Everything looks very healthy and vigorous to me, Shcrews. No matter what your soil reports say or what amendments you still need to add, your soil can't be too bad and still have such nice looking plants growing so early in the season.

By the looks of your mounds and plants and having your irrigation system with a 2500 gallon tank backup, you seem to be on track to have a much better season this year than you did last year and you crushed it last year.

Wasn't it just last year that you had trouble with your well pump producing enough water and you were not able to get your drip system installed until the middle of the season? You look to be in much better shape this year.

Good luck!

no the tests were from before i amended. now you are making me think i shouldnt have added the gypsum? how bad did i fuck up?

No way of knowing for sure. My parents veggie garden has around 80% Ca saturation and low potassium and their tomatoes don't yield as well as they could. It may be the type of situation where your plants might produce 8 lbs in stead of 9 because of the low K. What I do know for sure is that you're lacking some elements and adding them doesn't take a ton of time. If I were in your shoes, I'd retest with logan and work from there. The K meter is what is going to tell you in real time when your plant needs it.

screws....when you bought meters did you get a Potassium Meter? Have you used your brix meter yet...are you comfortable using it?

The basic goal we are shooting for is to get the elements in the plant in the right proportions. So it is not that Ca is more important in the plant than K. It is that Ca is a lot harder to get into the plant than K...so you need to start in the soil with say 7x as much Ca so that your Ca and K are equal in the plant.

So, according to Tainio, you want (in the plant tissue) and for your average plant (cause they are all a little different) N=Ca=K and you want Mg and P to be about 1/5 of those. You want iron and manganese to be about equal, somewhere around 100 ppm each. You want Zn to be half that.

So when we use soil testing we are really trying to determine how much of each element in the soil will give us those numbers in the plant.

So anyways let me know what meters you have and what level of comfort you have using them and we will go from there.
no i only got the sap ph meter and a refractometer. havent used them yet, but i am ready to learn and get started. i can order the K meter if its really worth it, which it seems to be.

the mounds are really interesting. I love the natural look of the little weed grasses that are growing up around them like the clover. Didnt you use to use the huge Smart pots? what made you decide to go this route and will your plants get just as big?

I like the mounds, i was inspired by guys like backyardfarmer and fillthepotmore. The grass growing on them is clover, well actually it's a cover-crop blend from buildasoil that contains mostly clover, as well as some beans and vetch i think.

This is my first year without containers. last year i used 800gal homemade smartpots. I think the mounds will do better, i'm hoping for bigger plants this year.

:thank you:have a good one!

Are you letting the clover grow the whole time? That always confuses me. I just pulled mine and then covered in straw and let compost back into the mounds.
yah im goin to let it grow the whole time. when it gets long i might cut it back, but not sure what to use for that.

Those are some super sick paintings...where was the festival?
i was just thinking yesterday about how fast the past month flew by, even though it didnt seem like it until now.

it was at Mariposa county fairgrounds, pretty trippy. this area has never had anything like that before. super good vibes.

Schrews,
I really enjoy your growing attitude/style and the general vibe here so far. (Page 11 and taking break to water my own garden)

I've used a Clackamas Coot inspired soil mix that I mixed up my self for years now, really love it!

I'm a high Rocky Mountain indoor canna grower. I drool over your plants you've posted on the bodhi thread, and had to come follow your work.
hell yah, stick around! we're all out here trying to crush it. I have some friends growing indoors in the rockies, they love it up there. what's your soil mix like? peace!
Ok it's like almost 1am and I just read close to 1000 posts. Shcrews your garden, land, forest, coast and dog are amazing! Now the Girl. I will have to go back and see your previous grows.

It sounds like there are some very knowledgeable folks in this thread. The basic knowledge of plant nutrients and the levels needed in relation to one another were explained perfectly in post 978? from milkyjoe.

Hope you have a great season!
thanks for stopping by! im glad you are finding some good info, that is the whole point, and sharing love for the plant and each other. and yes MJ always drops the serious knowledge, as well as some of the other guys here, we all know who they are.

...what girl?

yah last year my well basically stopped producing. turned out it was a faulty pump and cracked pipes (very old setup). everything was replaced and now it produces 10gpm. I am feeling much better about this year. lots of hard work and lessons learned in the past , accumulated to make this season the best yet!

ok i'll do that. bein able to only grow 24 plants means at least i can really focus on dialing them in.
A half pound will pay for the K and NO3- meter. Pull the trigger, homie!
:woohoo: i think i will order them today. just have to find my atm card

Ancient OG. this is the first plant we put in the ground, on friday the 13th of May. hasnt gotten very tall yet, very tight node spacing, growth is very dense and the plant looks full of energy:

The other seedlings went into the upper plot a couple weeks later. Also I ran out of cover crop seeds before i planted these... the mounds look really bare but the plants are doing well and taking off already. I ordered more cover crop seeds to plant in the rest of these;
