Derailed Blues...there's a thread going on about these babys..

And last is a pic of two Lowryders that I've just transplanted..healthy little things..I'll get a few more pics up soon...stay safe..

ND, glad to see evrything is starting to pop around the bunkhouse.

The AK is going to be real interesting. I'm looking forward to see what phenos show up.

The crosses were pretty much, spur of the moment decisions, so anything could happen. Next time I would like to have enough time to hand pick the donors of each strain.

My project list just keep sgetting longer!

Looking great!

Hey guys..those DB's are looking pretty good gentlmen...I don't recall any pen being used..but hey at least they are up and smiling...BTW I germed three of the AK crossed with MT...I'll be checking to see if the other two are up later...going fishing for a bit..gotta get the freezer full of trout before the huts have to come off..I still have over a month out there...thanks for starting this thread there Cap't...anyone else you want to see growing this strain?..let me know...stay safe...

March brings the Coho salmon to my side of the lake as they chase schools of forage fish. We'll be stocking up, with young 2-4 pounders through May, the small ones stack perfectly in the hardwood smoker. The old ball and chain nailed a 32 pound laker last August.....That one was big enough to bend one of stoners pool cues!

Outdoor temps this morning, hovering around -4F with wind chills at 20f degrees below, zero.

Not exactly normal for Feb here!

enjoy

Hey bro,
I just read my last post and I think I got mixed up what thread I was on...LOL...oh well..ya last Thursday I went out to the hut to get it out of the ice..it had sunk abit with the warm weather and I didn't get out to prop up the corners..so I had plenty of chipping to do..anyways with all that noise and banging around I ended up with two real nice 4 1/2 pounders..also two 1 1/2 lb little ones...turned out good...now as far as my plants are concerned..I have found a male citral, I still have one to sex...all others are in their 13 day..I started on the 5th...the second batch went into the coolers on the 15th..a few more on the 16 and I just put the two sour bubble 3x into flower mode...things are going to get busy for a bit...all females will be transplanted into bigger containers and when they take..its cloning time...hope all is well with you guys..it's cold as hell up here too Cap't..we had a flash freeze and with the wind chill..it makes it pretty chilly...stay warm and ...stay safe..

Hey there guys..thanks for dropping in..
truthought..let me know what area you are in and we can go from there..glad to hear you have you grow up and running..gives you lots of time to clone..
dopeman old buddy..good to see you..I'm up here in Muskoka..where men are men and sheep are nervous...I've never tried any real sativa doms up here..but I'm going to try this year...just some skunks#1's..I really don't have a long growing season so indica's work best for me..
BTW two plants have shown..1 Citral- Male..gone to the snowbank..1 MM x Shiskleberry#3..female..LST started last night...clones in a week..stay safe..

i live in southern minnesota.... according to victoryseeds.com/frost the average last and first are 5/19 to 9/24... so my growing season isnt to short

the plants im working with are about 3" tall... and seem to be indica dom just by the wide leaves there putting out....but only time will tell..

at what size should i start cloning? i was thinking i could make some rooting hormone out of willow branches? has anyone done that before? or should i take the cutting and put it in a jiffy pellet... i tried that before and it took awhile to root and start growing again... whats the best method?.....thanks

Hey truthought...I do things a little different...I will germ three seeds of each strain..if one comes up fine..but I usually get two-three..once they hit their fourth node, I sex them...I don't cut clones off each and find out that way..I just but them on a 12/12 schedule..actually I use a 16 off 8 on for the first bit...anyways once I have my lady..or ladies..I put them into bigger pots and put them under 24/0 ...you will see plenty of growth in a few days..you can pinch them now but it will set things back a week..so to answer your question, I guess I leave them until they are about 10-12 inches...now cloning..I always use a gel..you can use a willow tea for cloning...if oldsterone shows up he will post a link to a good site.. I like to have my clones at least 4 inches long..and I will of course cut the ends on a 45 but I also use Leafs scarification method..all you do is scrap a little of the side of the clone, not too hard but just to show the inner part of the clone..make this about an inch long..I then dip the clone into my gel and then into a jiffy pellet..now when I put the jiffy into my cloning tray..(just a try with a dome on it)...which is filled with soil..I put the jiffy down into the soil so that the pellet is buried..I then mist everything and put the dome on...from there is just check, mist and open the top every now and then..in 10 - 14 days..rooted clones..they then go into my beer cups and await their next transplant which will be outdoors...I hope this made sense to you...It's funny how you do things like this without even thinking about it but when you have to explain it to someone..its difficult..hope this helps...stay safe..

C

clear and blue

you can use a willow tea for cloning...

does it follow that dissolved aspirin tablets would do the same job? anyone tried it? i had this idea stuck in my head that honey might help, but stoner quickly dispelled that one.. or a grape and walnut paste.. i think im just being silly now

Root growth depends on the plant producing or ingesting the correct hormones. Cuttings are able to do it themselves. Odds are good, anything you try at random will be ineffective if not counter productive.

I use rooting hormones with fungicide because it is available, but it is not really needed.

I use Rootone powder....it's inexpensive!

My guerilla location is in a river bottom with lots of willows, It's amazing to take cuttings from the young trees, stick them in the mud and watch them grow into mature trees in a short time frame

Here's a link to willow water you may enjoy reading.

Good luck

Hey again...another week and another bunch of pics...things are really back to winter up here and we've had quite a bit of the white stuff...you sure forget it when you open the door to the bunkie and the place is alive...LOL..so I hope everyone is fine and here we go...please excuse some of the blurry pics..I guess I shake a bit...

First, heres a shot of the sexing plants...they are just coming out for the day..

Next a little ND LST

These babies include some NL x BB, UC, some UC crosses, AK 47 x MT and a few white rhino crosses

Here's a couple of Lowryders doing just fine..

This year the two sourbubble 3X's that I've germed, came up..nice indica coming

Just a shot of the other side of the room..lots of health plants.. :woohoo:

Next are two DBs..I think the sativa is showing in the first pic and the bluemystic is dom in the next shot

Finally a citral that I'm hoping will be a lady..the first one ended up in the snowbank..he showed real early..anyways thanks for dropping in and...stay safe..

hey ND,

do you start your seeds in those peet pellets inside the cups???

i use this method successfully for taking clones, but have had my share of troubles getting seeds to pop inside the mini peet pellets

anywho,

keep the show going & best wishes to you this summer

Actually LS I do...after I get a little of the tap root showing..I put them into jiffy pellets and then into my beer cup filled with soil..I then fill up the cup but leave a little of the jiffy showing..I use pellets for cloning as well..thanks for dropping in..

As you said, It's nice to have a little garden of green, going on indoors while it's so nasty outdoors.

Your plants all look very happy and healthy.

Stay warm

Hey there Cap't..yes sometimes the bunkie feels warmer than the house...and I love to get out there and fuss around...How's that G13 x HP doing...if you are going to sex it..watch for stretch..he he..they really take off...stay safe....
