Researchers believe a biological revolution enabling humans to experience everlasting

Researchers believe a biological revolution enabling humans to experience everlasting

IT is likely the first person who will live to be 1,000 years old is already alive today.

This is according to a growing regiment of researchers who believe a biological revolution enabling humans to experience everlasting youthfulness is just around the corner.

At the epicentre of the research is Aubrey de Grey — a Cambridge gerontologist and co-founder or the California-based Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS) Research Foundation.

“The first thing I want to do is get rid of the use of this word immortality, because it’s enormously damaging, it is not just wrong, it is damaging,” he told Motherboard.

“It means zero risk of death from any cause — whereas I just work on one particular cause of death, namely ageing.”

Mr de Grey said his research aims to undo the damage done by the wear and tear of life, as opposed to stopping the ageing process altogether.

“If we ask the question: ‘Has the person been born who will be able to escape the ill health of old age indefinitely?’ Then I would say the chances of that are very high,” he said.

“Probably about 80 per cent.”
To achieve longevity, de Grey is developing a therapy to kill cells that have lost the ability to divide, allowing healthy cells to multiply and replenish the tissue.

“The therapies that we are working on at the moment are not going to be perfect,” he said.

“These therapies are going to be good enough to take middle age people, say people aged 60, and rejuvenate them thoroughly enough so they won’t be biologically 60 again until they are chronologically 90.

“That means we have essentially bought 30 years of time to figure out how to re-rejuvenate them when they are chronologically 90 so they won’t be biologically 60 for a third time until they are 120 or 150.

“I believe that 30 years is going to be very easily enough time to do that.”

Mr de Grey explained his technique for achieving eternal youthfulness is far more likely to be developed before the theories explored by other gerontologist that focus on preventing the metabolism from causing damage to the body.

“We will be able to keep one step ahead of the problem and keep rejuvenating the same people as long as we like,” he said

“The big breakthrough in terms of publicity will be when we can take middle aged mice in the laboratory and rejuvenate them.

“Once we can do it for mice, people are going to know that it’s only a matter of time before we can do it for human beings.

“So that’s where I want to get to and I think we have a fair chance of getting there in six to eight years from now.”

Well it is not so straight forward as that

Sure it is, all I'm saying is the story of Christ as a child holding his own in a conversation of religion with the Temple Elders could just be an example of someone intellectually gifted. I'm not the one trying to bend that to fit into the dialog of my own personal belief system. You got your own personal belief, hey great, I'm happy for you, it must bring you great comfort? As does mine, I too have my own personal belief system. Lets leave it that way. I'm not looking to convert anyone.

Lol just pray for the vain and angry flocks of this world.
We've got to leep the light and maintain . I wounder what these people would be like if diagnosed with a terminal illness. Or some other terrible event.(god forbid it) what would they do? Die angry at the people who aint worried ? There depression about going into non existence (there beliefs) have to into a state of bitter hate.and there vain attempts to mock the faith, and to ridicule the believers. Are just immature rants blinded by hate and try and fill there lives distractions. In an attempt to ignore the fact that they are already in nothingness.
Oh how sad it must be to be in existence and be in a state of meaningless nothingness
Cause if its going to happen, its all already done. Time is just an illusion,in regaurds to existence.
Its funny how we veiw time. Anyways much love to my bros who believe.love to those who dont. Be easy stay up

Well then the bible reminds me of " Murder she wrote mystery's" lol

Hey if that's what floats your ark, go for it.

To my understanding correct me if i am wrong but was there not more then 10 commandments ??? and if so. they were put in stone by that so called GOD if this is suppose to be true then
Someone asked me, "Is it true you are a minister for a church and don't keep the ten commandments?" "That is right, I don't keep any of the 10 commandments." I replied. The person continued, "You mean you lie, murder and commit adultery?" "Of course not." I replied, "Although every one of the ten commandments are abolished, the law of Christ carried them forward into the New Testament". The Sabbath commandment was stated to be abolished in Col 2:14-16. This means that under the New Covenant law, 9 of the 10 commandments have been carried forward and one is abolished.
Dam no wonder christians knee jerk constantly for there sins lol

All Sabbatarians create a false and non-existent distinction within the law of Moses. They usually refer to this man-made distinction as: 1. "the 10 commandments", and 2. "the Ceremonial law".
This man made distinction is most visibly present in passages like Col 1:14 and Eph 2:15. In these passages, they say that only the "Ceremonial law" was abolished leaving the "10 commandment" law still in force for Christians today. If this is true, then we most certainly would need to keep the 7th day Sabbath.
But we will prove that the ten commandment law is clearly abolished and Christians do not keep that code of law any more. They keep a new and better law called the Law of Christ: Gal 6:2.
III. How Seventh-day Adventists teach this false distinction:

The Old Testament is a single unit of laws. Some are moral and others are ceremonial. But there is no way to establish any distinction of two laws! "The Moral Law" and "The Ceremonial Law" do not exist as separate codes of law, as Adventists were forced to invent! Reproduced below is a chart every Sabbath keeper is familiar with. Problem is that it is completely unprovable with scripture. The only place this distinction exists is in the minds of Sabbatarians.

