Morning all
I converted over to organics/TLO growing style a number of years ago. There is definately a learning curve involved and it takes a different mindset. After about 2 or 3 grows though you should have it dialed in for your strain. The end product though is so much better in quality and taste. I did not think I could tell the difference between organic grown and sythetics, but it is like night and day. Actually it is much easier than other ways I've grown in the past (ie hydro, sythetic ferts etc...). Pretty much a water only type of grows for most of the cycle, with only a couple of tea feedings during flowering.
Genetic drift
SG u said you started breeding Halo, due to genetic drift gone to far. Do you mind elaboting on this?
One of my strands just flat out stopped producing crystals and I'm trying to get it too seed it's self, and then hope I can get back to its capabilities. I was fortunate enough to have my original source go back to theirs and bring me a couple cuts. So it's more of an experiment, hoping to learn.
I did just attempt to use a little pollen from Overlord with a couple small buds on the JackFlash.
PEACe
Sea- now i can smell both my halos n they smell like fresh pine.. what week/day is ur halo on?mine is on day 39...my white widow tho smells like coffee n is creatin a thick dense main cola.
I have 4 goin.... 2 are starting to yellow, but not quite enough amber for me under the 60x.... might be spent soil... time to reamend the next is a month younger.... than a month younger is the one that went into flower last month.... so my 2 that are close have been in flower... ?80-90? days.... I dont time things.... I was going by pistols... now I've got a 60x pocket microscope to check the amber.... probably woulda cut the 2 by now before.... now I'm waitin for 80% amber...
generally in my experience they'll all amber after harvest, but I've found that clear trichs = more uplifting stone... more milky/frosted glass (better description) = more couchlock.... more straight dark amber and thc is begining to degrade to cbn.... I like a mix of amber and frosted glass.... no clear left. course.... different strains are different and I'm still doin trial and error all the time
the most cloudy/frosted glass the better..... I just am pushing em past clear.... as I said... I was going by pistols... now I've got the 60x.... I can really see whats going on.... want to get a 60-200x with a 3' screen I was lookin at, but cant justify the cost right now. I have a feeling that in the past perhaps I've been harvesting some strains too early.
Genetic drift, genetic memory, de-stabilized are a few of the terms used to indicate that a cutting line has went astray.
In my case, I had my only halo's outdoors with no back up cuttings.
The outdoor Halos began preflowering from an unusually cold and cloudy spring.
By the time I took cuts, it was too late.
Since then, Halo wants to flower.
I tried to revert her with 24 hrs light, after that, she wants to flower even more.
Others claim that potency and vigor are lost from drift, but in my case, just can't get a good veg from her anymore.
Luckily, breeding is not an issue for Halo.
Still using the original cut for seeds, but her original vigor is extinct.
So it's fair to say you would agree, if you took a cut from a stressed pLant that could cause issues down the line, as I think this is what I believe happened. Some have been very disagreeable when I say this, they say its my environment, but I cannot believe this because I have other strains that are still rocking it.
Stress has a broad definition, not every stress causes problems.
Very few strains are effected generally, but it does happen.
The links I've seen are related to quick flowering outdoor strains.
Halo in particular is very photo sensitive and quick outdoors.
So it depends on the strain, and the stress type, but it does exist.
