Since you are Left of Mississippi, I'm just right of it. Lowes sells a Rapitest soil test kit, HD might or garden center, my hydro shop does as well. 4 little test chambers come with it, Chem pH, N,P,K; Little capsules color(abroad; colour) coded filled with powder and a cheap eye dropper comes with it. For NPK test you mix up a cup 1/3 soil, 2/3 water. Mix well, then let the water separte. Use the water for the tests. It is more detailed than that, but you get the jist. I just test the runoff water now. Then you just match the color in the window with the color on the tester. I don't think it's super accurate, but it gives you a good idea how the macros are balanced. Cheap, $15 enough caps for 12 tests I think. I like the EC meter for mixing nutes and overall nute level. Between Growdoc and Caprichoso I think I got that whole hurd crushing supercropping technique figured out. It's like squeezing a freeze pop between your fingers and the ice cruches and moves away from you fingers. That's all I can think of to describe it, doesn't take much pressure till it gives. Stems are more oval than round, the flater side, where it looks like piplines run is the side to pinch, like the freeze pop. I know what you mean about "I just can't do it," I didn't want to either but it did let the others catch up. Makes sense too, by crushing the arteries energy can't flow to the hurd as well until damage is repaired. In the meantime the other tops have time to catch up. When damage is repaired, they really get aggresive afterwords.
I like your pea stone/perlite pest/gnat guard. Grow well

Ghost of John - Thanks my friend :friends: , I'm sure you're right, waiting for the girls to digest the food as I write.

packn - thanks for the tip! - now that you mention it I remember seeing soil test kits some time ago, but haven't looked for them since. My Hanna will do pH temp and ecs, and this kit will make a nice addition to test veg / flowering nutes.

I gave them a foliar feed last night. Waiting a day or so to see if they start greening up. Normally I'd be due for a watering tomorrow, but with the rains here my normal RH of 45-50 is now 55-60 so it's taking a bit longer for them to dry out.

Once I see them greening up a bit, I'll have to hurd some of them
:whip: 1/2 the plants have 1-2 dominant branches already, thanks much for the encouragement packn!!!

MrG looking good buddy. Yes I think to continue feeding grow nutes into the first 10 days or so of flowering is a great idea. Ive never used calmag but I have had great results with just a quarter teaspoon of epsom salts in a gallon of water, which i use every watering. Plants are looking like they are just getting ready to really take off . Good luck and Ill be checking back in ...nice going bud :)

The girls likey the foliar spray  - All but 2 have completely greened up, the other 2 were the fastest growing of the 6 plants ( my guess is during transplant I must have lost a small amount of root ), and they are greening up too, the yellow is retreating just taking a little longer. I'll get some pictures up later today.

sackoweed - thanks for stopping by! Good thinking - time to pH test a soil sample again. Runoff is 6.3 or so last watering so hopefully it's not off too much.

 TC, thanks for stopping by, lovin your grow, good luck to you too!!! :canabis:

Babba - thanks for visiting and for the props and tips! The flip is today, so the next feed starts with the mixed grow/bloom. Hey, just out of curiosity, what pH is the tap water in your neck of the woods? I was amazed to see mine was 8.3, never expected that from watering the outside garden. Hurray for pH down and Superthrive! :canabis:

Pics coming up... -MGJ

 Sleepy - u crack me up man! We gotta get you one o dem chipmunk powered spinning cage generators, doubles as a kif extractor :biglaugh: - your wish is my command, let me run over and get the pics :Bolt:

And here they are!

I'm thinking 2 things - the foliar feed helped a lot - I can see the N and Mg effects in the dark green spreading in the leaves, and dang these plants grow fast!!!!! :biglaugh: Here is a comparison of TW #1 Day 24 and Day 27... when compared like this the changes really stand out!

I hurded a few of the strongest branches - none of them needed support except this one - notice the wire crutch on the leading branch on the right - will flop on the ground without it - ouch - but I'm sure it will stiffen up quickly...

Very happy with how they're growing so far, today they get 15 light and 9 dark, tomorrow 12 / 12. I think in a short while it's not going to be so easy to get the top shots in the cab!

More to come - stay tuned :friends:

HEY, HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!?!?!?

HEY, HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!?!?!?

they usually stiffen up if you stroke `em a little...hehe

very nice, MrGJ!!

Thanks Sleepy

Yes - I remember the time lapse grow, sweet, I'd like to do that eventually.

It's an animated gif. I saved the 2 pics 640x480 in gif format, loaded up a gif animator program, you import the 2 images and it creates one file that flips the two images. Pretty neat stuff!

