Alright, this is the first time ive heard of supertasters, but doing some research it makes sense, some people just have a genetic predisposition for having more sensitive palates. I think my woman is like that, she has a very sensitive sense of smell (isnt smell closely related to taste?) which is why i can never smoke herb or else she'll sense it and she doesnt really eat sweets (supertasters are predominately women and they often dont eat a lot of sweets).

Can you tell if a food has MSG, Pop? I wish i had the ability to recreate dish almost perfectly, i dont think my palate is that sensitive, unfortunately...

Never knew this was a thing but every day u learn something new i guess...

I love those pickled sliced carrots/cauliflower/jalapenos that some mexican restaurants serve, i call it mexican kimchi cause it's vinergary and spicy. I love a good tomatillo/green sauce too, mexican groceries around here will often sell carnitas (pork butt) and ill get some of their deli-made tomatillo sauce and some tortillas and with the carnitas it's fire. For $20 you can eat for 2-3 days.

Sounds like ur living the good life, Gojoe. I wish i could travel the world on a daily basis. So you basically live out of 2-3 suitcases? Ive got so much crap in my house, most of it not mine, that i wish i could strip it down to the bare necessities (clothes, toiletries, laptop and small electronics) and just live like that, moving from place to place. As long as you had internet you could basically live anywhere i guess, although times zones might be a pain to deal with...

Funny you should say that about the Kronos Gyros Baba.i just bought a box my self.never tried it but I'm an hour and a half away from a real gyro and I'm definitely not buying and Arby's gyro so it'll probably satisfy my gyro craving.fuck Arby's hasn't had that roast beef deal in at least ten years but I thought it came back for 2 seconds.i wanna try their sandwiches but I'm turned off with what I got last time.i used to order their chicken fingers and curly fries but I think even they got smaller.im gonna try Culver's fingers next time.their burgers are awesome.culvers ftw

You'll like that kronos gyro meat, Hawk, i bought a box at sams club this summer, it was like $17 for 2lbs, which made about 8 gyros for me. I made them with a good amount of meat too, not super stuffed but more than you'd get at arbys for sure. And lucky for me sams had the pitas, tomatoes and greek yogurt (i already had onions). For the tzatziki sauce you mix some lemon juice, garlic or garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper into the greek yogurt. I could eat that stuff everyday but had to stop myself, i cant eat fast food (even stuff i make at home) everyday it feels so unhealthy lol.

Culvers is indeed fire, they butter their buns and their burger patties are so high quality. Everything they make is good, chicken fingers, fried fish, custard, everything is cooked to order. Almost impossible to have a bad meal at culvers. I think if you sign up for their app you can get good coupons.

Do you have a Freddy's near you? I hear it's like steak n shake, good smashburgers and shakes...

im going to have to keep an eye out for that premade gyro meat, that stuff sounds dank
another good sauce would be that white garlis sauce they use
its yogurt and garlic pureed together with some simple seasonings
i dont think they have culivers here on the west coast but i will keep an eye out for one, it sounds good
i love me a good plain burger and its nice they have fish and chicken on the menu as well
one place im seeing more of is this chicken place called raising canes
its just chicken strips and they charge a grip for them
my friend loves them but his brother and i are not too big on spending $10 for chicken strips and toast
i can usually tell if something has msg in it, but if you use a tiny amount it isnt that bad
i like that cavandash (sp) greek seasoning and it has msg in it, but as long as you arent eating it straight its just a part of the flavor
hope you guys are ready for another great weekend of football!

It's good stuff, i think it's their highest quality gyro meat too. Kronos actually makes 3-4 grades of gyro meat, from high to low, priced accordingly, and the stuff they sell in the frozen section is good quality. I think ive had their lower quality meat in crappier gyro joints and you can tell the difference, the cheaper stuff is more sausage like in consistency.

