My 1st Go w/ Coco Ebb & Flo

Morning,

420 - I definately rec. the 8" pots. My usual shop ended up running out of em so I had to pick up some 6"s as time was a constraint. I have seem them online @ shops but I like to support my local hydro store so UI would just ask em next time your there. IMO the 6" are just to small, even with the mat for root growth/support. The 8"s I think provide more root growth as well as stability ( less likely to tip when budding ). I do have a net that will be coming into play several weeks later but personally I am a fan of the 8's.

247red - Thx bro, I have been using this recirc on mt past hydro/rockwool setups & it seemed to work out pretty well. I flood my tray 2x a day & check my PH almost everday / every other. After 2/3 runs my PH usually rises up to anywhere from 6.4 - 6.6 or so.

Gaiusmarius - I appreciate having one of the OG's keeping an eye on my thread grow, hoping I can please the masses with my final pics as you have!!!

Hey Colafornia Kid - Lookin real good man. One request for you????? I would love to know the documented results of a pruning to one main cola vs. a few side branches vs. no pruning :chin:

Gaiusmarius has been helping me get my clones healthy before I flower and I am going to be flowering 3 4x4 trays with 25 plants each.

I am running B-cuzz coco in one tray Canna coco in another tray and a personal "soiless" mix of coco fibers(the stringy stuff) perlite, and coco dust.

If your down to compare notes I would love to run some pruning tests to see if we can determine what is what on this mostly opinion based variable.

Question: Are you going to let the roots grow into the mat and lock your plants in? If so, I have been thinking about filling a tray with loose coco on top of a mat and letting the roots go wild. I have seen this done in Sunhine #4 to 1.5-1.75 g/watt results so I am only concerned about locking in the plants.

What's your thoughts?

Kind buds come from happy plants and happy plants come from CALIFORNIA! :D

 thanks I'm going to go with some 8" square coco pots I found online :woohoo:

Cali,

I would be more than happy to help ya out, everyone for tha matter - what goes around comes around. I wish I had more exact varibles ( like you setup/idea/test run ). Most of the ones I trimmed are in 6" pots & roughly around the same height though - all gdp's, I do have one in a 4x4 cube as well. What i will do is grab some weekly pics ( of room & selct plants ) as well as update the thread as the grow moves along.

I never thought bout using a rubbermaid or alternate pot for manuv. but thats a great idea, espicially as I have a lil dead room on the side of my tray, or if one area jets bushier than the other, etc. I metioned it before but w/ Coco it feels like I have a lil more room to experiment w/o worrying about total qty being nearly as affected. - another + I'll grab some pics and check back later...

Evening everyone,

Things have been lookin good over here on the homefront. I went from running ( GH grow/micro/bloom ) 3-2-1 tsp pr gallon to 2-2-2 for several days & now at 1-2-3 respectively. I do add Diamond Nector & CalMag as well (1 tsp gallon ). I haven't strayed away from GH in the past as it always seems to be pretty reliable for me & I like that. I like to keep it pretty simple but am intrested in adding n some adtl budding nutes. Can any of the OG' here recomend one or 2 products / point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

The kids have been flipped for a week now & are really bushing out. I am galdd I did a lil touch up last week but at this rate will need some more :dueling:

Caligrown, the 4/5 I tried to really trimmed down may have been to close to when I flipped them, they don't see to be stretching as much as the others, but then again these are also the ones in 6" pots.

Here are some of the most recent pics. over the last couple days.

Coco still moist, not wet but moist - only bottom feedin 2x a day approx 2 "s up

I'm in the progress of making the switch to a coco ebb n flow setup very similar to yours

It's good to know that the table only needs to be flooded 2-3" and the water simply wicks up into the rest of the medium.

Is this massive wicking due to the type of pots you have, or will a similar mesh bottomed container perform the same results and keep the coco moist? Coco seems to be the way to go

Keep up the good work :smoker:

GM - thanks again, just trying to follow in everyones footsteps here - tons of 411 & amazing grows every time I return. Hoping they pan out just as yous did!!!

Aba - Thx as well, I am not 100% sure, this is my 1st go w/ coco but like most I have been very impressed. I am not sure the manufacturer of pots makes a difference as long as they are mesh / rooots can go through them but I could be wrong. I did water by hand for the first 2 weeks of vegging.

*** Quick Note *** I am noticing some of the roots poking out the side of the pots n growing out & down to the matt - I think this was my fault for too much hand watering / flooding the pots. Ideally I think I should have flooded the bottoms every couple days to train the roots to grow downward more. It's not bad but I think it wouldhave been best to have all of the roots growin out the bottom into the matt over some poking out the sides n growing down. In summary, If you water top down by hand & are using matts I think they'd do better with a bottom flooding every so often. I will try to take a couple more pics later tonight & show everyone what Im rambling bout...

