Here comes the sun. I think I might be on to a good mold resistant strain. It is mostly sativa with some OG. It has been budding for 5 weeks pretty rock tight buds, 2 or 3 more weeks to go and only 2 buds had rot in them the PM very little. I will get some pics when I can.

Well, it's been raining for weeks. I got mold on most all my plants. Bluemoonshine= mold, (NL x Bberry) x Hawaiian=mold, Cataract Kush x chemD=mold... This weather is killin da buds, no good.. I have not seen a week straight of sun since feb 3.. I feel bad for all the bush grows .
The mold itself is from caterpillar damage mostly,or buds that are wet for days on end. I sprayed greencure, but with all this ran , I don't think it did a thing. The buds are yellow on the inside also, from lack of sun for weeks. I NEED A GREENHOUSE..
On another note, Im now curious to find some plants that can handle low light, rainy overcast conditions and still fill out. Who cares if the plant can handle rain if it stays small, and never fills out because of lack of sun. This is the problem I am facing now. I guess I can blame this on el nino, or so I was told.

Kumaoni from rsc, a N.Indian sativa, has unbelievable vigour in low light/rainy conditions, also great mold resistance.

Here is a pic of that plant I was talking about. It has buds at diffrent stages. The oldest is 6 weeks and is almost over done it doesn't have that sweet smell like the younger ones. The buds are a little over 2 in and rock hard Very little PM and only one spot of rot a week ago. This strain is new to me so we will see how it smokes.

I NEED A GREENHOUSE..

No, as you know, you need to grow the right strains for that climate combined with the right growing techniques and timing. for starters that means don't even try to grow anything that comes in a seed packet.....Asian, African, central American and local strains are where it's at for the tropics, everything else will be a heart breaker. I know, as I live in "humidity central"

Start by growing several types of equatorial land race sativa strains (some of these could grow in a lit sauna without molding!), don't tip them so they grow slim and tall (rather than short and wide), grow in raised mounds or plots that have good air flow, maintain good plant health etc. Time your planting (and the plant's flowering duration) so the buds will ripen during months that are usually drier etc etc.

Tell us more about those 3 acres....I don't know anything about big island land prices, but $20K doesn't seem expensive. Is there road access? power? water? are you allowed to build a house on it? (edit : I just did a search and found a land sales site. There seems to be hundreds of lots for sale, "Hawaiian Acres" is one.....it looks good on paper, what does one have to look out for there when buying a bush block with a shack on it?)

You need to see the land and talk to some neighbors cause it rains hard here and water flows in places you didn't know. The last huge rain we had was in 2000 I think we got 38 in in a day and half. November 2nd. And you are right about strains and alot of the ones that did really good here are gone cause they got to big but now with the med thing we can grow big ones. July is dry only about 9 in. The best thing about Puna no need water. Also rain amounts very a lot I get 150 in, 5 miles to the ocean 100 in go up the mountain and it is 180 + or drive 30 miles and you are in the Kau desert no rain. We have every climate in the word almost. We have apple orchards at 6000 ft on the side of Mana Kea a 13,000 ft volcano ok skiing some times in fact it snowed some last night it melts right away. The Big Island has the last afford able land in the state of Hawaii.

Oh not only land race do good here my Trainwreck crosses handles good and Blueberry also. Hawaiian Acres is good it is a big subdivision there are 11 roads each about 5 miles long with a 3 acre lot every 150 ft. Ocean View was the biggest sub in the USA for a long time it goes from sea level to 5,000 ft and dry like hell out there but no jobs and a long ass drive. Come visit. Aloha

This is true, but since I knew that when I bought it, I bought out of the flood plain. My land has wet spots when it rains sure, but I used em to my advantage and my banana's and certain trees and plants love the water :) If you build smart, no worries.
That plant is lookin good DirtBoy, she gonna be ono rolled in a big fatty :)
I will be happy to tell everyone more about this land at a later date. I got work through the weekend as we r building a green house, framing a 10 x 10 and building a dry room. Soon, this weather wont be a problem at :)

I missed spraying that plant when the beatle was hatching growing can be so much fun lol

ARGHHH!! I feel ya pain brah. I hate those damn things. Make a healthy plant into shit..Good luck :)

Are your PNG mold resistant?
Yes , the ones I have are pretty mold resistant. I have not found a keeper female yet. Idk know why, but I have not. Im gonna play around with it one more time here soon, so maybe this time I will find one.

Kumaoni from rsc, a N.Indian sativa, has unbelievable vigour in low light/rainy conditions, also great mold resistance.
What is rsc? Please tell me more about this. Sounds perfect.

WHAT?? Finding a strain, from a seed seed pack is the whole point of this thread. I know suggestions abound about landrace, and I appreciate the sugestions , trust me.
But Im trying to find something that I can purchase.Everyone can tell me about this and that, but where da hell am I gonna get these strains? I mean really , I have to get lucky and get gifted them, or else I gotta purchase seeds packs.

Which leads me to this post,
Asian, African, central American and local strains
How am I gonna get this stuff? seed packs is my answer. I know a couple people that I discuss growing with here. I don't know anyone that has these strains personally beside people here. So I gotta get some seed packs, or I gotta meet new people or someone has to offer me something. I cant just sit around waiting for it to be my lucky day. Im trying out all the seeds that I have from yrs in California and the seeds I acquired here in Hawaii. I will try anything at this point on the quest for mold proof genetics.

okay, after lurking/reading the entire thread I will now post a few thoughts. First off I commend all of you in your endless effort to find a mold resistant strain. I myself have tried countless mold resistant strains, only to find mold jumping off the charts. Yet, at times under perfect circumstances we can grow mold resistant pakalolo, even in Puna. But it's not gonna happen to often, but if one does his due diligence good things can happen.

