New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Has anyone tried pressing buds that are right off the hanging plant (after drying before curing) vs cured buds and compared the results? I plan to do so tonight, but I feel like the buds are more dry before curing, even though they're technically not, but the moisture is instead just in the stem at first and then goes into the leaves.

makes a huge mess with out bags, and then with bags you get a huge mess lol because of the oil and water not mixxing. i even tried pressing super slow to try and evap most of the water, but still gets a mess.

I get that clicking sound sometimes. Most times it happened when we pushed the up button to much or held it on. Heat has a impact on pressure. After its heated we always can get a bit more pressure. If we hit the button to much we will get that clicking. I herd that happens on all these type presses?

I found some pressure paper that will tell me where the high/low points are. Free samples on the way.. Do a search for Pressure indicating film. Cant use these hot but will work.

thats the limit switch starting and stopping the ram hydralics from running, making that clicking sound

Are you talking about fresh bud or bud that's been dried but not cured yet? I was talking about the latter and your description sounds like the former? Def never had good results pressing anything fresh due to it being over 70% RH.

fresh= mess, hanging dry not cured= unstable, cured= stable(unless cbd) dry=darker poop(chloro spill)

So after plenty of testing the 25/53 micron bags give me the best returns.. I have the temp offset figured out. Display set point of 280f= 180f, SP 300=200F, SP 325=225F. I'm happy with the results so far from this press. I have a lot of pressing to do this next week.

Chemex coffee filters work really well for pressing flowers. Even regular coffee filters in my experience. I liked the little bags, except they were only good for one use and it got to be an expense that seemed way too much.

Wrap your material nice and tight.

I feel you. I was going to pop back in and say I don't even really wrap my shit anymore.

I like 220 most of the time, anything higher seems too much. 210 was nice too, maybe 25% less yield but different consistency, kind of waxy right away and somewhat better taste.

What do you think of the buzz from rosin compared to other hashes?

Varies by strain. When I get new material, I do three presses. First at 94C, then 100, then 104. (200F, 212 and 220 roughly).

Weigh, sample and decide. Sometimes the goal is yield, sometimes flavour.

Mostly fooling, Lapides.

I do plan to filter the collected rosin, but not individual presses. Picking out knobs of flower gets old fast. Most of my pressing is for a crowd that doesn't give a fuck, is happy with a more flavourful concentrate than BHO, and want the most bang for their buck (flower).

And like with me in all things, I'll be back in a week to contradict myself.

I noticed it takes a long time for the pres to have a stable temp. If I use 225 then want to use 200 it takes forever to cool down. Running your lower temp runs 1st then go higher works best for me.

I have been doing a lot of testing with the Rosin tea bags. They suck, They waste way to much Rosin.. Been looking for a better alternative.. I use these coffee filters for my Keurig. I can put 2g max in ea. I get these pucks when done. So far no blow outs. far less waste. These filters are wonderful :). The last pic is the 2nd press with all 3 pucks on top of ea other. Will use these from now on ..

I am making a spreadsheet of variables in order to fine tune my extraction process.

I have:

Date
Time
Air Temp
Air RH
1 2 or 3rd press
Kief, bud, or hash
Strain
Bud RH
Bag Mesh
Plate Temp
Pressure
Packet Dimension
Time Interval
Input wt
Output wt
Color
Taste/smell
Consistency
and NOTES

Can anyone add other variables?

Thanks to all who have contributed.

Something that I've been playing with lately is how quickly the initial pressure is applied to the puck.

From my experience, if you press really fast, you get a lower yield and a consistency that auto-budders. I attribute this to the puck expanding quickly, and the oil that then starts to escape, can leave the heated area very quickly, so less terps are burned off.

I find it better to press really slowly. I end up with pucks that have FAR less oil trapped in them when pressing low and slow. I gradually increase the pressure over the period of a minute, from the time when I first start cranking until I stop and reach max pressure (max pressure that I apply, not all 12 tons, that causes the paper to rip).

Has anyone else given much thought to this? You lose the ability to do this with hydraulic presses that I've seen, and I even had one and didn't like this factor.

Here is my run from last night. 10 grams of Chiquita Banana. Lov the marbling that it does as it sets up.

If you whip it you can make it all consistent and it will budder. I find that better than the marbling, since you're getting different things in each part of the marbling I assume. ie: the lighter parts are higher in terps and/or higher moisture content = budder faster