It was a good day today, went over to a buddies house to help him with a favor & ended up taking home a new light :woohoo: (unit is only about a year old but..) an extra "1.21 jiggawatts of power" is nothin but good news ;)

Pico - sorry missed your ? bro. During the cloning I use a very diluted solution 1/4 tpg / if any & place the dome on top of a heating pad to stimulate root growth. I am looking into using root additives next time but never have with rockwool or coco.

I typically stick by what the bottle says, an if it aint broke dont fisx it kinda thing. I usually use just a lil less than the bottle recomends in Veg. When I flip to Flower 12/12 I go full strentgh.

VEG:
< 3 tpg Gro
< 2 tpg Micro
< 1 tpg Bloom

First 3/4 days of Flip to 12/12 - Flower
2 tpg Gro
2 tpg Micro
2 tpg Bloom

FLOWER:
1 tpg Gro
2 tpg Micro
3 tpg Bloom

Lookin' good bro...thanks for the feedback on the roots and bottom feeding...very good info....you mentioned the handwatering early on...I'm wondering if the floods in the beginning drew those roots out the side also (in the beginning you were flooding about halfway up the pots I think)....anyways very good work...thanks!

peace

Nice, thanks for letting me know. You did mention you add CalMag+ to that too right?

I was playing around with some of these pots last month. Vegged out some plants with a little hydroton and coco in the 6" coco pots on ebb flow and the plants loved it.

I have been straying away from straight coco for some reason but this is making me think otherwise. I had heard that you didn't want to go full strength with the nutes in coco. Do you ever find yourself needing to flush?

Morning Fellas,

VT - you may very well be right, this is a kinda trial n error being my first run. Myabe if I flooded a lil less high or bottom fead more often they would have been drawn out the bottom more. I will grab some pics tonight.

PICO - I am just your average joe so I haven't really took any forks in the road just yet, trying to stay down the beaten path so to speak. I do see some peope mixing the coco with perilite throughout or hydroton on the bottomw which to me sounds like a good idea... This is my first shot @ coco, I used to be a rockwool guy - E&F / slabs / 4x4 cubes but am never going back. I have been a sponge in these forums trying to take up ideas, suggestions, etc. so I am happy to post what lil I know & hopefully someone can use it.

I did see another thread about a light moved in the other forums. I picked it up for my last batch, it worked decent but the buds weren't super fat / dense. I got a about a P of a 1000W & a 4x8 tray. I did run the light mover during Veg & the first 10 days of flower but after helping a buddy out he donated his other light to the cause. I am really excited to see this pan out but not going to count my eggs before they hatch. I will swoop back in later tonight / tomorrow with some pics & another update. Till nextime....

Another update on my Ebb & Flo go. Things are looking good, actually great. All the plants appear to be really healthy & roughly the same size. There is 3/4 on the outside ( sml pots ) that aren't stretching as much ( 2-3 less ). All n all I am stoked, & couldnt be happier, espicially for this stage in my grow. Stalks are thinck, leaves are green & buds are forming. Coco is the shizzz.

Hey Colaforniakid,

i'm just loving the look of your canopy dude
real nice and healthy, with the right density for a damn fine yield.
real nice sog.
peace

Right on, thanks for the kind words - espicially coming from some "guru's" like you 2. :woohoo:

You get out what you put in I believe. I continue to be impressed with Coco overall & GH for that matter as well - hasn't failed me yet. When I run out of this batch of GH I may switch it up to the Canna nutes for the next ( same strain ) - see if the $$$ is worth the smoke quality/canopy. Off to reading up on some other grows - is it April yet??? :joint:

Lookin good thus far... is there any way you would be able to get a pic without the HPS glow?

Indica - no worries, check the green glo - reminds me of the hulk :woohoo:

Knna - thx for the props, what good are friends if you cant lean on em ya know.

- About the pots, good to know they do work stand alone. My friend told me bout the coco so I just kinda followed his lead & duplicated the setup. I would rather have the freedom to be able to move em around, re arrange, etc. They really seem to be taking a liking to the matts though - roots pouring thourgh. I know one thing I would definatley stagger 3x2x3x2 instead of 3x3x3x3 lol. Maybe nextime Ill do a 4x4 in matts & the other in 8in pots - see what happens. Do you use the cocoweave pots or plastic pots? Are you running straight coco or mixing with anything or anything on the bottom? There seems to be a lot of diff. ways to run coco & most everyones works great. coco is all new to me so I am just learning as I Go/Grow. I cleaned up my plants a bit but thier still bushy & a nice canopy. None of my grower/friends ever really prune for growth or to one cola. Its not that we dont want too, its the one thing none of us have been shown or done. I get nervous when hacking my plants up but either way im not complaining.

- I usually flush my res. when I go from 24 to 12/12 & then a couple times during the grow for good measure - 3 tops. I have buddies that only flush it @ the end of the crop. I dont know if I am gettting better or my plants have a happy medium or what but in rockwool my res. would usually go up every 3/4 days to 6.4/5 or so. With Coco it seems to stay right at 6.0 / 6.1 even after a week. I am adding 5 gal approx every other day w/ the relevante nutes but I'm really liken Coco.