I do admire your ability to start all these different strains at once. When I do that shit I get a very extreme head pounder, throbbing away!!!

Even the recent rains leveled my garden too. I lost two beautiful 'Lemonwrecks' to mold, two Mendo Queens X Grape Stomper OG, and two WhiteFire X Sour Diesels too!
But of my two Colombian Gold X ChemD, only one had to be partially taken down. The other one is growing with the wonderful OG scent to her. Have a look at a bud or two from her.

I also recently started some other Landrace/hybrids too:

Cindy La Pew X Colombian Black

I have long enjoyed the theory too that wonderful Hawaiian Sativas like 'Elephant' ,are no longer around because they were easy targets back in the day for Greenharvest. Like I'm sure so many other Sativas went that route too.

HAPPY HOLIDAY EVERYONE
Lookin good HawaiianBud :) Like you said, most plants don't make it in this enviroment. I just lost a 7ft'er.. I went to upgrade the pot and the stalk came right out of the soil . It was rotting around the stem.. It was an old regrow, and being outside for months and months already was too much for her to handle. Thats 3 monster plants Out of 5 I have lost this yr. I have 2 left.
A Nevilles Maddness and a Local Hawaiian Sativa. Both are 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide. Its a sight to see :0 I will take some pics after the holiday.

Jojo, if you don't mind me asking. Why are you selling your property here on Big Island? Are you becoming tired of waiting for our local politicians to do the right thing with regards to medical cannabis? If I move from here that would be the major factor!

Back to your land. Is there a structure on the property, and what are you asking $$$wise?

Go to seedboutique.com and search through the hundreds of offerings to find strains that are all or mostly equatorial sativas.....there were Thai, Cambodian, Colombian and some African strains offered last time I looked, but that was a while ago. You might try some Hazes, but these can mold if there's even a hint of Skunk in them. I'd suggest Thai (or other landrace sativas from that region)

Absolutely. Having spent the last 6 yrs in California, this place is ass backwards.
I'm thinking of selling because I am. No real reason, just testing the waters, I'm gauging how much interest is there and how I feel about letting go of it permanently .

I just had a discussion with a friend, topic was someone we know got greenharvested for having too many plants. They came and took his overs and said to tell all his friends "seven, seven is the number. If we see 7 we keep flying , anything else we r coming to talk to you. "
That's a quote from the Big I green harvest cops supposedly. I guess that number 7 stems from the medical laws we have here. I have 2 monsters in full sun, and have had no issues through multiple times being flown over. I hope this 7 is the new "law" around here.
At this time and place on the Big I , I feel hesitant to have 2 big plants outside , in full sun. I would rather them be in the green house so GH cant see anything. Even though its a medical state, the marijuana eradication teams can blow your cover, and worse ruin your season. I feel its better to not let them see anything.

Hope everyone is staying dry. We are dealing with weeks on end of humidity over 80%. Its been in the high 90's for the last 4 days. To top it off, we have not had a week straight of sunny dry weather since last year... Most we have seen is 3 days of sun, then back to rain and grey skies and 90+ percent humidity, the sun pops out, but never for any length of time.... Powdery Mildew and Mold is taking its toll.. I feel sorry for all the bush grows and the outside guys, man, they must be bummin' hard.
One good thing about all this rain, it forced me to think outside the box. Us growers don't take no for an answer. We do what we have to do to make the crop work.
In my searching for better equipment , I found a product that so far seems to be just what us growers that deal with a lot of rain is looking for. The product is/are custom made smart pots basically, but with a couple twists for the jungle and the rain. First off they are made with heavy duty woven tarp like material. Wont rot, wont rip and wont get hot. The materiel is army green colored. The pots come with heavy duty straps, 4 to a pot. These are meant for lifting giant landscaping trees, in the pots with a forklift, back hoe or tractor. They have drainage holes in patterns and the best part. THEY HAVE BUILT IN COVERS. Yup, a cover. Its a sewn in cover that has a drawstring that draws in around the stem and covers the pot from getting washed out in all the rain. It aslo protects the top feeder f roots from the sun, and I'm finding I do not water as much, the soil is always moist, and those feeders at the top of the soil are white and fuzzy and exploding out of the soil.. These are the coolest pots I have ever used. I have 8 ft x 7 ft plants in 50 gallon pots, and the soil is never dry. First time that has happened , and it's all because of the color, and the covering. I wish I had put the plants in the 100 gallon pots I bought, but the 50's are kickin arse and taking names so far.
Best part is, I paid 10 bucks for the 50's and $15 for the 100's. BRAND NEW..Totally worth it.
The 50 gallon pots are 32" wide and 20" tall. The 100's are 38"wide and 22'' tall. Perfect sizing for our favorite plants :)

Here is a pic of the woven grow bags. Second pic is how you can pick these up and move them around the farm or nursery. third pic is the Handles, and how nicely sewn these are.

Yeah Dirtboy, It's WET. I had a plant that rotted at the stem, 7 ft easy. I went to transplant and the stem come outa da bucket, all the roots had rotted in the soil. So I went and broke the plant up and threw it in the bushes I was so mad. Anyway, went to go throw another one in the same spot, and da plant from before was still alive. The damn thing has roots popping off all the major branches and the heads are turned up to the sun. I think I'm gonna go stick the branches in a pot of soil, see if they like that. Its so damn humid the plant refused to die.
I got these pots at a local nursery. I will pm you da details. :)

jojo what kine genetics you tried in da bush, guerilla growing, do the sativas grow too big if planted in da red dirt? I heard they get too big, I got 5 Golden tigers going now by ACE seeds and they are strong vigorous sativas that shouldnt get too big.

U ever tried 100% sativa long flowering here guerilla?