I thought white garlic sauce is more of a mayo based concoction than yogurt based? It's like a thinner sauce too, very tasty (halal bros version is like crack) but the main ingredient is mayo. Tzatziki sauce is thicker and yogurt based. Both sauces go great on gyros and schwarma tho.

I think the closest culvers to socal is in AZ. AZ i think is the best of all worlds as far as fast food places go, you got franchises from the west coast (In&Out, etc) and midwest & east coast (giordanos, culvers etc). No wonder my friend who moved there gained 150lbs lol, although funny enough i think that was mostly jack in the box. When our mutual friend visited him years ago he was like they ate at JitB every damn meal, lol, unless youre exercising hours every day those calories will add up damn quick.

Raising cain's is bomb stuff but i feel u, paying $10 for chicken tenders and fries and drink feels like a ripoff when you can get a couple chickens for that much. They do it right tho, think they marinate the chicken before breading and frying (all done in house), the cain sauce (mayo based dipping sauce, think it's got ketchup in there and other seasonings too) is great. It's such a simple menu but who doesn't like chicken fingers/tenders? I worked with a guy who'd order that at every restaurant, he didnt act like a kid even though he orders like one lol but some people just like tendies i guess, so not shocking cain's is expanding everywhere. Fwiw i think you can order extra tendies for $1 each once you order a meal, still kind of a ripoff but it's one way of getting more meat instead of ordering a whole nother meal...
Fyi if you get some i think theyre better when they cool down a bit, the tendies hot out of the fryer were a little rubbery/chewy in texture but later on having a chance to cool it was much better.

On deck tonite is falcons at carolina, panthers are favored by 2-3 pts depending on when you got in. Atlanta is playing better since they fired quinn, they should have beat detroit last week but gurley accidentally scored. McCaffrey practiced this week but wont be active for tonite, mike davis has been a very good fill-in tho. Julio jones seems back after dealing with injuries early on, so going with Atlanta to either win or lose by less than 2pts seems like a good bet. We'll see...

I'm not sure but I think the Kronos box has the pitas and sauce with it.i didn't know they made different grades of meat.i guess I got the low grade. Burmans make Gyros too in a box.its not that good.never heard of Freddy's.ill keep my eye open. I've heard good things about Raising Canes.funny name.reminds me of the movie.i thought that was a west coast thing? For chicken though Zaxby is pretty good.they got like 20 different sauces.

I'm an ATL fan but honestly I wouldn't bet on them winning but who knows.hope I get to watch it

Ah ok, ive seen those all-in-one boxes. I think I had one years ago and yeah, i wasnt all that impressed. But yknow, it's still a gyro so not all bad?

Ive never seen the movie but i vaguely remember seeing commercials for it... i dont like movies with creepy/disturbed children, seems too real for me.

Yknow, it's actually Raising Cane's, not cain's, lol. And it started in louisiana, but theyve expanded a lot recently. I think chicago alone has a few locations, and they have a bunch of locations in Cali as well.

I've heard of zaxby's and people say their food is great. It's not just a tendie place but they sell wings and salads and tendie sandwichs (cane's sells a tendie sandwich too). Didnt know they had so many sauces but that's one thing that's better than cane's, which only has the cane's sauce afaik. If i lived near a zaxby's im sure i'd visit it a few times a year at least.

TNF was on Fox for me so hopefully you got to see it. Atlanta won by 8 so easily covered the spread. I thought when their kicker missed a PAT this would set up carolina to score a TD and a 2pt conversion to send it to OT, and then they'd win it on a FG, but thankfully the falcons got an int off bridgewater to seal the win. Theyre 2-6 so probably not going to make the playoffs but they got some talent, they really should be 5-3 because 3 of their losses were very improbable. Not sure who their coach will be next year but he'll have some nice pieces to work with, ryan is still a capable QB even if he's more erratic than you'd like...

