That looks gross, but I'd try it. It's interesting that they've found a different way to get food from cows without killing them.

Yeah it is, blood also contains about the same nutrient concentration of meat. Those vampires are onto something!

Around here they make saucages with pork blood. I dunno what happens with the cow blood when slaughtered.

I have read that if you don't have much lactase, if you just eat dairy regularly and put up with getting sick that eventually you'll start producing more in order to adapt. I'm not really interested in finding out. Lol.

I forgot I wanted to comment on the organic meat thing... organic meat is expensive! Which has made me take up an interest in hunting. I haven't actually gone on a hunt yet because 1. I'm busy, and 2. I would be dangerous on my own for the first time so I want to go out with someone with experience a few times first. Around here there's deer, rabbit, turkey, pheasant, duck... and I've pulled salmon out of Lake Michigan before. Blood and guts don't really bother me much anymore.

Louis Pasteur.....He was really trying to help out at the time....

I am a pro raw foodist, if we were talking raw milk I would change my stance considerably. It still doesnt change the fact that we are not baby cows imo...milk is mucus forming imo, which leads to health issues. Yogurt and kefir are good options for dairy. Milk not so much me thinks.

The fact of the matter is, you cant really buy raw milk anywhere these days, im talking about the milk thats in the Stores like Krogers, Alberstons, Safeway etc. Raw milk is unfortunately a fraction of a sliver of the milk consumed in the US. So a fraction of a sliver of milk might be very beneficial with its enzymes still intact but its only a fraction of a sliver and not readily available to the general public.

The dairy and beef industry are not sustainable, especially with the way water is these days.

Plants based sources of calcium are better for your bones than milk is. Can we all agree on that?

My gf drinks local raw goats milk and loves it.

The raw milk I use is from claravale farms here in California. They do carry them in a lot of small stores. And they only have Jersey cows which are dairy cows, and I use it sparingly. I haven't drank a glass of milk since the 80's! But for cooking, there's not much of a match for some recipes unless your a raw chef which I am not. Of course the Big Market's don't carry raw milk. If more people who chose to use milk used milk fro farm's like this one, there are two at least maybe three here in california, then the bigger agribiz would have to take notice who knows. As a matter of fact, since I don't often drink milk, I noticed a exponential increase in the use by date...lol. It's more like the boxed milk you may find in asian countries or mexico just refrigerated.
As far as osteoporosis and milk etc. I must defer back to the RAW TRUTH about MILK. phosphatase is essential for calcium ABSORPTION, it is also one test they use where the destruction of which is the test for complete pasteurization!!We can not have it both ways obviously. Good discussion.:tiphat: One edit...even the word mammal means the suckling animal.Mammals the only animals that rely on their mother's milk post fetus. It CAn be an amazing food...careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

When I was 1-4 years old I was fed a lot of raw goat's milk. From 5-12 years old I drank a lot of cow milk. I've never broke a bone in my life.
Not so sure that older people need to drink a lot of milk. I know the best source of vitamin D is the sun. It is easier for your body to use than the types from food.
I have a disease that affects my kidneys. I didn't know that it is your kidneys that regulate calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus. As my kidneys have gotten worse I have to take phosphate binders while taking in more calcium and Vitamin D. Otherwise I could get phosphate poisoning plus my bones could get weak as my body strips them of calcium. So dairy products are a double edged sword for me. I try to get my calcium from other sources although I can't imagine quitting cheese.

Yeah it is... Makes a lot of sense though, biological feed, more space required, smaller yields etc.

In the Netherlands they have some interesting things going on, they have some parks where nature can do its thing. Cows and horses graze there in an all natural environment. For population control they kill some of the animals and sell the meat. The price is about twice that of mass produced meat. But where I live organic doesn't have to mean natural, animals are still fed starch based products to build muscle. In nature cows don't eat grains, only grass!

I'd love to hunt wild animals!

Well, cows are grazers so they do eat a lot of grass but also whatever other plants they find. The beauty of letting a cow wander all around, it can eat all sorts of good stuff. They are actually clever, know what is good for them, find and eat it. And it influences the milk and cheese, makes it all taste different.
So sad how we've been conditioned to expect all our meat and dairy to taste the same. Sometimes they get into something that makes their milk terrible, but variety is the spice of life.
Cream cheese is the best choice for low phosphate dairy. Followed by neufchatel cheese, than parmesan, cottage, and feta cheeses. All good choices for people with kidney disease.

pork gives you a boner. that's what this Jamaican dude I worked with told me. never really tested it out though, I don't really like pork.

Milk is good up until you're 18 I think

Ok so I learned a lot in this thread. I drank a ton of milk as a kid and also had asthma. My asthma went away when I started smoking weed, Dr said that weed is good for asthma. This is also the time I quit drinking milk. So I wonder if the milk really had something to do with asthma?

Ok now for the weird part. I drink milk now it does not sit well at all. I avoid it. But maybe once twice a month, and this happened last night as a matter of fact, I wake up standing in front of the fridge chugging milk. Sometimes a quarter gallon before I "come to" so to speak. The wife says I must need calcium. Idk because there is Gatorade and spring water right next to the milk so dunno if its thirst or what. I have never woken up slugging beer unfortunately. So idk wtf is wrong with me, but I did meet someone who told me they do the same thing. Any ideas?

Slightly off topic but do you all take vitamins?

Interesting that you had a similar experience as me lester.

I eat lots of greens, instead of vitamins. I have been drinking a 1/2 gallon of green juice a day lately. Celery Kale and cilantro. I have a buyers account with the local organic foods distributor, so I buy OG fruits and veggies for the same price that the stores do. Saves me hundreds of dollars as its usually 40-50% cheaper.

If I do take vitamins, I take "vitamin code" by garden of life. All plant based, and all bioavailable. I also have used their "raw meal" before, no whey or soy protien. rice only I think. I dont usually use the chocolate flavor.

Eating raw is cleansing, but after the cleanse part you feel like a million bucks and have perfect bms. The toilet paper is clean on the first wipe. I always do a second wipe just to check...the challenge is its a lifestyle change, and you cant eat out anywhere. Next time I go down that route I will be eating some cooked stuff like rice and sprouted beans. I have met some folks who eat raw meat also. Fish I can do. Not sure about other meats for me.

Randleigh Farms did a series of studies (back in 1940s) comparing the effects of "raw milk" and "pasteurized milk" diets on rats. That research (though not definitive) exhibits what happens when the goodness in milk is removed via pasteurization.

In fact, advocates of Raw Milk have amassed a goodly amount of research/documentation/studies on the benefits of milk--and I would start their for my "research".

BTW...Louis Pasteur stumbled on the concept of "pasteurization" while researching what caused "good beer" to "sour". He discovered that briefly heating "beer" killed all the "bad bacteria"--thus preventing this "living liquid" from spoiling. He then applied this discovery to our "other foods" ("beer" was considered to be a source of nutrition back in "the day").

And...the primary reason why Milk is pasteurized today is to extend the shelf life from days to months--not for any real health reasons; purely biz since modern technology of today is capable of keeping bacteria in check while collecting milk and packaging it.