The 10 commandments I speak of is all I know of. The only time it was suggested there were more commandments was in a comedy movie (I think History of the World) where Moses returns from the mountains, he has 3 tablets, he holds one up with one hand and tries to balance the other two in his other hand. He announces, "God has given me these 15..." he drops one of the two other tablets and it immediately breaks into pieces. Moses looks down at it and without missing a beat says"...these 10 commandments..." But yes allegedly according to Moses God carved the commandments into two stone tablets with the fire of his breath as he spoke them, I believe. Now if you go with the Hollywood version Charlton Hes... I mean Moses, threw the tablets to the ground when he say all the people given into their sinful ways while he was gone. The tablets then exploded and caused the earth to split and a firey chasm to appear. So one would think the tablets were lost at that moment. According to legend though an ark (not the same as the boat)was built to protect the tablets and to transport them. It is claimed that a small nondescript church in Ethiopia I believe, now has the Ark but nobody is allowed in the church to see it. Go figure

I'd give living to 1000 a shot if I could.... Life is fuckin precious, too many people think too much about an afterlife.
If there is one, there will be plenty of time to contemplate it when you're brown bread.

over the past few weeks ive read lots of info about the fossil record and it does not support evolution imo.species appear and dissapear.thats not evolution.check out what niles eldrigde thinks about his theory

Species disappearing is rather supportive of a Survival of the Fittest Model don't you think? The fossil record is not a place that would prove or disprove evolution. It could however provide supportive evidence.

Being diagnosed with a terminal illness does not always result in someone finding religion as your post might seem to suggest. The reality is God doesn't punish people with illness they do that to themselves. If one were to then say "God why have you forsaken me?" It would just be them trying to shift blame rather then own it.

613 commandments in the original book

Interesting you say that, mr. bunch, and I'd like to expand a bit on that, just for the sake of clarity and putting things into their proper context, where do I begin?

The 10 commandments and all the other commandments (613 total) given to Moses in Mount Sinai and during the 40 years of wandering in the desert are only and exclusively meant for the Nation of Israel, period. These commandments are found in the Torah, or Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses... or the first five books of what Gentiles calls "old testament".

The Gentiles have no obligation at all to follow them; according to the Torah, the only obligation the Gentiles have in regards God given commandments are the 7 Noachide Laws/Commandments.

For example, if a Gentile keeps those 7 laws (also known as Noah's covenant) they are Righteous Gentiles; while if a Jew fails to keep a handful of the 613 commandments that obligates him/her due to the Covenant with the Nation of Israel, then such a Jew ranks lower in terms of righteousness than the Gentile, even though the Jew is keeping way more commandments and has way more restrictions.

The problem is the old tendency to try to appropriate / seize Jewish Tradition and to make it one's own, the best two examples of this would be Christianity and Islam.

Judaism is not a proselytizing religion, it does not seek converts, and if you really really want to convert, the process is quite difficult and long, and most conversions fail anyway. The rationale being why would a Gentile want to take upon himself/herself all these 613 commandments when he was born as a Gentile and free to do so many things a Jew is not and still be righteous?

The only time Judaism is proselytizing is in regards its own Nation, that is, when a Jew stops following the commandments, for example, keeping the Shabbat, it is the duty of other Jews to try to convince him to keep the Shabbat again, or eat Kosher, or put on Tefilin in case he has stopped or never really did it due to various circumstances.

I could go on and on about how Judaism is completely different from all the religious movements that have tried to appropriate it and how these movements are in contradiction with Jewish Tradition, but that's just way out of the scope of the thread; but it is an interesting topic that anyone willing to properly inform themselves with can do so freely on-line.

A good place to start about this subject is the famous Disputation of Barcelona.

be good,

much peace and good health!

species appearing and dissapearing is not proof of evolution.evolution is slow.a bunch of germs or bacteria in a petre dish changing or adapting to its enviroment is not enough proof for me.if you dont look at the fossil record what other life do you look at that could have evolved?

But all 3 of these religions worship the same God .... They are all abrahamic in origin. Jesus was a Jew, was he not? Islam recognise him as a prophet.
Same meat different gravy, some might say.

Yes, they are all so-called Abrahamic religions in the sense that they are related to the revelation that God gave Abraham.

However, they are quite different in the way they relate to said revelation.

For example, in Judaism the whole point is that the Nation of Israel are direct descendants of Abraham, he is referred as Abraham Our Father, and he had a son called Isaac and Isaac had a son called Jacob, who was later re-named to Israel, Jacob had twelve sons, each the head of the famous 12 tribes of Israel (Jacob).

And without getting into the whole religious aspect of it, that's why the so-called "old testament" is like a religion exclusive to this family of Jacob and how the famous 10 commandments are commanded to them only, as a way to uphold a specific contract God made with them.

Then you have the Christians and Muslims who say that the contract with this family of Jacob is no more and that they are the real heirs of said contract, and so tried and still are trying to kill all the Jews off so as to appropriate their tradition.

and hence why there's so much shit going on in the "religious" world today.

in other words, lets say Grower Green gets a contract with the U.S government to grow weed, but then comes along Grower 2 and says, no way jose, I'm prettier than you and so I'm gonna grow that government herb and get that contract for myself, so fuck you...and then comes Grower 3 and says, no no no, fuck Grower Green and Grower 2, I'm the real grower and I'm gonna grow that shit and not you... etc... etc... etc...

welcome to the world :D

peace

Gravy is lovely! Makes all the horrible stuff easier to swallow. In fact that's probably why they invented it.
Bit like all the adaptations people make to the religions over time - no one wants to eat this old book any more, so let's chuck some new gravy on it

Yeah man in Islamic society everyone is very educated on Jesus, David, Moses et all. Most people don't know the Islamic bible has tons of references to the new and old testaments.
It's the same God.
Terrorists aren't Islamic. ISIS isn't Islamic.

jainism is not "the other 'J' on the block". another 5000 years, there will still be jains.