Raising Cain was definitely a fucked up movie.it wasnt bad though.my fox goes in and out so I saw some of it.my buddy recorded it so I'll probably watch the second half with him tomorrow.not gonna tell him I know who won lol I'm glad they won though.i just can't trust ATL though. And I do think Ryan is wishy washy.they played good though from what I saw.i hope they get it figured out next year though.they do have good players and Julio is the man.

I only tried Zaxbys cause I was living in GA at the time but I think they have a few in IL.im not quite sure.probably southern IL or near Indiana.its good but I've only had their fingers.

looks like ive been making my garlic sauce wrong from the start
i assumed they used the yogurt but it was an emulsification of oil and lemon juice in this toum recipe

https://www.themediterraneandish.com/toum-garlic-sauce-recipe/

i think yogurt or mayo could be a good hack when you make it yourself
/i also like to add some cumin to it to give it that earthy taste
i will ahve to keep an eye open for those gyro boxes
here in socal its hard to get decent greek/ mediterranian food without spending a bunch
plus its fun to make you own stuff when you want it
still not a fan of canes
their sauces were good but they treated it like they were doing me a big favor when i asked for extra (its supposed to be 35c each)
plus its just chcken tenders
i felt like if i had just spent a couple bucks more i could have gotten a nice mexican plate or a sack of burgers
heck, right now even pizza hut has classic three topping pan pizzas for like 10 bucks
i would like to be grinding on one of them right now ( its 09:15) but i love the pan pizza
unfortunately the mrs isnt so hot on them so we dont get them that much
we are having friends over tomorrow night and maybe i can get some delivered

the falcons are a team that i thought would be a lot better this season
i like matt ryan and they have decent players all over that team
cant wait for the game this weekend and the action starts early for us on the west coast

Yeah i love john lithgow but psycho kids in movies, uh uh, i saw the original pet cemetery and when that little kid came back from the dead and started slicing up that old dude with a razor, gave me nightmares for years. And that girl in The Ring? Ugh, couldnt sleep for days...
CBS is like that around here, has a pretty weak signal around the chicago area, hell even if youre downtown you might not get the signal if there are enough walls or buildings in the way. Most bears games are on fox so if you cant get reliable signal then yeah, you have to look at streaming options. Or do you have an outdoor antenna? You'll usually get a much better signal with an outside mounted antenna, especially if it's one of those big yagi antennas. Even old ones should pick up digital signals...
I thought atlanta had the potential to be a playoff team this year, and their D played well last night, but those 3 losses (when their win probability was 98-99%) just killed them. Ryan's a bit weird, every other year he puts up great stats: 2016 he won mvp, 2018 he was almost as good, 2017 and 2019 were just average tho he did throw for 4k yards still. So 2020 is supposed to be a good year for him, he's leading the league in passing yds but projected to have a 24-8 td-int ratio. A great ratio but less than 30 tds isnt great. He didnt throw a td vs carolina but did have a rushing score, i think panthers are more vulnerable on the ground so atlanta just worked the run game. I could see him really picking it up the 2nd half of the season, with a healthy julio, he could finish with 20+td's the next 8 games, that’d probably make him a top 5 fantasy QB.
IL, even southern IL, doesn’t get a lot of the best southern franchise restaurants like waffle house, zaxbys, the cookout, Bojangles, etc. We do have chik-fil-a around here tho. For fried chicken we have harold’s which are mostly located in the city, theyre solid if a bit slow at times.

I know mayo is basically egg and oil pulsed together in a food processor, with maybe some acid (lemon juice or vinegar) added and whatever seasonings (garlic, S+P, etc) you want. But if you’re making your own garlic sauce and it tastes good to you Pop then you should stick with it.
I’d agree that Cane’s is probably overpriced when you compare it to other options, heck you could get a big bag of tenders at Costco or sams that would be really good and less than half the price per lb compared to cane’s. And that cane’s sauce im sure you could find some copycat recipes, it’s basically mayo and ketchup with some other seasonings I think.
I do like the hut’s pan pizza, also their stuffed crust is good as well, you could get 2-3 of them for the same price as a stuffed pizza from giordanos.

Pet cemetery was kinda rough with the kid.you think that's bad don't ever watch Eden Lake.Good movie but brutal.I have a 25 foot antenna but I don't know why I have problems.some times it works sometimes it don't.Bumfuct egypt.my dad lives a few miles away out in the country and he gets all the good channels with antenna.

I don't know what Ryan's problem is.almost like he has Cutler syndrome sometimes.

Man I haven't had Giordano's in a long time.im surprised they are national now.we always got the spinach pizza.we had some Lou Malnattis sent via dry ice as a gift when I was in GA.it was like $60 I think.at it just sucked.you just can't reheat deep dish in an oven.the crust becomes way too hard and just ruins it.anyone who orders those pizzas to try to get a taste of Chicago will be disappointed and that stuff DOES NOT represent real deep dish pizza.not even close.best bet is to get a cast iron cake pan and make it yourself

Sounds like ur living the good life, Gojoe.

I do not bet some money one day, then more the other, because I have to travel to put the money down. It seems unlikely that I'll ever be involved in anything that can be called the good life.

You know if you're a supertaster because there are many things you don't like. Nontasters like everything. It can be tested but one question may be enough: can you willingly eat some form of cabbage, brussels sprouts in particular. It would take an hour to force a sprout down my throat, in tiny pieces. How can cabbage or anything be made worse? Mayonnaise. I'd sooner starve than eat chicken with mayonnaise on it. What a horrible idea, even worse than peanut butter candy.

I don't know if it extends to smell. I've been walking around the area and most nights I'll suddenly think I smell one or two molecules of something I haven't smelled or thought of since the 70's - my life has been flashing before my nose in slow motion for the past 6 months. Expecting a stroke or heart attack any day.

Atlanta covering was inevitable with their road strength and how they've both been playing since they last met, and teams not usually winning both times they meet. Not really sure what the percentage was last year or if money can be made on that reliably, but it's a stronger trend than Atlanta trying to lose in the 4th. I'd say that they're at their ceiling, except that Gurley can be replaced by 3 randos. He's done. OK I said Brady was done if he didn't play with NE this year. Does he follow Montana's script with KC in the playoffs? Oh PHI is back on the board but the number is like 14 points worse than Sunday or Monday. Maybe they could cover 11 on the road but at home it will be a challenge.

If you're behind some hills and/or trees, that'll block TV signals. Does your reception get better when the leaves fall off the trees?
I think radio signals can bounce off the upper atmosphere so distance or obstacles don't mean as much listening to radio. But yeah, without satellite tv or streaming there's not much you can do for tv if reception isnt good where youre at.
Ha, i wish cutler was half as good as ryan. Cutler never had a 4k yard season, his avg season in turnovers is equal to ryan's worst season in TO's, and he wasnt nearly as healthy as matty ice is either. But i get what ur saying, ryan is pretty up and down, he's had two games this year where he's thrown 4 tds each time but the other 6 games he's only thrown 4 td's total.
Yeah ive heard of people longing for chicago style food to get stuffed or deepdish pizza shipped to them, or even italian beef or chicago style hot dog kits sent out. And it is like more than twice the local price cause of the shipping (overnight, packed in dry ice etc). Definitely didnt seem worth it to me, especially if the product isnt that good. Maybe you should have complained to malnati's, they might have given you a good coupon or a cheap reship.
Ive heard of people using cast iron skillets to make deep dish pizza, seems like a good idea if you know what ur doing, but i always mess up the dough. Dont know why i cant make bread for the life of me...

