Just read this entire thread and all I can say is wow! A friend of mine who is just starting out again has 6 26w mixed CFLs on T-adapters plugged into a powerstrip and is vegging out 4 bag seed seedlings. This setup would be just the thing for him!
What a great system LifeLess! I was having a hard time finding a cab for a microgrow and you solved the dilemma.
Two things I am not clear on,
How do you keep the tub containers joined? The lips seem a bit narrow to butt up with each other and I was wondering if you use like c-clamps or something like that. I recall you mentioned rivets somewhere in the post, but I thought those were perm fasteners.
When you take the containers apart it looks like the plants spill out outside the container, so I am wondering if its a bitch to close the cab back up without squishing the plants. Do you just push them inside the top tub as you drop it down to mate the bottom?
jobgoblin the rivits are to hold the boxes together. Line the boxes up and drill a hole the right size for your rivit. remove the top box and put a rivit in the hole nail side up. Squeeze the rivit gun until the rivit swells enough that it feels tight and secure. Do this with both ends. I only do the back 2 corners its all it needs. When both rivits are in put the top box on putting the nail looking parts of the rivits threw the holes in the top box. You could kick it and the top box wont fall off. Its a bit tricky getting the boxes together when the plants are getting towards the end but with practice its pretty easy. The rivits also make it so the top box can be tipped back to check the plants and water if you dont wanna remove the top. GL peace LL
Hey Lifeless I know you said the plants were 12-15 inches tall when you put them into flower so I was wondering about how long you had to veg them for to get that tall?
This is great! Wish i had read this thread before starting my dresser. It kinda has been a pain in the ass making everything work out while maintaining stealth.
satty thnx for stopping in. Glad you enjoyed the thread.
Thundurkel not sure on the exact time because i top a few times. Id say 2-4 weeks. Once they start growing and the roots dig in they really take off. Best way to know when to switch the lights is when the top of the plant reach the lip of the bottom box flipem.
Orga_Nerd thnx . Everything you see here is stuff i picked up from this great community. Peace LL
He's using 42w 2700K CFL's and they put out 2800 lumens each if you are going to join the Dark Side with us fluoro growers you want to make sure that you use 2700K for flowering and 4100K-6500K for vegging come check out my threads in my sig and you should find everything you need to keep a personal stash at all times once you get going the biggest tip I can say is if you get a clone from somebody DON'T FLOWER IT! turn it into a mother and take clones off of it, I was anxious and had to toss mine into 12/12 right when I got them then I saw DrBud's threads and was mad I didn't have a mother plant to take clones from every week
Thanks for the advice thundurkel. One more question does anyone have any advice on a good strain to Grow in the Rubbermaid. I was Planning on Giving sugarbear's micro carbon scrubber a go,but based on the efficiency of that which i do not know Does anyone know what would be a safe "low Odor" Strain i could look into.
Howdy LifeLess, sweet sweet crystalized CFL goodness u got there mate. U have inspired me to join the revolution of CFL's, not with a tub but going the cab option. Once again awesome job.
BBlair365 - You're welcome bro, I would say for a low odor strain maybe Afgooey or Matanuska Thunder Fuck cuz I have a strain which is a cross of those 2 and I don't need a carbon filter and the nugs smell so good when they are dried and cured...
Check out the links in my sig and you can see how frosty it gets too, good luck and Happy Growing
Thundurkel must be tending the thread while im away thnx Thundurkel.
bblair365 your gonna want something branch. As far as low odor your not gonna find anything thats not gonna smell. Best bet is to get yerself a scrubber. Best lowest odor ive done is NL. But they all smell like dead skunk roasting in the summer sun.
b00m thnx and welcome. Just keep the bulbs close to the buds and youll get great results. Post up some pics when ya fire up the box. Peace LL
I will forsure post pictures,i found a 31 cfm Blower from grainger and was wondering what you thought about using this particular one with the Micro Carbon filter.Hers a link let me know what u think i went for a small one Low on weight as i will be devising a plan as far as mounting goes on the upper rubbermaid tub. GRAINGER BLOWER
Lifeless you said that 8-42w got to hot for you? Do you think with maybe a little bigger box and more ventilation that it would work. The only reason i ask is i just started a 12-42w grow in my closet because my 400w hps was just too hot, after seeing this and drbuds i was thinking about building a box instead of using my closet because i just think im wasting a lot of space. I have a 4in inline fan(close to 200 cfm) for exhaust and a smaller one for intake into the closet. If i used a box i would have a lot more light reflection, or do you think my temps will be to much and maybe a should build 2 6bulb tubs or maybe 3 4bulbs tub(would prefer to do as few as possible) Thanks, your system really is amazing.
GreenThumbBumb I would build a box bro or look around your area for a old dresser or entertainment center stand(which is perfect) right now I'm using a dresser with 396w of CFL's in my closet, my shit is ghetto I don't have exhaust but I do have a Holmes window fan that fit perfect across the bottom so thats how my shit is ventilated and I get great results ....
Thundurkel no exhaust? I bet you put in some exhaust and yer buds wont looks so fluffy. Temps gotta be getting pretty high.
GreenThumbBumb if it was me id build 2 boxes. 6 Bulbs each. I like the rubber maids because im a neet freek and there easy to keep clean. They make a 50-55 gallon rubber maid that would prob fit a 6-bulb bathroom vanity fixture nice. That Exhaust you have might cool both boxes. Keep us posted on what you deside.
