I have a question about dewaxing columns im looking to upgrade from my small 90grm closed loop i got years ago to a mkIII with a the 450grm column and was wondering what the difference in finished product is? what does the dewaxing proses do? i tried to look through threads and not really sure what to think.

450 grams is too big a column for a Mk III. 225 grams is about the maximum practical limit.

The Mk III doesn't have inline dewaxing, but will extract at subzero temperatures, to avoid wax pickup.

Curious, why 225 grams GW? What do you think about "upgrade kits" like on terpp that go all the way up to 1000 grams with a 3x36 column?

happy turkey day ;-)

I believe GW is refering to a standard Mk III, with a 6x6" collection pot. The upgrades that Terp offers include a 6x12" collection chamber.

So what should i get as a base kit to handle the 450grm column? the link below to the site i plan to get it from. I wanted the MKIII because it came in a build it yourself kit sized up to 450grm posibly with a dewaxing column if i found it worth it but i winterize regardless (I dont like HC's in my products). http://terppextractors.com/collections/extractors/products/mk-iii-terpenator-kit .

Might I suggest a 10" X 12" or 12" X 12" base for a one pound column. It will work with a tall skinny base, but is faster with the larger surface area boiling.

i know its a long shot but maybe im missing it somewhere.

I imagine they are hard to make as you would be welding 2 ferrules together with little or no material in between them which is going to be prone to warpage.

Not sure what you are trying to do exactly, but I saw precision extracts has some "collection bowls" that look about 3" tall, but they aren't open on both ends.

ya i agree with both of u and its kinda what i figured. just figured i would see if they did exist to avoid the higher price and lead time of getting a collection dish.

precision and few other people offer them but dont have prices listed. im willing to spend on one just figured i would investigate this route first.

So if i buy the mk3 off the terp site its good to 220g and then also buy the upgrade kit to
450g i get the ability to run 1/2lb to 1lb for under $1,500 bucks right? Also is it only able to
Run active with a recovery pump or can it run passive in a pinch?

One more question
These systems run as a flood and not as a wash correct?

Sorry folks newbie here but learning as i go...

The ancillary parts like pumps, hoses, tanks and solvent are easily going to double or triple that $1500, I would get that figure out of your head right now or you are going to be crying in the long run.

If you are running larger amounts, the bigger column upgrade is fine but I would recommend getting a bigger collection pot like Roji just posted or just start with an MK4. The 6x12" pots that Terpp has on the bigger systems take longer to recover.

Yah i understand the costs flatslabs and what it takes. I plan on assembling mine to save cost, i run a timi now but its small and
Passive and slow but works!

What was nice about the mk3 package was im buying a unit that will run 1/2lb but if i want i could run up to 1lb with the 450g upgrade...
And that comes with the 6x12 collection pot.

But back to my original question can you run these passive in a pinch?
I know there made for active recovery but im just wondering if its a option?