That sucks that you have to travel to put in your bets, GJ. I was lucky i didnt even have to go to peoria to open an account. I just realized how far peoria is from chicago too, i thought it was near joliet but it's like two hours past joliet, lol. Thank goodness for those location finder apps. I wonder if there's a way to spoof them to make them think youre in state even when you arent? I think there's all kinds of ways to fool the gps on a smartphone without too much trouble...
I dont mind cabbage too much but i hear ya, brussel sprouts are kind of bitter and sulfur-y, last time i cooked them i used a sweet balsamic sauce and the sugar made it more palatable. So are you sort of limited to eating bland foods or is your diet pretty normal, just certain things make u gag?
I thought gurley has been playing better lately, he's tied or has the league lead in rush td's. But yeah, he's not nearly as special as he used to be.
Everyone's pegging Tampa as the NFC favorite to reach the superbowl, especially with antonio brown in the mix. The D is playing great, Tom looks 10 years younger now that he's got actual good receivers to throw to (even though evans and godwin have been injured), gronk looks rejuvenated as well.
The philly line has been weird, it was -3.5 on Wed and now it's like -10.5, -11. I guess maybe whether dalton plays is part of the reason, if he doesnt they have to start a 7th rd rookie QB. As if their O wasnt bad struggling enough...

i dont mind spending money on good food when im out and like chicken tenders
but i think kanes is over rated
but to me thats bar food no matter how good they make them
plus they dont even have other bar foods like onion rings, its just chicken tenders and toast
i like it and will probably go back, especially if they have a coupon or some kind of deal, but dont see it as something im really into

that sucks about your tv reception hawk
we have similar problems, where the tv in one room will pick up a channle just fine but in the main room the signal sucks

cant wait for tonights fun and hope everyone has an extra fun halloween!

Is that seriously it? No fries or anything? That's definitely wierd.im not going to a place just for chicken and toast.

Ive got one big tree and it's just cornfields.maybe the wires are old or something.i don't really like climbing the antenna.pretty sure it's just bad connections.now my fox is working fine but that might change.i can always go to my buddies to watch.

I hear you about the dough Baba.im not making dough till I get a mixer but they are expensive.ive been looking at thrift stores for one.i gotta real big one by me but it's been closed cause of the virus.

Well, you get crinkle cut fries with the meal Hawk. 3 fingers, fries, texas toast and a drink for like 7-8 bucks w/ tax; might be higher in cali where the govt says the chickens have to be free range or have cable tv in their pens or something. Supposedly cane's lemonade is really good, ive had it it's nothing special imo, it's more sour and less sweet than most, so maybe more southern style?
I see what you mean Pop, some bar food is surprisingly good if they scratch make a lot of stuff. And even frozen tendies from the store, if theyre high quality enough, wont seem that much different than canes, and you could get like 4-5 lbs for not more more than one cane's meal.
I dont know, im just impressed that they made a whole restaurant chain out of freaking tendies and fries, lol. Keep it simple, stupid, amirite?
I've sorta kinda wanted one of those stand mixers myself, but dont do enough baking to justify having one. It'd probably just sit on a shelf 364/365 days a year lol. But grabbing a used one is a good idea, many people like me probably thought they were going to use it a lot and regret getting one.

That's the nice thing about living in the cornfields, not many hills to get in the way of tv reception. But maybe youre over the horizon from the nearest broadcast antennas. I know when i lived like 40 miles from the city, the only channels i could reliably get were when i had a big roof mounted antenna, and even then cbs was in and out cause their signal was weaker. Hey Pop you ever do the 'ol wrap some tinfoil around the rabbit ears hack? Lol sometimes that stuff works. Or if you can put the antenna near a window also.