Hey - don't get me going, I'm having a hard enough time keeping my mits off them as it is :biglaugh:

MrGreenJeans we are very lucky here with our water. It never sees the light of day till it comes out of our faucet. Is stored in a volcanic tube or aquafer... which has been capped off and a pipe run through the cap.... then straight to my house. No chlorine or additives what so ever. PH sits at a constant 6.2 year round :) We are pretty much surrounded by water bottling plants. We feel very very lucky !! Wish I could ship all you guys some of this water :) You know that stuph you guys are paying a buck a bottle for :) well I shower in it heheh . So anyways I think I might have just talked myself into a hydro grow ....hhhmmm maybe I should call 00420 :)

I use to have a gif animator program. Might have to get another. Didn't even think of using it in a forum post...Good show MGJ. The plants are greening up nicely. :canabis:
Sleepy you really are becoming The Borg in that chair...don't even tell me you have a voice to text, text to voice program running on that chair and computer. I guess IC can be your "Collective." :biglaugh: I know about your joints man, all in fun.
If you are doing a poll; my pH near Lake Michigan is 7.8. The chem test originally had me believing it was 7-7.2. The hanna meter says 7.84 everytime.
Time lapse.....hmmmm...yes...excellent...hmmmm

Thanks for the info - that's absolutely fabulous that you are getting water straight from an aquifer, hmmmm - aquifer water, secret of the Shastafarians  You guys do so well in soil, I'm sure you'd grow mega plants in hydro. :canabis:

sleepy - I completely understand about the chair - I have my favorite recliner and have to be careful not to spend days at a time enjoying it  :biglaugh: my achy bones love comfortable chairs...

Thanks very much for the compliments - your suggestions worked great! Maybe alkaline water is more common than I thought - 7.8's not too far from mine. Gives me plenty of leeway for Superthrive though - when I add it pH plummets to 4.5 from low 8s and I have to use some pH up!!!

Until later  :friends:

nice off to 12/12. should be fun to watch them develope.

BTW I bet you end up having to tie up a bunch of branches later on. .

none of them needed support except this one - notice the wire crutch on the leading branch on the right - will flop on the ground without it - ouch - but I'm sure it will stiffen up quickly...

Ok - follow up on Day 3 Flower. Now 12 days since the last watering and the girls aren't thirsty yet. Moisture meter shows 7/10 moist and to double check stuck a finger 2 inches down, yep not dry yet. The 2 biggest girls are getting a bit yellow again 4 days after the last 1/2 strenght foliar feed. Time to check pH of a soil sample, holding at 6.7. Since I figure it's a good 4 days at least before they dry out I decided to give them another 1/2 strenght foliar feed tonight - while I was in there I snapped a pic of the family...

They're growing pretty good, I've done a bunch of hurd pinching, but I will feel a lot better when they are dry enough to water with some nutes. gog - I think I'm gonna have to start tieing up branches sooner rather than later :chin: The tomato boarders are now in the outside garden leaving plenty of room for the girls to stretch out.

The moms haven't had pictures since the beginning of the thread, so I took them out for a quick picture. Here they are at 30 days veg...

Soon they will ready to take some cuts and try my hand at cloning TW.

So far so good, I think.... :biglaugh: More pics in a few days...

Gday Mr G!
Looking good in here :canabis:

Just one thing comes to mind though...imho 12 days and still having wet soil is not condusive to achieving the fastest growth rates as far as i know, you need that soil draining and drying out a bit faster than 12 days, especially if the moisture meter is still at 7/10...that means the soil will be wet with not much chance for the roots to breath for well over 2 weeks....

I think youd have much better growth rates if that soil drained a bit faster mate, but thats just my opinion, thats all...like i said its still looking good in here, cant wait to see them bud up nice and fat for ya! :friends:

Ghost of John - Thank you my friend  - yes, 2 weeks will take us into the middle of flowering - and hopefully interesting developments...

Leeroy - I'm glad you brought this up. I've been gardening forever, although I'm a 0420 newbie - and thought this is strange. The soil I used is a local planting mix made from earthworm castings, sphagnum peat moss, and pumice, and is pretty light stuff. I mixed in 20-25% perlite, could it be the soil would've been ok without the perlite?

There are 2 other factors also: until 2 weeks ago the RH was 40-45% and a watering lasted 1 week. With the rains the RH is 53-65 it is taking longer - also I thought maybe the plant hasn't put much root into the new medium yet and isn't sucking out the moisture. Still, 2 weeks is a very long time not to need a drink.

I guess I'll know soon enough. The last watering was a soak at transplant, I'm going to hand water this next time slowly until I start to see some drainage. Hopefully this will decrease the water load a bit. I'm a bit hesitant to transplant them again, or am I being foolish - should I transplant them into a "drier" mix?

Hmmm - so whaddaya think - next time should I leave out the perlite? Or put something else in - maybe sand?

Still trying to fill the holes in my head - um uh knowledge - this grow is definitely different than what I am used to.

Thanks folks!!!!! :friends:
