Yeah i know that, thanks.

You know, i'm always looking at my plants with magnifying glasses anyway. 🕵️‍♂️ Plants are toys for me.

Don't know if i should pollinate them with the Malawi Sun Male... My plan was pollinating 1 or 2 of the Unknowns respectively some branches.
Good, hopefully the post will be useful to someone who doesn't know then:tiphat: As for the pollinating, if plants are toys for you, then I think you should play with them! :D

Mangu Karot aka Zamal, I have these genetics myself and can only warmly recommend them to you for breeding or cultivation. Hermaphroditism can also be a stress reaction, some sativa landraces tend to do this when something does not suit them. It is very rare that genetics contain hermaphroditism as a trait.

Mine are not the mango/carrote, they are the fil rouge. Zamal just means weed in Reunion island and there are several "kalité" (quality) of zamal. Kalité poivre, kalité une taffe, kalité tizane... All different strains. La Réunion has so much to offer in terms of weed that it makes want to move there 😂

I disagree with the stress part. All cannabis is hermaphroditic in nature. It is a monoic plant which means both sexes exist in the same infividual, but in commercial strains the trait has been worked out by breeders for convenience. Sativas are a lot more prone to show both sexes, especially the landraces where it's impossible to cull only the hermis in big plant fields, so the next generation will still carry those traits.

I only got around 20 seeds from 1 plant from the zamal x Jamaica cross and I will indeed save them, you never know :)

Edit - I might be wrong about the monoecious part, according to Wikipedia most cannabis is dioecious which means I may have to check my facts 😂

Some varieties are genetically predisposed to this, but in other cases it is purely a behavioral response to the plant's environment. With this in mind, there are two distinct types of hermaphroditic plants.

As mentioned earlier, there are genetic and environmental causes of hermaphroditism in cannabis. For those genetically so inclined, it is simply that. Some strains just have a greater chance of becoming true hermaphrodites. It is unclear if there is anything that can be done to influence this in any particular marijuana plant.

However, for most strains, it means that you should keep the plants as happy as possible to avoid bisexual flowers. The more stress they are exposed to, the more likely they are to become hermaphroditic.

Some of the major stressors are:

Interruption of the light-dark period in the flowering phase (for example, light leaks).
Too hot or cold
Too little water
Pest infestation
Physical stress, such as exercise during the flowering period
Incorrect fertilization
pH imbalance

So I always thought it, also because experienced breeders claim so?

So far I have had good luck with hermaphrodites, but I try to get as close to their preferred environmental parameters as possible.

Many therefore think I am crazy and smile at it.

Haha no not crazy at all. You can make most plants go hermi if you stress them enough I agree with that. It is definitely a combination of genetics and environment because the predisposition must be there for the environment to trigger it.

It also seems to me the more you lean towards the tropical sativas, the more it becomes a genetic thing.