So we had DST last night and everyone got an extra hr of sleep so we all should be well rested lol. Up first we have ravens-steelers and rams-dolphins; less interesting will be vikings-packers and raiders-browns. Also bills-pats might be interesting just to see how bad a belichick team can lose by.
This afternoon is niners-seahawks and saints-bears. Saints will be without their top 2 WRs (thomas and sanders) and bears will have allen robinson, who cleared concussion protocol. Almost makes me think bears can beat the spread (saints by 4) but then i remember new orleans has kamara (who's basically a WR1 by himself) and latavious murray and a defense that's more than capable of shutting down chicago's tepid offense.
On tap tonite is an NFC trainwreck between the eagles and cowboys, whoever wins will be 3-5 and in 1st place lol. Has there ever been a division winner with 6 wins?
Eagles are favored by 10.5, line went briefly to 11.5 when it was announced dalton's out and dinucci's starting. Read some about this Ben Dinucci guy, apparently he couldnt beat out nate peterman at Pitt (!) so transferred to james madison and did well there. He can run some as well so any extra mobility will be beneficial behind that now terrible dallas O-line. He's known as a gunslinger as well, which could either work well for him (completes a lot of improbable throws) or terribly (lots of turnovers). Im debating, should i bet against the Nootchie? Eagles arent great either but theyve got enough talent on both sides of the ball to win by 20 if they avoid screwups.

So are you sort of limited to eating bland foods

I mentioned hot sauces. The supertaster acquires a whole pathology, things beyond which particular foods set them off.

In town I have to point the antenna different ways for different towers. Wind, helicopters, passing cars all disrupt the signal. Still not sure why broadcast TV has to be digital. Oh that's right it was to sell the frequencies to friends for nothing, like the public land in the west.

I knew Detroit would Detroit, and be Detroit, because they're Detroit. Dallas losing by 20 would be nearly impossible - they have a better chance of winning. 50/50 shot at 14. As you see with Tua, it is unwise to bet against someone's first start - even when they're not Tua.

Gurley's stats are in decline even though teams are letting him score TD's and he wants incentive pay. Not that I'm into fantasy football or anything but he is near the top in touches but not long runs.

Ahaha, yeah you did mention you liked hot sauces, especially the valentina extra hot.
I thought tv went to digital years ago to fit more channels in the spectrum, also they needed some parts of the spectrum for cellular/wifi stuff? But yeah, the lobbying and the fact the people who control the FCC have close ties to the telecommunications industry is just another example of American oligarchy.
Detroit scored first but the colts dominated the rest of the way, adding an int return for a TD to comfortably cover the 3.5pt spread. Eagles also got a fumble return for a TD off dallas, getting an intentional safety off the eagles also helped them cover because wentz was giving them every chance to stay close (4 turnovers). Tua did alright, had an early td pass but was able to coast most of the game since his defense and special teams accounted for 2 tds and set up another easy td at the goal line. I hear Miami is starting tua to see what he can do, they have the texan’s 1st and 2nd round picks next draft so if the texans’ pick ends up top 5 they need to know if tua is their franchise QB or they need to draft another one.
Ur right, gurley’s among the league leaders in td’s mostly because atlanta is giving him a lot of scoring opportunities, but he does have a nose for the end zone and he’s picking up decent yds per carry. Kind of like his last year with the rams, even when the blocking is poor he’s not typically losing yds and in the red zone he finds enough creases to burrow into the end zone. I don’t know, maybe im just comparing him to the bears offense, where Montgomery has to break 2 tackles just to reach the line of scrimmage and has 1 td after half a season.

This is what it feels like to be a bears fan, when you feel good about taking a pretty decent team to overtime only to lose. And plus the saints didn’t even cover. And the only thing that makes bears fans happy is the packers lost as well, I thought being favored by 6 they’d blow the 1-5 vikings out of the water but nope, they couldn’t stop Dalvin cook, couldn’t get their offense going outside of davante adams and lost by 6.
TN also surprisingly lost to the bengals, NE gave BUF a tough game until another cam turnover, KC covered the 20pt spread vs the winless jets (I think the 7 other times the spread was that large the underdog covered) and somehow the chargers snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory against the broncos. I think the chargers are the only team in history to lose 16pt leads in 4 straight games (they won last week vs the jags but still had to come back after leading 16-0 early). Is drew lock an actual good QB, or is it just the chargers being chargers?
