Newb going for a top yield grow 1st time

Not hating Alfie, just trying to give some advice (that's what you're here for, isn't it?) that will help you on your way to becoming a successful grower. ;)

Just look at some of the threads where peeps have spent stupid amounts of money on equipment and end up growing some of the scrawniest fluff weed you'll ever see because they haven't learned the basics!

Sorry, I missed that fact that you have a veg room.

Ten seeds sounds like a sensible number to start with too.

Good luck with your enterprise.

OK all seeds are up!! Had a surprise visit from landlord so am having to change location, luckily its now and not when things are going,

i am going to get the tent now and go for a 2.4 metre by 2.4 metre, could anyone advise if 4 600w lights would be sufficient for this space and a decent enough yield? or could i go 5 lights? I intend to go for 20-25 plants in the tent, its now going to be in loft space with velux window. How do i put up pics without anyone getting my ip address? , i will show how its looking from time to time.....

2.4m x 2.4m = roughly 8'x8', no? 64 sq ft.....

I've run 600 watts in a 4'x2' space. To cover 64 sq ft I'm guessing a person would need more than four 600's and maybe up to 8 of them. At least for flowering in a tent of that size.

for that ammount of light and that ammount of cash you could purchase stuff from several different sites and save a ton more of cash.....and for a newbie seriously you can run into complete failure running hydro without knowing how to grow first hand.....imo i would just order a 600w light and supplies(as most can be used if you upgrade) and see how you go from there...dont want you having a 36 plant 2400w grow go to complete shit because you did not know what you was in for that is a TON of work...good luck...but seriously i woulnd spend that cash for a system search for the cheapest price by shit by the lot like say cheapest place for lights use them cheapest place for the hydro kit u want use them...ect...good luck

yup like everyone else says too much too soon.i bet you wont even be able to fill in those 4 lights yet....so just work with that and see what happens. and for first time you should probably try soil or something easier....hydro is hit or miss for a first timer theres tons of things that can go wrong and you will be stuck in the infirmary forums for a long time....i notice a huge trend lately with newb growers thinking that they can just blow out a bedroom with 10 lights and all of a sudden they would be killing the game. they never mention electrical upgrades, air circulation, etc etc.....they will all be destined for a hard learning lesson just like the rest of us..

i pulled some really nice buds my first hydro harvest but my next two crops had failures...light leaks, hermies, over watering, powder mildew, fungas knats, landlord checks, just to name a few. be ready for a roller coaster ride as soon as you think shits dialed in mary will throw another curve ball to keep you on your toes.

I was thinking about that one, so obviously its not a good idea, better to use a bedroom then i take it

yep . best idea . away from the window . going to be alot of heat from x4 600w if u vent out of a window as well .

thanks cheesy, I will vent to the hallway or through into bathroom or downstairs even, will use the loft as my bedroom

I got buddies with x9 600w going in a room 3.4m by 4m 25 plants , got aircon running when lit, its a good set up but i have to go with the tent and vent to another room and suck in from chimney so should be cool enough,
I got a idea about the electric, x2 cooker wires straight from mains through a 13a fuse each to a board, then run 3 lights off each line. I will just do 2 lights off each but may push for 5 lights,
theres a 3.4m x 2.4m tent thats just a bit to big but that runs on 6 x 600w,
anyway i am a newb, as i have not done a grow for over 10 years,
i done a few back in the day, hydro grows on a water pump table, never failed any of them but i was just doing it for the smoke personal, now i need it a bit bigger an things are so much advanced since then, i lost touch with it all...... till now

thanks to all for you help

some pics

some pics

well seeing as so many helpful people here i thought i would show you my temporary set up,,,
the room i have now started taking down the plyboard as you can see , i have to move on to another place, the propigator is a very good piece of kit, and gypsy nirvana's seeds are shit hot, they all cracked within 48 hours, and look at the root, amazing in 2 days, i will take cutting from the best here and grow around 20-25 or maybe even do 2 tents, will see how i get on with the electrical wiring............ anyway enjoy the pics i am outta this house in a couple of days

good luck on your first grow. It is a lot of fun and work.

check out hempy buckets. they are passive hydro and they are really simple. in my grow diary, I explain the method pretty well and it explains how easy it really is. here is my diary: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=195051 . I use hempy buckets and my light is vertical. I dont think vertical growing or using a reflector makes much of a difference to be honest. I just like vertical because i can keep all the bud sites 10 to 12 inches from the light a lot easier than I can on a reflector.

My advice is to just focus on keeping your plants healthy the first time. hempy buckets are great for that.

at least for someone new, i think this is a great method that will give you good yields if you keep everything at the right distance from the light.

My plants are healthy in my opinion. It is also very cheap.

+1 on the hempy buckets, it will give you some experience with nutrients and plants nutritional needs. And I vote go with 1000w lights. Less equipment, and less money.

My bad, I just read the first post and saw that you were thinking about 2400 watts. For that size tent a 600 is perfect. Good luck

yeah 2.4 x 2.4 is to small for a 1000w even if you have a air cooled hood. it will get way to hot in there.

It is difficult to manage a 1000w in a 5x5 tent. it works good though in a tent that size. even a 4x4, but not a 2.4x2.4.

600w are great too. I would rather have 2 600w tents than a 1000w tent.

You are destined for failure. If you have to ask basic questions about a grow of this size, you don't have the skills it takes to run this grow. You should listen to all the posters in this thread, sounds like a pretty big majority agree with learning to grow first.

Just because you can afford a large grow package kit, this will not guarantee success. There is a lot more to this than just owning the equipment. When you fully understand about diagnosing disease and pests; acquire enough knowledge about water relations and growing, and proper fertilizer usage you will be ready to ask questions. This is learned from experience, not from forums and overpriced grow products and charts and ready to grow kits.

no problem, and i had to delete the album when my idiot partner slipped up big time and almost got us pinched. I deleted the pics just to be safe. Its a damn shame because it was a pretty sweet grow with lots of potential. Only got 1 harvest out of there.

I get the feeling that some of you posters think the OP has a 2.4'x2.4' tent in mind, but he said 2.4 meters x 2.4 meters in a post above.
