Hey Shcrews I think i remember you saying you do NOT top any of yours ,, TO me they look so wide they look topped many times ???,, I always top mine 3-4 times & they end up at 11 to 12 ft ,,, Some of mine are wide too but not as wide as yours !!! DO you top them & how many times per plant ?
Did you see the posts in the other thread where Shcrews mentioned that he planted two or three plants in some containers? I think those were some of the really wide looking plants.
Shcrews told the story where a buddy of his told him that once the roots of the plants all grew together, they were considered one plant. But when he got inspected, the inspectors were about to give him a hard time about growing three plants in a single pot, which if that were the interpretation, would have meant that he was over the 24 plant limit. Shcrews kept his cool and told the inspectors that he just planted one plant very deep, so that three stems were coming out of the ground, but deep in the soil, they were all joined together. The inspectors bought the story and were very impressed with Shcrews' growing skills. The force was with Screws. He told the inspectors, these are not the plants you are looking for.
As far as topping plants, I think I read where Shcrews feels that the natural shape of the plant provides the ideal profile for budding sites, since it has evolved over eons. If the sky is the limit, as it is for Shcrews growing outside, I guess it makes sense and he has the photos to back up his theory.
