Nobody pleases everyone. It's difficult if not impossible, to do so.

It seems to me that the good of the many thankful readers of your posts far outweighs the good of the two aforementioned displeasured. I'm 100% positive that your generous dispersion of valid information has saved lives as it raised
the bell curve for the industry.

Thank you.

Hee, hee, hee, no question that I've saved lives, starting as a life guard in my late teens, a couple of well placed Heimlichs along the way, and a number since retirement passing out free concentrates, even if me enlightening brothers and sisters saved none, but doing good things and pleasing people are not necessarily synonymous.

Pleasing one person, sometimes pisses another person off. For instance, among other issues, both of the above sister women are convinced cannabis is the work of the devil and I am a corrupting influence on ya'll and future unborn children.

Professionally there was also always one camp that believed I was a gift and another that continuously plotted to overthrow me as a curse.

If I learned nothing else reaching my dotage, I learned to live my life so that it doesn't matter what anyone says about me, even if it isn't true.

I do however have to please myself, with what I do that is actually true, and it is a gift to be able to do so in the years I've got left in retirement.

just about to be putting the mkiv to work. Just wanted some insight and what to expect from using what I consider sub par equipment but unfortunately am stretched to the limits on funds at this exact moment. so we will use dry ice to pre chill the distilled solvent in a 50# hvac tank. how long do you chill your solvent before injecting? assuming around 30 min?

going to bottom flood twice before flushing from the top using the bi flow on a 3x36 column into a 10x12 collection pot (also have a 4x48 column but is this too big when running one tr21 and a 10x12 collection?). Getting a platter as well which should add an inch or so to the bottom is this even significant?

All lines except the recovery are 1/4 in ss braided the recovery is 3/8. Still dont understand why 3/8 couldn't have been used all around but currently stuck until we upgrade lines and fittings. question here is how significant are recovery times and flood times etc between 1/4 and 3/8?

currently have One tr21 with an mt69 no column heat other than heat gun or blankets. Silicone mats and ic69 soon to be acquired.

will this set up leave me with a process that takes way too long? just trying to be as efficient as possible.

Seriously significant if you are chilling your butane to -30C, or so. It thickens considerably and any water slush in the system will plug it.

Won't take a lifetime, but I would ditch the Mt-69 for an IC-69 at first opportunity and up size the hoses.

Valve Lubes

Valve Lubes

Many valves are manufactured with lubricants. These often include silicone based lubes.

Should new valves be torn down and cleaned before running? This is a service you can pay for from companies like Swagelok.

Just throwing out a topic to talk about.

Thank you grey wolf! Will upgrading just the hoses to 3/8 with 1/4 adapters and keep 1/4 fittings/valves help out with the flow for now?

Also Is the 4x48 column pushing the limits for the 10x12?

A 4x36 pushes a 12x12 for me, I do single pass as opposed to multiple floods and use aprx 18lbs per run.

I hate how companies over size the material column just to say its a 5lb unit......has ruined many a pump I'm sure.

4 X 48" is over the limit for me.

A 4 x 24" is a hot rod and 4 X 36 is pushing your luck on a 10" X 12"

IMO, absolutely. Its something a lot of people overlook I think.

I have mostly 1000 wog 2 piece ball valves going into my system and took them all apart, soaked them in dawn and scrubbed with iso. I actually ordered a couple different kinds of valves one of them being "sanitary" (which really just means it has a tri clamp connection) and they were the worse, thick yellow stinking oil inside. I did some research and talked to the manufacture and they assured me it was ok to clean them out and run them dry without lube, just that one day they might need replacing.

It's called "601 fluid" http://www.rsclare.com/ball-valve-lubrication

And yeah swagelok has no lube valves and "sc-11" cleaned, they're like $80 each. For me, cleaning my own valves and keeping and eye on their function is best bet.

Click........-that was my brain

How did I not see this thread sooner. Badass GW on the designs now that I feel like I'm seeing them for the first time again! What else have I missed.....

Old "new" hoses?

Old "new" hoses?

GW and others do you have any thoughts about using old "new" hoses.

I am talking about smooth bore PTFE hose assemblies made 15 to 20 years ago that are still in the sealed package. These were never installed or used. High quality brand.

Any issues you could think of from this? PTFE is very stable but could the thin wall of PTFE age to prevent current use of the hose.

Any thoughts on old ball valves as well?

Thank you!!!!

If storage conditions were reasonable, hoses should still be good.

If they were valves, I would imagine the seats would have cold flowed and might need adjusting or replacement.

does anyone know the torque requirements on HP clamps viton and ptfe? the instructions we have read were 44(viton) and 50 lbs(ptfe) of ft torque.
